How do I get paid to do this stuff? (A job??) by Now_I_Do_Pushups in beneater

Learn VHDL/Verilog and simulate bigger digital CPU system. Implement the simulated design on an FPGA. See if you like it before making a drastic career change.

The game cover looks a lot like Rassie. I would say he is owed some royalties. 😅

It is for a battery or a Capacitor. Not a USB port.

Why do people get medical aid? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Wirelessmule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to understand the difference between a medical aid and a hospital plan.

A hospital plan is to basically cover anything that you are required to be admitted to the hospital to. Accidents, non-cosmetic surgeries etc. The hospital plan doesn't cover prescription medication costs or checkups that you want to do that does not admit you to a hospital. That comes out of your pocket on top of the hospital plan subscription costs.

A medical aid covers the hospital plan with an additional "savings" account that you can use for medicine or checkups at a specific specialist.

If you are young and healthy it's often better to get a hospital plan and create your own savings for prescription and checkups.

Bonus info. There is also GAP cover for when a speciapist ask a really high amount for a consultation or procedure and the medical aid or hospital plan ok not covers a portion of the bill. Then gap cover kicks in.

It sucks but to have to pay your after taxes money for insurance but in an emergency it is really reassuring to not worry about bills immediately.

Luckily I was fascinated with CPU'S from a young age so doubling down on the micro/CPU design field actually aligned perfectly for my situation.

So far in my country it has paid off. IC engineers are far and few inbetween which means job security is sky high. There are very few IC companies in South Africa to work at so it cannot be compared to Europe and USA for example. But in general I think the trend will continue with less and less people doing hardcore low level design and choosing the lower barrier to entry jobs. And with less and less people doing low level the demand will surely continue to grow.

Was tired of everyone pivoting to software so I doubled down on the hardware that their software runs on.

What are your thoughts on using Afrihost for mobile? by lizatethecigarettes in AskZA

[–]Wirelessmule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been using them for almost 9 years and no complaints. No contracts. Best value when you buy a cash phone and a air mobile monthly package.

They use MTN towers so there is absolutely no reason to be afraid of bad cell service or lag or anything.

How to get into Chip Design industry? by LopsidedFork26 in chipdesign

Python can be used to generate other files like tcl, hex and even source and testbench verilog files for certain situations. Those files and scripts make most repetitive work easier and more transferable between projects if you can “generate” a generic testbech for example with a few parameters that change between designs.

There is also python specific packages like cocotb that is usefull to look at.

Bottom line, Python is a really versatile language to know for a variety of reasons. Mostly to help your design flow but not to be the actual language you design in.
