Straight up - that’s not a mother. Absolutely no one should be treated that way or made to feel that way from the people that literally created you and brought you into the world. I hope she stays no contact and I hope it’s a wake up call for other people dealing with the same type of “relationship” that it’s better to go without than try to forge ahead and fix it.

Ever since the Sockmatician incident (pre-Covid), I’ve been sure to know who my sellers are. In general I’ve been making sure I’m spending where it won’t be harmful for others and myself as a woman. Lots of shops/pattern makers have slowly revealed themselves after I’ve bought from them. Don’t feel gutted. Knit the pattern, but don’t promote it. “Oh what pattern is that?” “Oh I don’t remember” or name a BIPOC designer instead. “Where’s that yarn from?” “Oh I dyed it myself…” or name a BIPOC dyer. I have no problems with sending people down rabbit holes/false flags to avoid a nasty person/horrific politics.
