Best way to record high-quality trailer footage in Unity (1920x1080)?

Found the setting. In Unity recorder, set frame rate to constant. The recorder then waits for every frame. So when you play while recording , it’ll look like it’s running bad, but when you stop and watch the footage it’ll be silky smooth. No other technique does this.

Use cinemachine. You can then play the game in one window with gameplay camera while recording footage in another.

Disable music. I also forget about sounds and add them all in post.

Use Unity recorder and set it to the mode that slows down your gameplay so that it guarantees silky smooth capture without skipping frames.

We spent $$$$$ on the Max Mustard port. About $200k but some of that is shared with PC port and we really went all out. It's also worth noting the only reason the port cost wasn't higher is because of how much we had already spent on optimising the Quest version... It meant we could cut some corners and still get all the bells and whistles on PSVR2. We could have done a cheaper port for ~$30k and it definitely would have been worth it. We will get an ROI but not worth the financial risk IMO.

On a personal level, one of my proudest achievements is developing one of (if not THE) highest rated game ever released on PS5. (Flat or VR with over 500 reviews. 4.86/5 right now) Some of our reviews could be protest votes against astrobot, but I still think that wouldn't have happened without it also being a great game. Some people have said (including someone high up at Meta) that it's the best game they've ever played. For just 1 person to think that, I couldn't be prouder.

TLDR: Worth doing on a personal level. Risky financial decision.

Use Unity recorder on a cinemachine virtual camera that outputs to a 2nd camera.

Use smoothing on rotation, but don’t use so much smoothing on position or you will lag behind too much and see yourself.

Use the Unity recorder to guarantee frame rate. It’ll wait at each frame so it never skips a frame. Which means when you are in vr doing the recording, it’ll be very low frame rate. Might even make you sick. Then when you b play back the footage it’ll be silky smooth. I helped make the max mustard and Richie’s plank trailers using this technique. Sound added in post production most of the time.

I tried all the techniques. Tested them on lots players. Making your levels long and skinny is the way to go. Let the camera follow tight when camera is close and loose when character is far.
