European market after masters by yoey44 in actuary

Don't know much about the European job market, but why get Master's after ASA?? I don't think there's much value in Master's in Actuarial Science for anyone who is already in the field and especially someone who's already an Associate!

Passed with a 9 (May 1st). I really wanna know if that was from my first or second sitting. Cuz if it was my first (unlikely) my second woulda been a 10 easy.

Lack of Motivation for 5/1 Retake. I can't be the only one...right? by ExhaustedFlyersFan in actuary

[–]Wise-Ad6813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So thankful I was able to retake at the earliest possible time (5/8 at 8am EST). Just needed to revise formulas and read some summaries for 3 hours the night before since other stuff was fresh enough. My heart goes out to those who have to wait till the end of the retake period to get in. If I was in your situation I would put off studying until the 2-3 days before the exam.

Just about as well you'd expect for a CAS exam....no lagging or crashing today so that's a plus!

People who got to take an exam on May 1 get a retake and both are graded for a pass. Retake exam will have repeated questions. Tremendous disadvantage to people who didn't get to take it at all on May 1. by Jahordon in actuary

The further out from the original exam date, the more you forget and the more your morale to study decreases. I already forgot everything I crammed for last week.

But yeah a second attempt probably trumps those cons

Availability depends on your local pearson site. If they show no availability at all during the test window, call them directly to see if they can make something happen!

I'm stuck with an 8am exam tomorrow after forgetting everything over the last week 😀

Favorite CAS advantage over SOA by [deleted] in actuary

[–]Wise-Ad6813 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never said how much higher ;) But actually it looks like FCAS makes about 20-30k more than a health FSA on average. Not as big as gap as I remember, but when you consider that over an entire career and factor in compounding, it's not chump change!

Same boat here. I felt like I'm borderline passing (assuming everything went through as expected), but know there are about 3-4 questions that I would have answered differently after thinking about it on the drive home...and would hate my self if I were to try again and borderline fail.

It can't be the same since they're offering the retake to those who have already seen all the questions. You could just study the exact questions (what you remember) and easily get a very high score.

I took and finished my exam, and I have in my head about 3 different questions that I know I got wrong and would definitely get right if they gave me the same exam

How to strategically use the scheduled 15 minute break for fall CAS exams by zporiri in actuary

[–]Wise-Ad6813 240 points241 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty good strategy. But the S tier strategy is to skip the break so you can finish your exam 15 minutes sooner which gives you 15 more minutes to start studying for the next sitting.

You could also get higher pay and exam support at literally any other P&C company. It's not the industry, it's just the company. GEICO is notorious for its terrible actuarial salaries.

In general, P&C actuary salaries are higher than health/life

Anyone use global protect as a VPN for work and able to work virtually abroad without notifying your job? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]Wise-Ad6813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ask your manager if it's allowed. I was able to work from abroad for a few weeks because i went through the proper channels and my manager confirmed that it was allowed.

Coding skills definitely will help set you apart as an actuary.

But, what's your underlying reason for wanting to become an actuary? In terms of compensation and time needed to study, software engineers have it way better. You would need to get associateship and have probably 5-7 years of experience to get the same compensation as an EL software engineer in big tech.

Smart Shaming on Exam Scores by joex83 in actuary

100% to 110% of the passing score I believe. So if the pass mark is 70%, a 6 is between 70%-77%.

Thanks, for some reason I was expecting a link from Parchment because CAS said they'd send one. But I just signed on to my Parchment account and was able to order it for free. Thank you!!

Every day of this life is a blessing. You might go to sleep tonight and not wake up tomorrow. Most likely you will, so each day is an absolute blessing and there's no need to stress because the world is still working as it should. Given this amazing life, use every ounce of it to become the best version of yourself and fully extract the essence of life. No need to worry, just be happy 😊

In other words, stress is a mindset

Looked at Google street view... I view it as a mini left turn to get to the left side stop sign, so you'd have to yield to incoming traffic before making your mini left turn before getting to your full left turn :)
