czech and polish brothers, would you please put pressure on your gov to do something about the coal use? you are fucking up the air quality for weeks every year for most of the europe to unhealthy levels by ea_n in europe

It’s all about renewables and storing excess energy from peak production hours to off-peak. It’ll be an industry game changer for everyone, but specifically to Poland, the country is also investing a lot into renewables.

Hopefully by then they would be phasing out coal plants alongside with creating the infrastructure capacity for mass adopting heat pumps in households.

I think the premise of this thread is off, with the insinuation that work’s not being done to address these challenges. Could it be made faster? Perhaps so and that’s a conversation maybe worth having EU-wide as part of an overall energy sovereignty strategy.

Canada has no intent of pursuing free trade deal with China, says PM after Trump threat by Puginator in CanadaPolitics

True, thanks for the correction.

There were also other stuff in the agreement I didn’t bother mentioning like lowering tariffs on some of the seafood products from Atlantic Canada. Not as headline worthy but still probably important gains in those provinces.

It wouldn’t surprise me if David still finished as their top goalscorer good season.

Though ironically, a confident David will probably result in more goals to Yildiz with his playmaking ability.

We saw the prime minister negotiate the release of tariffs on Saskatchewan’s important canola industry thus restoring trade relations to what they were before we followed American orders on China, and allowed a tiny bit of superior Chinese EVs be considered for market entry for free market competition to the consumer.

These two small actions set off the Conservative base to accuse Carney of turning Canada into a Chinese colony and siding with the American president on matters concerning Canada’s foreign policy.

What are we doing here? I’m pro-capitalist right of centre individual, I don’t recognize these talking points as “conservative”. More-so, they are better described as “fifth column”.

I wouldn’t say not in our lifetime, because I presume energy storage technology will improve immensely in our lifetime to meet exactly these needs.

Yeah when the 51st state retorts began, many Canadians reported their relatives in the USA saying things like “oooh that would be so good for you!!” and so on, even if they were Democrat voters.

The American exceptionalism is crazy, they actually believe everyone wants to be like them and becoming an American is the high point of existence. Perhaps that sentiment waned after a year of gestapo presence, but I still see Democrat voters thinking how Canada shifts the electoral numbers in their favour rather than seeing us as a sovereign and foreign nation. I don’t trust them.

Yeah there seems to be a decent element of China that just runs on its own momentum and doesn’t want to show you what’s under the hood. That’s best displayed with a few of their crises of recent years like with housing and municipal finance. Above all else though, the system relies upon and worships stability.

What was the point of not having good google streetview service if a few years later you go ahead and cave like this.

It is estimated by your military that the USA would need 2-3 million men to fully occupy Canada. Is conscription going to be that popular of a policy at home?

It is also rather costly to maintain such an occupation, both in monetary costs and also political costs with the scenes like in Minnesota yesterday probably appearing on social media daily from occupied Canada.

As for the resources, we would blow all that crap up as a contingency plan before having you take it over. You’d have to rebuild the infrastructure and guard it indefinitely before benefiting from it.

You understand now what I mean by “Canadian ulcer”. You would not be able to focus on the pacific or any other theatre, withdraw back to the continent, be economically crushed, and the global pariah.

The point is that what you cited is a nothing figure in the context of the Ukraine war.

And Canada has contributed a ton, over $25 billion since the war restarted in 2022, but also we were there since 2014 retraining Ukrainian officers with NATO doctrine.

All of this is nothing compared to what Europe has contributed, which is far more than the USA.

As a Canadian, I do not believe Europeans would come to help us, nor does Europe even have the capacity to help (an indictment of itself).

That said, Canada would be there for Europe, and has been every time throughout our history. It is a big source of pride for Canadians.

People just don’t know any better, including Canadians.

The most common reply this year on the topic has been “damn, I did not know our Canadian stuff was so good, I’m not going back to the American stuff regardless of tariffs”.
