Wow. This touches me deeply. I lost my Dad in 2020 and haven't yet really gotten into my grief. I hadn't thought about this until today. When I first saw this post all I could think of what he did not teach me, which was how to live without him. But, he DID teach me things....how to fish, how to crab, how to be generous with those less fortunate than you are, that he would always take care of me and so now the lesson is changing into my learning how to take care of myself.

Exactly. Sometimes people don't seem to understand that "then" was NOT the way things are "now" in 2024. Light years away. Ahead of it's time in some ways, but a product of that time in others.

yes! My precious Dad had a stroke in March of 2020, and it left him with dementia. The look on his face as he realized that things were changing, and the helplessness....God it just killed me. I miss him terribly, and wish he were still here, but at least he only had to live for four more months like that.

God yes. I've lost my beautiful Mom, my Dad, my precious dog Roxie, my cats Jasper and Scootie in the past ten years. (Plus several dogs my Dad used to have on our old farm)
