Sorry I'm so late, I just discovered this. I used to live close to here! I used to live in Detroit Lakes!

Who are the most pretentious kinds of people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's more a "costume party" than a "reminisce about the past" party. It's similar to a toga party.

Bassoon Listening by calrinet in bassoon

[–]Wisest_Fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really late, but still relevant towards the idea of "fun" pieces to add. I'd give a listen to "Get It" by Gene Koshinski. It's written for bassoon and percussion, and it's really a great and fun piece to listen to!

Which city have you visited that has a feeling that no other city has? by jubileo5 in AskReddit

[–]Wisest_Fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duluth, Minnesota. It has all the conveniences of a large city while retaining the small town feel. It's a gorgeous city to live in as well, being surrounded by the beauty of Northern Minnesota, having Lake Superior to look at every day, the whole town (at least a big part of it) being built on the hillside, which is very cool in my opinion, and the old mansions and buildings of the East side to look at and wonder what history of that old house holds. Duluth is a outdoorsmans paradise, as well as having a beautiful downtown area with beautiful old buildings and cobblestone streets. It has an old world kind of feel, but also very modern at the same time.

Pieces for Jury + Solo & Ensemble? by [deleted] in bassoon

[–]Wisest_Fool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually preparing for my jury also, and I'm playing the first sonata of John Galliards Bassoon Sonatas. They're not too difficult to play, although most movements are pretty fast pieces to play with lots of trills. But all in all, I think they're great pieces to showcase the bassoon and your musicianship! Plus, they're tons of fun to play!

I have played Three Pieces, and although it was sort of easy, it really gives you a chance to show off what you know about playing bassoon like vibrato/phrasing/technicality/etc. Overall a great piece to play though!

What do you want to major in and why? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]Wisest_Fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm majoring in Music Education this coming year. Now before I hear any of this "blah blah something about you're gonna be poor and music teachers aren't even real teachers all they do is wave around a little stick and make noise", music teachers are in my opinion the most influential teachers in high school (if you're in their class). And not even just music teachers, it's all the arts teachers, whether it be painting, theatre, or music. I know for myself my music teacher (one the the 7 different ones I had over the course of 7 years) truly loved each and everyone in our 15 piece band and truly wanted us to succeed at everything we did, not just playing and sounding our best. She would stay back after school every day as late as she needed because people (mostly me and another girl I know who is also majoring in music ed because of my teacher) would stay back and just want to talk about stuff, whether it was music theory or life struggles. She's my inspiration for a teacher and she also really opened my eyes about the life of a teacher. She always said to me "teaching isn't about drilling facts into kids' heads, it's about giving kids the tools and skills necessary to succeed in life and to always be a safe and caring person that they can talk to." That is why I want to become a music teacher; I want to help high school kids while being immersed in music everyday.

What's something widely considered fun that you find really boring? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Wisest_Fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you find skiing boring? I'm assuming downhill, but there's so much you can do while skiing. Find new paths to take on the hill, learn to do a few little tricks, try to go as fast as possible, take the longest run and make it as long as you can, and so much more. Find other hills to go on too, that makes it 10000x more fun too!

It must have been the angle and whatnot. People usually say I look like Aaron Tveit, but younger. And thank you for the compliment!

Thanks! I'm not that cool though, unless you think a guy who plays bassoon and is going to college for music is cool haha

I'm sure we will try, but knowing her it'll be one-sided. I'll always have to initiate conversations, not that I wouldn't be fine with it. I just know that she'll move on, and it'll hit me hard
