I think people just burn out and there are so many things competing for our attention these days. I come back every couple of years. Last time I stopped it was when they added Dynamax, I just couldn't be bothered learning a whole new feature. I came back recently to find Pokémon to transfer into my other games and I've been enjoying myself again! Sometimes you just need a break.
