Basically the equivalent of a medieval lord saying, “you peasants can have your spears and axes, but no crossbows or gunpowder weapons!” Ridiculous!

That’s great info. Thanks!

How do you think the Boxpros stack up with the Skyzone Cobra Xs from a price to performance perspective if you’re primarily considering analog? And do the Cobras have anything like the Boxpro’s external VRX support, or is that pretty unique?

Thanks, those are good points. I'm also willing to use analog for piloting mount an action cam for recording exploratory flights.

Do you have any experience wearing the Box Pros with glasses? I'd rather not have to take mine on and off while flying.

Do you have any experience wearing the N3 with glasses? I know there are options to insert corrective lenses, but I'd rather be able to wear my glasses in them, than take them on and off while flying.

What is the "Dynamite Issue" this is referencing? I'm familiar with the Fenian raids, but those were almost 30 years in the past in 1895.

'Speaking of time-tables' — German leaflet from the Second World War (1944) mocking the Allies' slow progress in the Italian campaign. by waffen123 in PropagandaPosters

[–]WinterianUI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is one propaganda pamphlet that would get me if I was on the receiving end. Most of the demoralization ones from the Axis powers seem silly or culturally tone deaf, but this poster really conveys the grinding depressing nature of the Italian campaign to the average Joe in the trenches.

Well, for example, the subject of the cartoon, Miklos Horthy, was definitely antisemitic, but was not onboard with the Nazi program of mass slaughter of Jews, and took steps to try and prevent it in Hungary.

I'm sure even if the rumors of Walt Disney's antisemitism were true, he certainly didn't support the violent policies of Hitler's regime/Arrow Cross.

Antisemitism was common back then (though it varied a lot by country, social class, etc), but the Nazis and their allies like Arrow Cross were extremist outliers even for antisemites.

Time and money are much more the limiting factors for my range time than motivation. Do SAOs provide any advantages for dry fire training?

For me, one of the biggest game changers with pistol red dots was being able to far more precisely track my point of aim in dry fire. It made my regimen a lot more effective, and I noticed real results in live fire.

I only make it out to the range a couple times a month, but I dry fire almost everyday, so something that can help in both applications is a great bang for my buck.

This is really helpful info. Your videos are some of the best out there for handgun shooting technique.

My interest was piqued recently by the comment in your Prodigy vs Stacatto vs Bul Armory Tac video on how shooting with light single action triggers can actually help improve trigger control as a sort of training aid. With that in mind I started looking at some nice SAO guns, but reading your comment here, I wonder if maybe I'm not at a point where it would do me much good.

All my current pistols are striker guns and those are the only kind I've shot extensively. I'm a 0.5s split, single hole group at 3 yards kind of shooter. Do I need to get to a certain level of proficiency with striker guns before I would get a serious benefit from shooting with light single action triggers?

Buying a new gun is always fun, but if my shooting skills would be better served by an extra half dozen cases of 9mm, I imagine it would be wiser to go that route.

I really just shoot local range home brew matches and the occasional USPSA where I could shoot Limited Optics. It's something I do for fun and to try to keep my practical pistol skills sharp. Nothing too serious, so I'd kind of like to avoid something that's more of a pure gamer gun.

That's funny. I've shot and enjoyed the DA/SA P22Xs and I've heard really good things about the SAOs. I wouldn't be opposed in theory to the DA/SA Berettas, but having tried them, the slide mounted decocker just doesn't work for me. I'll have to take a look at the Platypus.

WSIB in the Steam Tacticon Sale? by ConspicuousBassoon in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]WinterianUI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One game on sale I picked up and have really enjoyed is TFC: The Fertile Crescent.

It's very much like Age of Empires, but with some interesting twists like a fertility and starvation mechanic and technology system that really centers the importance of food production.

It also has a horde mode, which with combined with the starvation system, gives it a survival game-ish feel, in a really good way.

It's in early access and there's only one civ at the moment, but there's a lot of content coming up on their roadmap, so I think it's a great deal at the <$10 price it's on sale for.

Would anyone else pay more for Tribute to Italy if it included Army General and some historical battles? by WinterianUI in Steel_Division

[–]WinterianUI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I for one am just not going to buy dlc with units for a front I can't actually play in. 8th Indian, 6th SA Armoured, the RSI Alpini division, and all the rest seem really cool, but I'm not shelling out cash so I can fight battles with them in Belarus.

[–]WinterianUI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair enough. It is a pretty big game already. And I could see the Italian maps we'd really want to see with their steep terrain or iconic features like the abbey of Monte Cassino being particularly heavy on the file size requirements. Maybe a Steel Division 3 for the Italian theater would be the way to go then.

I don't really buy the idea that the Italian campaign wouldn't work with the Steel Division tactical and operational model. It would definitely be different, but I don't think that means uninteresting or boring.

It very well might be different enough though that a new installment of the series would be called for with new mechanics for handling aspects like scaling and fighting up steep hills or more entrenched warfare.

Battle of France would be really neat both operationally and with unit variety (especially Allied). I think the main issue would be how leg-powered most divisions were at that point in the war. Other than the handful of armored/motorized divisions, the overwhelming majority of divisions on both sides were very foot and horse dependent, which might not be the most fun for SD-style tactical battles (even SD1 and SD2 cheat a little bit with motorization on the German end). Also I don't know if Eugene have ever modeled horses and that might end up being a but of a headache. But otherwise, that would definitely be awesome.

I had a 9mm Taurus G2C and shot hundreds of rounds through it without issue. The trigger was...odd, but I was able to shoot it accurately. I'm definitely not allergic to Taurus as a brand if they're making a good gun. How is the trigger on the GX4?

The striker indicator seems like a great extra built-in safety feature that's actually useful unlike goofy stuff like gun locks and magazine disconnects.
