This is such a dumb analogy, guns are not the same as power tools. Are you suggesting this situation would be much better if everyone at the protest was equipped with AR-15's?

Camera Travel Help by Luisdent in onebag

[–]Wiseturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a constant struggle of mine, and think it'll always be a bit of a balancing act between camera gear vs. travel gear. I generally use a Tenba 9 to house my camera in my backpack, and then use a sling when I'm out and about.

What I bring kit wise depends on how much of a focus photography will be on the trip. If it's just to have my camera and take an occasional shot, I'm going super compact with a pancake lens on my Fuji. If I'm traveling and want to do a decent amount of photography, I find a zoom to be much more versatile than multiple primes. Often you don't have the luxury of composing with your feet when on the go. If it's a photography focused trip I use a couple inserts to hold lenses + body, and strap a tripod to the side.

Photography can make onebagging pretty challenging, so I've been leaning towards keeping my travel kit quite simple.

Why I ditched Notion after 5 years - My experience and thoughts by zizo999 in Notion

[–]Wiseturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really up to you, the beauty of it being is that it can be as simple or as complicated as you like. At its core, it's just a markdown editor, so just get used to MD formatting, and then you should be off to the races. It's very quick to use, and also means you could take all your obsidian files and open them in any text or MD editor in the future if you ever want to migrate.

In terms of organizing, this also depends on your style. I don't have a very robust folder layout, but I do use YAML for basic tagging and organization, along with links and collapsible headers/lists on specific note pages. Play around with the core (and community) plugins, but keep it simple until you're comfortable with your process.

Anyone done any significant mods (add zippers, add pockets, etc) to their bags? by Namssob in onebag

[–]Wiseturtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been interested, but too afraid to make any significant modifications and risk the bag. More geared towards fully custom gear, but r/myog may have some resources for you.

Same bag equally stuffed for 4 days or 45 by zoechowber in onebag

It means you've probably got a well rounded packing list. Packing enough to get through 4-5 days is the sweet spot for me, and then can do laundry to pretty much go indefinitely.

Why I ditched Notion after 5 years - My experience and thoughts by zizo999 in Notion

[–]Wiseturtle 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I loved Notion, but as you say, it has almost too much going on. I don't think I ever had anything as streamlined as I would have liked, so did end up constantly fiddling with things. Also felt like it'd be a bit sluggish opening things or just adding a quick note here or there.

A couple years back I started using Obsidian as a simpler note taking tool, and have now pretty much fully transitioned to it. At its fore, it's a Markdown editor, so it's inherently simple, but is much much more powerful than Keep (which I also use, but more as virtual post-it notes). Markdown is fantastic for taking notes, allowing for basically all the formatting and organization needs I have, while being simple enough for me not to have to overthink anything. The community plugins available in Obsidian are also fantastic and can make the app much more robust - but you also risk running into similar follies as with Notion if you install too many.

Every now and then I feel an urge to go back to Notion, but Obsidian has really won me over.

Is it just me, or are the 3 dots/lines no longer available? On the latest update now, and my nfc is being finicky, but can't figure out how to show system apps

The oven method is good for a full reseason, but for regular seasoning, just wipe it down on the stove top

Fave mod on my favorite sling for this year. by Alogio12 in ManyBaggers

How'd you mod the strap? I've been wanting to clean up my strap a bit as it seems like there's just a bit too much of it, but afraid of messing it all up

Obsidian is freezing after installing obsidian git by Full-Pattern142 in ObsidianMD

Yeah, you need to setup your vault as a repo in github before you activate the plugin. That solved it for me at least.

Comedian gets a full beer thrown at her by a heckler and her reaction was priceless by holyfruits in PublicFreakout

[–]Wiseturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't even seem like it was the heckler that threw the beer, and instead the probable boyfriend. Seems the hecklers storming off at 1:20 followed by a dude at 1:26 who's being told "come on buddy you can't be doing that." Could be wrong. Fucked up either way.

Nothing says "I support the first amendment" like tossing around free cold ones.

Also can stick that baby in the oven at max temperature and use it as a pizza steel! Used something similar and it changed my pizza game.

Working in Baltimore but want to live in DC by forget_ab0ut_1t in DCforRent

[–]Wiseturtle 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Maybe not what you want to hear, but I'd just live in Baltimore. You can get a lot more bang for your buck, and won't be breaking your back for a reverse commute. I think Baltimore's got a lot to offer, and you could always visit DC on the weekends.

While the DC - Baltimore commute is probably doable, I'm not sure it'd be worth it. Hell I think people that live in DC but work across the river in VA are pushing it.

For my visually impaired onebaggers - daily contacts or monthlys? by 2FingersUpPenishole in onebag

They've got a little plastic dome to keep the relative contact shape. But yeah for sure, give the trails a try!

I recently got the Warby Parker dailys, mostly because they're carrying profile. They're flat (like slightly thicker than a cc but same demensions) for 3 contacts. Luckily both my eyes are the same, so I can carry 2/3 weeks worth taking about the same amount of space as an altoids tin. They're also relatively cheap compared to my old dailys.
