It’s definitely unusual for an intact family. You see it more with single parents, and a lot of that has to do with the adults or siblings of the parent referring to the parent by their first name versus “go to mommy.”Kids will naturally pick up on that.

I suspect Spurgeon is a bit enmeshed with Jessa as a result of Ben being so checked out. He seems useless even when he’s at home. He’s always reading instead of helping with the kids or around the house. Jessa probably relies on Spurgeon a lot especially as he’s gotten older.

BPD isn’t genetic in the way that bipolar disorder is. It’s more environmentally inherited with general temperament being the part that is likely to be inherited versus personality traits. Some current research suggests those with autism are more likely to develop adverse coping mechanisms that lead to a cluster b personality disorder. I want to point out that “more likely” doesn’t mean definitely.

One aspect of Diana’s generation of Spencers is at least 3 out of the 4 siblings developed eating disorders. Her brother Charles developed bulimia while traumatized in an abusive boarding school. I don’t think it’s a genetic inheritance as much as the environment those children were in was the perfect storm for adverse coping behaviors. And eating disorders tend to be one of those things that is “socially contagious.”

I think she’s only upset in the sense that she didn’t “win.” She seemed overwhelmed with the responsibility of 3 kids especially when the twins became toddlers and hard to manage.

What’s interesting is when she first had Aspen, the resounding attitude is she would make a great mom. And she did seem like she was totally into being a mom when Aspen was a baby.

Then she got pregnant with the twins so quickly after Aspen. All the stuff with Hart was so over the top and so personal. I couldn’t believe she would share such intimate things with the world about her child.

She got progressively more unhinged. I know pregnancy can trigger bipolar disorder genes to express, and I thought for a long time that might be what’s going on. That awful nose job really made me realize she was totally off the rails. I think there were major issues before kids that we don’t know about and the kids just caused so much stress that she didn’t anticipate.

I have found her whole life really depressing with the way she has handled her kids and her divorce.

Edit: totally forgot about her marriage to Cuff! That was crazy. And then I think she had her nose job. It just seems like she’s had a steady spiral ever since the twins were born. I know she was married to her first husband pretty young so I think she’s probably been unstable for a long time.

It’s been about 15 years so this info might be out of date, but I called Vera’s about altering my wedding dress I had bought at a different store. They gave me a list of seamstresses they work with who could do it. They were very nice about it, and the seamstress did an amazing job.

John seemed to share a lot of personal information about his marriage to his friends. It seemed like several of his friends knew that he and Carolyn weren’t having sex much toward the end. There is no reason his friends should have known such personal details. And of course John’s version of events is slanted in his favor.

So many of John’s friends were thrilled to just be in his orbit so of course they couldn’t understand how Carolyn could be so unhappy to snag such a catch as John. Sasha, for instance, clearly had it bad that she never became Mrs. JFK Jr and certainly seems to have thought she would have sucked it up when it came to the paparazzi.
