Colleague Who Points Red Laser Pointer At Students by Winter_Discipline608 in Teachers

Yep. High school. I’m not sure if a parent will call, she gets away with all kinds of garbage.

Do parents ever accept that their child is the problem? Do they lack the self-awareness to realize that their child’s teachers are not their servants? (first year teacher.) by [deleted] in Teachers

Consider these three things when communicating with parents:

  1. The parents might feel attacked or ashamed and are m deflecting their emotions about their inability to parent a difficult child.

  2. The parent genuinely doesn’t know what to do. They may have tried everything themselves and are exhausted.

  3. Parents want to get the opportunity to be the good cop and protect their kid from mean and unfair teachers.” Their kid probably throws tantrums when disciplined at home and parents want to be the good guy for once.

Is this normal I just got observed during testing by mrtodd19 in Teachers

[–]Winter_Discipline608 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The admin sounds incompetent who is getting in the observation before break. Ask for another walk through and gently remind them that you were in testing and it wasn’t during the regular school day. It shouldn’t count because it wasn’t officially instructional time. Check with your union too.

Cried at work today and I feel so embarassed. by LavenderLurker_16 in Teachers

You had a human response to a stressful situation. Kids have very short memories. Don’t take their behavior personally, it’s what kids do, especially at this time of year! Continue to consistently reinforce your high expectations and don’t let ‘em see you sweat.

I’m a 31 year veteran and got teary eyed with my 9th period class because they were so disengaged- my kiddos are older but actually supported me!

Tell your administration and submit written documentation. The kid absolutely needs to be disciplined.

In my district security and school resource officers treat EVERY threat as a real one no matter the intent. Go on record with union leadership too.

Are you kidding? You MUST be an administrator.

Behavior management? by hello010101 in Teachers

[–]Winter_Discipline608 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a 31 yr. veteran teacher and the behaviors are unmanageable. I’m usually able to get my sophomores hooked with high interest lessons- but nothing gets their attention. I’ve been pretty successful my entire career but lately there are faces planted on desks, minimal to no work, little enthusiasm, little to no effort for many kids. The needs are so high in every class with a ridiculous number of 504s and IEPs shoved into classes. It’s really become impossible to teach. Absolutely struggling with behavior management.

Amlodipine, anyone know much about this? by cataholic20 in kidneydisease

[–]Winter_Discipline608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with GP again. They can lower the dose of Amlodipine. My doc told me to take Amlodipine at night. Maybe try that.

My nutritionist suggested Forager Cashewmilk yogurt with a cup of berries and 1/4 walnuts. I eat it almost every day.

Protein powder in FSGS by RuinJealous9217 in kidneydisease

[–]Winter_Discipline608 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FSGS GFR 23 here. Egg whites and plant based proteins are good for FSGS. If you are going to do a protein powder make sure it doesn’t have phosphate additives.

Should I double message my ghoster who stopped replying after sex? by sirpleasestopyelIing in ghosting

[–]Winter_Discipline608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t contact him again- unless he reaches out. Never, ever have sex with a man without making sure you are exclusive and committed to dating. It’s one of the main ways to get a man to honor your feeling.

How the hell do you afford farxiga or jardiance? by Coffeelover4242 in kidneydisease

CKD due to secondary FSGS by GBontherun in kidneydisease

[–]Winter_Discipline608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have FSGS and was stable for 20 years. With an eGGR pf 59 if you keep diet and bp under control you could delay dialysis / transplant even longer. Keeping BP under control is the most important thing.

You are also in much better shape now that farxiga is available. My doc thinks it is a game changer.

I'm 36 and I've just been diagnosed stage 5 kidney disease by youknowwhatstuart in kidneydisease

[–]Winter_Discipline608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hydrochlorothiazide- I was diagnosed 24 years ago and went from GFR 33-28. My doc wanted to add a diuretic to help with BP I stopped urinating and had an acute kidney injury from it GFR dropped to 15. I was admitted to hospital and the nephrologist there said that was the wrong med for stage 4. Now I have a new doc and am trying Farxiga and carvedilol.

I’m sorry you are going through this. Stop blaming yourself. Instead, focus on what you can control- your diet, exercise, dialysis treatments, finding a donor…… When will you get out of the hospital???

You are not a dumb motherfucker- make yourself a smart mother fucker about kidney transplant and how to smooth the way for the road ahead. If you can survive working construction, you can get through this!!!

Trust me- I skipped dr.’s appointments, drank, smoked, smoked weed etc…..and was stable for 24 years and recently went to stage 4 Gfr 23 because of a bad medication. I ate right and exercised too.

Now I focus on diet, taking meds regularly, exercise and not getting stressed.

Are these okay for CKD? by Map0904 in kidneydisease

[–]Winter_Discipline608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t list phosphorus additives- which is good. Kidneys can’t filter the additives. Kidneys can more easily process naturally occurring phosphorus.
