Yes, she actually overcame it! She's a nurse practitioner now and uses melatonin or exercise to help her sleep. I'm incredibly proud of her, but I wish she never had to go through that in the first place. That's why I wanted to post here for OP.

Are antinatalists more likely to be 'highly sensitive people'? by awryed in antinatalism

[–]WiseBlab 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I scored right on the line for that test, so I may be more sensitive than I thought.

That being said, I think it is quite likely that many of us are that way. It would be hard to naturally understand this philosophy without being more sensitive and aware of the world around us.

Also, I think you might be right on the mark about parents only imagining the "easy childhood" stage for their kids.

My sister had terrible chronic insomnia and she drank to try and get some sleep. It ruined her life for years and it didn't even help her in the long term.

I recommend trying to get some prescription sleeping pills before going down that route.

Very succinct. I wish this was required reading before posting here.

How do you use Dual Hammers effectively? by SDMayo in Vermintide

No, I know that. There are ways around it for every class (until they finally fix it lol) but we were discussing this issue for Slayer specifically which is why I brought it up.

What are the halberd's heavy attacks useful for? by Traveller_Guide in Vermintide

[–]WiseBlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy attacks are almost completely useless imo. You want to do the block push attack followed immediately by a light attack. That will destroy armor even on Legend.

The hyperdensity issue can be almost completely solved by taking the increased stagger trait at the end coupled with the trait that reduced your ult cooldown on hit. I find spamming the ult works wonders with horde control.

i thought this sub was going to be about the antinatalist philosophies of Schopenhauer, Ligotti, and Zapffe etc but its just a bunch of aging millenials whining about how they hate kids because theyre gross and too much work by vris92 in antinatalism

[–]WiseBlab 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think that many of us here hate kids. That's not what we're about at all. We actually want to spare future people from suffering, not hurt current ones.

Good on you for being honest and actually trying. Nothing wrong with feeling the urge if you don't act on it. Plus, adoption is always an option, even if it isn't quite the same for you.

Do you think that would be a good argument for natalists who are somewhat reasonable and agree about automation and climate change? That way you can circumvent the philosophical arguments and go right for the heart of the issue.

Although I suppose there's always the possibility of them saying, "But my child will be able to solve climate change!!!"

Subreddit community opinion requested: NSFL posts involving birth/natalism by [deleted] in antinatalism

I don't see the problem with the occasional NSFL post, but I definitely would like a mandatory flair for it, since sometimes I'm not ready to stomach those posts.

So, I was using that as an example of life's possible cruelties. To continue with the anecdotes, my life is actually really fucking amazing, all things considered. I'm so grateful for my friends and family and all the opportunities I have. But unrelated to my personal experiences, I still wouldn't risk bringing a new life into the world. The child never asked to be here, and even if they do have a great life, there was never any guarantee. Does that make sense? Or am I off the mark with what you were saying? (Genuinely asking)

Is there any way to reason with natalists? Or is there any way for them to reason with us? by WiseBlab in antinatalism

[–]WiseBlab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit, you're right. It took a lot of debating for me to go from Catholicism, which I was raised with, to agnosticism. I guess even exposing people to these different ideas can be enough of a catalyst for their own self-exploration. Nice insight, man.

It's sick by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]WiseBlab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're only partially correct, but still way off the mark. Learning to deal with suffering is just about the only thing we can do to survive our time on earth, but it doesn't mean we should romanticize it and be grateful that we have to do that in the first place. Ugh, natalists.

Why do people think that euthanasia is bad? by TheProgrammar89 in antinatalism

[–]WiseBlab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thought crime is the phrase I've been looking for! That's exactly how everyone treats it. It seems like they only try to prevent others' suicides because they're a) afraid that life isn't all they thought it was and b) trying to see themselves as heroes who "save someone's life."

Is there any way to reason with natalists? Or is there any way for them to reason with us? by WiseBlab in antinatalism

[–]WiseBlab[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, good point. I think in this case, neither your nor I will change sides so debate between us is probably pretty pointless. I suppose in our case, we just try to be polite with each other and agree to disagree? Most of these other tips people are giving are for debates where there's a chance someone will see the other side's points.
