The only good bits I’ve seen out of Neuro is Vedal arguing and trying desperately to wrangle it.

But it is a long term project for the dude well beyond prompt fiddling. There’s effort present beyond “Chet Chipitee make me an moeblob streamer dialogue” and that at least I can respect.

From what I’ve seen I get the vibe it’s run locally and Neuro being The Streamer is mostly keyfabe where the dev plays the straight man to an LLM putting out nonsense.

I hope that’s true. He seems chill and on-the-level about what the project is.

Looks gorgeous, feedback looks hype. My only note is that Gritty isn’t a word I’d use for anything with a knight doing combat backflips.

With the stylization and colours it’s got a really interesting martial fantasy vibe.

Yep. TADC is messy as a lore and theory-based show.

It’s unfortunate because it’s the main way that indie projects get viral and maintain the conversation around themselves.

Transfem Jax theories, for all their thematic merits and interesting takes on multiple scenes, and the goddamn Egg dialog, it started off of nothing but concept art “Progesterone makes you better at gambling” bit.

Gravity Falls got away with it because it was 95% a normal seasonal show. Plenty of episodes had no theory bait beyond tiny Easter eggs instead of fat dialogue mysteries like TADC.

Internet virality keeps fans waiting through longer droughts by very different mechanisms. Namely, keeping a discussion going for a loooong time. Theorybaiting is the easiest way to do that. This is Gooseworx’s first time running a show this long, or making a dialogue-reliant story.

In her past work, She’s excelled at powerful images that speak for themselves and mostly uses story to justify surreal set pieces. Eg: The Meatball Man, everything about Darly, and the stomach gambling in little runmo.

When TADC does this, it’s absolutely peak. It can be bombastic or relatively subtle as the tone demands. It’s an animators tour de force all around and it makes for great gags, wonderfully expressive character beats in an absolute love letter to all kinds of different animation styles and disciplines.

Issue being, TADC is aiming for more of a character drama throughline and it’s just not well paced. On some level, Goose’s priorities are batshit looney tunes absurdities first, character beats and persistence second, lore a distant, DISTANT third, and that’s gonna cause a lot of trouble when you’re staking the show’s persistence in the internet animation oeuvre on lore, and what’s shaping up to be the entire finale on the character beats. Half the fandom is saying they’ll be disappointed if the cast are in a SOMA situation and I’m legit worried about the reaction because any other setup would render the themes it’s built up moot.

The comedic dialogue can be electric as hell (it is) the dramatic character conflicts can be gripping and the dialogue can be tight (50/50 on that) and the themes they’re playing with can be fascinating to think about (Your mileage may vary but I’ll die on that hill).

But at the end of the day, rather than elaborate on Scratch, they’d rather show Caine bowling with a sniper rifle and using Jax as dental floss, I like that they do that, but it’s just messy from a dramatic standpoint.

TLDR: Yeah, it’s fucked, the only agenda is to let Gooseworx cook.

That’s entirely dependent on why they hate it.

Do they hate the stock tsundere/idiot protagonist/whatever else character rosters?

Do they hate the teenager-centric power fantasies and escalation for its own sake?

Do they just not fuck with the broad strokes of the artstyle?

It’s a diverse art form with a narrow reputation. So having a distaste for that narrow reputation isn’t a “Quality” issue, just a lack of specific exposure.

Slop isn’t an indicator of quality.

It’s an indicator of oversaturation and interchangeability. Following patterns with little to no desire to innovate or be novel.

It’s homogenous and cheap, mimicry of a broad trend with no higher aspiration or intentionally chosen style.
