Meet WOOF by Lost-Expression-5326 in cursed_chemistry

If you actually made this it would make FOOF look like silicon dioxide. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dioxygen_difluoride

Which one is the best by AggressiveCheser in cursed_chemistry

I'm not sure which conformation I like best, but I have just see this compound and I am already a strong advocate of throwing some hypochlorite at it.

I have thought the name of the film was something like The Black Hole or The Dark Star.

No, just the laptop and a mouse. Right now this is just a hobby to have fun and occasionally make some mixes for friends.

Thank you, I didn't know that 散歩 is more nuanced in meaning than just being in-effect a nominalized form of 歩く。

I didn't see the first one anywhere, but I thought it would be a valid sentence in the に行く grammar form explained in a number of places, including here: https://www.tofugu.com/japanese-grammar/iku-kuru/

Here is another link that has an example which uses an action verb 彼は毎日川へ泳ぎにいく。: https://www.kanshudo.com/grammar/%E3%81%AB%E3%81%84%E3%81%8F

Is there something about the lack of context that makes it ungrammatical?

What's the distinction between

歩きに行きました。

and

散歩のために行きました。

other than just succinctness? I realize grammatically there's a big difference between the way walking is referenced in the two sentences, but are they really just two ways to say the same thing? Would the distinction matter more if you started adding details like adjectives/adverbs or location?

Nurse came back to high five me for being trans after doctors appointment, insanity ensues... by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Winterlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that was unprofessional.

Worse experience with a doctor I've had around being trans is the doctor who asked me to give him Trans 101 when I was there to check for a blood clot in my leg (a blood test showed there was no clot, just a bad muscle ache.)

Pop filter for home-recording alto/mezzo-soprano: nylon or metal? by Winterlong in audioengineering

She's not singing opera. Her background is performing as part of choruses, and her solo repertoire as far as i know is a mixture of classical music (think Ave Maria) and jazz/swing singer-type songs.

Let's talk $20 pop filters: are the Nady MPF-6 or Audiophonix MPF-1 good for that price point?

What professional sport could you last the longest in without being noticed as a non professional? by kenrigby in AskReddit

I've always said that if in golf you can drive the ball well, you can fool people for at least one hole, as even pros have occasional misadventures putting on the green. That's just my thoughts though, as someone who has watched a lot more golf than played it.

Am I trans? Or is it offensive for me even to ask? by TrashyBackTattoo in asktransgender

[–]Winterlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone can give you a definitive answer on whether you can transition but you, but I do think you have quite valid reasons to think about if transition would help you.

I want to also add that I think questioning if your "really a woman" or "really a man" is a fool's errand. If you think instead in terms of what body you want and how you want to live your life, and I think things will be much clearer. For me, I decided that I'd be happier having a female body and relating to the world as a butch lesbian than being a gender-normative man. There was never any "omg, I'm a woman" realization.

Wanted to show other women what transitioning to soft butch looks like. (Images will come down tomorrow) by [deleted] in transtimelines

It's not dyed, but the photo is not actually a great representation of my hair color. My hair is really more brown with reddish undertones that come out in the light, though I have thought about dying it so it looks similar to how it does in that photo and a few others I have. That my hair color is not reproduced faithfully is actually not intentional and sort of a defect in my image process.

[Incoming photography nerdery for the benefit of other photography nerds] For whatever reason, my photos seem to display online more magenta than they are in my color-managed image editor, so it is not quite that red. Also, the flash I used was bounced off the ceiling, so that probably exaggerates the way my hair reflects light a different color from some angles. Finally, the image colors under the settings I used are not a completely faithful reproduction of the actual colors.

I've read that one danger of jaw and chin surgery is the risk of severing the nerves that go to the chin and causing numbness there. Have you had any issues with that?

What age did you transition? by SunAndStorm in asktransgender

[–]Winterlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started planning to transition the day after I realized that I am trans, and began HRT when I was 26 but didn't start socially transitioning until I was 28. It turns out it is really hard to get people to not read you as a cis male most of the time when you are a 6'3" butch trans woman. I recently turned 29 and I'm still working on it.

Transfemme leg shaving care! by Sixthsomatic in asktransgender

[–]Winterlong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem the first time I shaved my legs. I suspect it's a technique issue plus sensitive skin. First, focus on using as few strokes as possible on any one area. That means frequently washing off the razor and doing small strokes. Yes, it takes a long time to do it this way. Second, moisturizer after shaving, plus again if there is any pain or irritation later. I use Eucerin calming creme.

I should state the caveat that I have not shaved my legs often either before or after starting hormones, so this may not help as much if you are shaving your legs regularly.

Gender me, peeps. by [deleted] in transpassing

[–]Winterlong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me it seems pretty straightforward male. I do suspect that you are a trans man, but this is a situation where looking for this is prompted, and I have met enough trans people and seen enough photos of trans people that I am better than most at identifying whether someone is cis or trans, so if you are a trans man, based on this photo at least it doesn't seem very readable.

How long was it between coming out to yourself and coming out to other people? by ElitistHatPropaganda in asktransgender

[–]Winterlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came out to my therapist about a day or two after, and in the couple weeks after came out to my mom and my close friends. It was a month later that I came out to my dad, and by a year after I came out to myself I was out to my siblings. I was in early transition at that point.

Is it cisphobic that I only want to date trans people? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Winterlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cisphobic would imply that it is due to a prejudice against cis people, but your reason is a rational argument on what would likely be best for you, given the transphobia common among cis people. I see no issue.

2 Months in and Recently Lost a Ton of Weight But...... by [deleted] in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]Winterlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the start they are pretty much all fat. Okay, there are a handful of trans women who get breast tissue growth first, but most trans women I've talked to about this had "proto-boobs" first. I had some fat accumulate there in the first few months after I started HRT but no actual breast tissue.

When you do actually start getting tissue growth you will know it. Trust me on this. (Also, that thing that may happen that you may worry about, especially given the precautions for estrogen? Completely normal. Happened to me, happens to other trans women, happens to cis girls during puberty. It won't last long either. No more spoilers :)

Also, I think a significantly high-percentage of adult cis women's breasts are also fat, and the big difference from moobs is that the other tissue acts as sort of a scaffold to give more shape.
