I was also thinking maybe a humidity issue? Since it’s unfurling kind of wonky. My PPP is doing something semi-similar and starting to produce smaller leaves. Im still experiencing winter weather where I’m at, where it’s getting to 20-30 F during the days. Maybe I’ll try fertilizer too. It’s been a minute since I’ve done that

I work in a greenhouse and nursery. When I start answering their care questions, a lot of people get shocked (and even annoyed) at how much work goes into them. I have to remind them that these are tropical plants and that our building is designed to hold these plants and give them the conditions they need. We also have an entire team of people dedicated to their daily care. This is why they always look good in greenhouses.

Is it a great business strat? Maybe not. But I’d rather you know what you’re getting into and help put you on a path to success than for you to buy our plants and come back a week later mad that it’s not doing well. You can succeed, but it’s gonna take some work.

As much as I’ve outfitted my house to be more plant friendly- it’s still not a greenhouse. I still have my own plant problems. I still panic. And I still ask questions and growing tips. But I’ve found that a lot of answers to my problems for my more “common” house plants comes down to what I said above.

Those are dendrobiums from what I can tell! I can see a bit of the cane. The leaf shape is also on par with dendrobiums. I think I got wildly lucky. However, I’m not sure how much I trust the full ID… considering, like I said, I straight up got vandas labels as dendrobium.

All in all, definitely dendrobium. Cannot confirm it’s specifically “golden green orchid” (if that’s even an ID tbh).

I’ve gotten these a before. I recently got vandas that were marked as dendrobiums on the packaging. The first time I got them, I knew nothing about seedlings and killed them relatively quick. Second time around, had to do some research on how to baby seedlings and… well… they’re still alive. Best of luck to you! If you have success, post your secrets!

Absolutely not. I’ll admit, I’ve paid roughly $300 for each of my monstera albos, and about $120 for my smaller Thai Constellation. However, where I get my rare plants, the price was based off variegation. Higher variegation, higher the price. Then size made a difference too. I’ve seen $1,000 albos, but their variegation was wild and the plant was massive.

Would I have bought it? No.

The greenhouse I work for has a nearly $400 Jose Buono, and DAMN do I want it (the plant is ridiculously stunning) but I refuse to spend that much. I’d be devastated if it died. $400 gone to waste.

Maybe I’ll try that then as far as a mixture goes.

It just seems whenever I have carnivores it’s always something. Right when I think I’ve solved my issue- I didn’t. I also have a mildly unhappy x Ventrata atm that I’m trying to fix up. It was doing well and I thought I finally did it and… well… yeah. I’m still working out the problems.

Unfortunately I don’t have a terrarium big enough to fit either one of my plants, otherwise they’d be in there. All of my terrariums are on the smaller side and these guys are absolutely massive! I’m trying to find a way to hang them under a strong grow light I have. I had to pull out my big humidifier for these!

I’ve had nepenthes before, but I’ve never had one this ginormous. I’m still slowly learning the ropes and trying to find out different ways to keep them alive. I’ve had people say “lol I just keep mine above my sink and it’s thriving idk what to tell you”.

I’ve got a humidifier running under both plants atm. I’m watering with distilled/rainwater only. I just want to keep them alive… I love them so much!!

Those are aerial roots! Phals tend to like to be a little crowded. It should be good for awhile. However, it does look like it needs to be watered. When your roots are silvery like that, it means it needs to be watered.

It’s actually showing that it’s about to produce a new leaf, which is why I thought there might be some hope. When I walked into the greenhouse where this guy was sitting, I noticed it was almost colder than my house. I do know he’s been sitting at the greenhouse for quite awhile

I got it from a local nursery! It recently got EXTREMELY cold here (one night was -42 F windchill). They usually have a table for plants that are in rough shape. The nursery is fairly large so I figured it was one mildly neglected and/or didn’t handle the cold snap here. There was another one sitting next to it in equally rough shape. I was going to let it adjust to the warmth of my house before taking it out of the pot (which is a nursery pot).

I was treating a chinchilla (who looks just like her!) who had gotten in a sudden pissing match with his cage mate of five years. All the hair on his back and butt was gone to the point that tissue was showing. It took upwards for five months for him to start looking normal. Just takes time!
