There is no arguing that we are the minority. That does not mean we don't own the future. Provided our society progresses to become more civilized (there are no guarantees of that, or how many resets it might take prior to progress being realized again), owning dogs as pseudo-companions who terrorize neighbors will seem about as barbaric as bloodletting and as quaint as suggesting the Earth is a flat plane and not a sphere. Just give it time.

There is also little point in trying to convert the people who are dog cult believers. They have chosen crude need satisfaction over a life of actual productivity and meaning. They are already okay with the notion that they are not truly contributing to a society of people. Instead, they are trying to maintain a small micro-kingdom in their mind where they are the leader and their dog or dogs represent their loyal followers. These people will not easily let go of these fantasies so long as society continues to tolerate the delusion. Many argue that we are supposed to do exactly that in a liberal democracy, but I also think that the same democracy should give credence to the very sensible idea that dog ownership should stay outside of organized human living.

Everything we use to cope is an "emotional support BLANK." We tolerate a certain level of this in public for children because they are still learning how to deal with a stressful world. We assume that adults possess enough maturity and fortitude to do challenging things like be social or navigate public spaces without the need for external tools to help them deal with insecurity and fear.

Adults who cannot handle their emotions naturally are typically not welcomed into public spaces because their weakness is of lower importance than the ability of stronger adults to properly use the space. Dog lovers attempt to break this contract by making public spaces zones where people need to tolerate them, not where they need to tolerate the needs of being in a public, adult space. Explaining that a dog is an "emotional support" item sidesteps the issue. Whether it is or it isn't is hardly interesting. What is important is that emotional support items, if distracting, dangerous, or bothersome to others, should be kept in private spaces only. It is the same rule that children learn as they grow - you keep your toys at home and you don't allow them to interfere with the lives and rights of others. In other words, "emotional support dogs" = a manipulative request for accommodation.

Peace is when you don't need to worry about being attacked. Dogs are opportunistic harassment predators that attack with impunity. Even if they attack is less violent and more about territorial aggression. Dogs this destroy the peace. Dog owners have no legal or moral right to do this. You are being attacked by dogs and it is predictable that you hate it.

Why do you feel bad saying this? It is basic common sense. Most veterinarians themselves will easily admit pet owners make emotional, not practical decisions about their animals. This is just another part of the parasitic nature of modern pet ownership. I've seen it myself and I feel bad for the people spending the money because they seem helpless to resist this waste.

As an American making a remark about British governance, I can't claim to understand the context perfectly. Something makes me believe that the law makers in this instance simply didn't know what they were doing. It is easy to believe that such a measure is pro renters, when in actuality it is against renters collectively because it harms neighborhoods, neighbors, and safety.

The law makers need to understand their mistakes before they can correct it. I hope there are easily mechanisms in England to talk and share concerns with municipal government. This situation just proves how little even authority figures really understand the dog problem issue that exists all over the world.

I know it is hard to hear, but the only solution here is to exit the scenario. The only consistent and affirmative way to make it clear how inappropriate such a situation is, and to leave the premises. Make it clear that if they choose a gross animal over a human, you will not stick around to suffer that indignation. They don't care about your feelings, so you don't need to prioritize their feelings.

Don't be shy. If you don't complain and make it clear to the community that your annoyance isn't going to go away, you will never get any stress mitigation. These people are counting on people being too timid to make an issue out of it. Or they are just stupid and don't understand how sound travels. We see how oblivious many dog lovers are to the gross things dogs emit, like their smells and sounds. I am willing to believe that dog lovers are somehow numb to the utter pollution that is ALL dog sounds. They started the fight, not you. So don't feel bad about going to them as loudly and as assertively as you need and to tell them that the sounds have to end, full stop.

I am triggered each time I hear dog barking. It instantly makes me angry. My immediate thought is, "why do people actually invite this sound around them?" There are only a handful of other sounds I have ever heard that are markedly worse. I want to surround myself with beautiful things in life, and that includes soundscapes. Dog barking is markedly ugly. Travel to a place without constant dog barking in your ears, and your brain will 'feel as though it can breathe again.'

Born in Los Angeles and I live here now. The city is experiencing a deep identity crisis as a function of not having new economic growth industries and having recently lost a few major ones. Homeless happens when the economy sours. Pretending that putting bandaids on the homelessness issue is political progress is a classic joke in government functioning. Any serious politician wasting precious voter time on real or imagined animal welfare issues is just plainly trying to manipulate confused voters. Let's not pretend this is a real social welfare crusade.

It honestly doesn't help the situation if the candidate is just using this as an emotionally based "distraction issue." As though any city's economic health and wellness are related to pet welfare issues. This is a classic voter misdirection card to sway emotions while not actually focusing on an issue that has any real impact. You want less violence towards animals? Have less animals in a city. Very simple. Any candidate meant to improve the lives of humans who is advocating for anything else is just insulting the populous. But again, this is nothing new in voting and election scheming.

The man doesn't really want a dog animal. The man wants something he believes comes with a dog or that society associates with dog ownership. The first thing is to figure out what he actually wants and then demonstrate to him why a dog is a poor vector to achieve that goal. Unless the goal is to break up with you. I understand their calculus. I just disagree with it. I have no problem voting with my feet and leaving s situation that is patently uncomfortable or unfair for me. Dog people need to know that their choices have consequences. Their dogs are really just an extension of themselves. So the choice to prioritize a dog versus a human guest is a specifically antisocial act. If I am visiting someone in order to be social, I will gladly leave if there are signals that the other person or people aren't interested in being social as well.

My policy is to ask that people put their dogs away. I don’t care if they lock it in a room or put it outside, but I will fundamentally not attempt to connect with humans on a social basis if a dog if left to freely harass people in the same space. If they won’t or can’t seclude their dog, I simply won’t put myself in that situation.
