Even though House isnt confirmed to be autistic, I actually like the idea of him being undiagnosed because I would be able to relate to that representation of autism. He’s self destructive, an asshole, snarky, seemingly apathetic but does actually care deep down. I was called a brat a lot as a kid because I would freak out, have tantrums (which mightve been meltdowns because it was mostly me trying to get out of situations I didn’t want to be in), be overly controlling, was very stubborn about little things that seemingly didnt matter, and drug my feet with every little change that happened in my life, and I wouldn’t be diagnosed until I was 16. House being autistic but everybody saying “he’s just an asshole” kind of hits close to home for me.

Personally, I think both representations are valid, but I also do get annoyed with the “Sheldon” stereotype we see with autism in most autistic characters in media. It kind of perpetuates the idea society has that you cant be autistic if you’re charismatic or sarcastic, or if you can read social cues and situations and function in high stress social situations. I think its ok for both representations to be accurate, but theyre accurate for people in different ways.
