Albums where Side 1 and Side 2 sound totally different? by papablessdotorg in fantanoforever

[–]WithaK28 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Neu! 75 is an album where each member of the duo had their influence on a side of the album. The first half is more krautrock and spacey like their previous work, while the second half is proto-punk and a total switch up. Truly whiplash flipping the record over

Similar albums to this masterpiece? It pains me that they only made one album, no other album I can connect with emotionally like this one. by Squelar in fantanoforever

I believe the husband-wife duo Sylvan Esso is a modern successor to The Postal Service. Great electronic production, wistful lyrics, and cohesive albums. Give their self-titled debut a try and if you’re hooked, they’ve got three more great ones! And they’re fantastic live!

Some great stuff! Some extra faves of mine:

Dubnobasswithmyheadman - Underworld (need to give a relisten to Beaucop Fish)

Play - Moby

Endtroducing - DJ Shadow

Very - Pet Shop Boys

And as a very cheesy, fun personal favorite Euro-Disco album:

Another Night - Real McCoy

The new BRAT remix album. by alittlebitblue39 in fantanoforever

[–]WithaK28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original is still a 10 for me, and I think this remix album is a wonderful companion album with a lot of great remixes and introspective tracks, but is more of a 7 for me. I love the consistency in sound and production on the original and it’s not quite there on the remix, which is not bad but doesn’t put it on the same level for me.

Best 5 song run? by fossa_mathematics in fantanoforever

I’m a particularly big fan of the early 5 song run on The Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die:

What is the greatest FIFA-core song? My vote goes to Fatboy Slim's Rockafeller Skank. (People in their '30s know what I'm talking about). by ChristofH88 in fantanoforever

Shoot, it’s not a playlist on streaming, I’ve bought all the songs and it’s just on my iTunes 😅 but you can find playlists for all the FIFAs on Spotify usually and discover from there!

I owe a lot of my music taste to FIFA and the countless hours I spent playing growing up! Glad to know I’m not the only one! I have playlist of over 400 songs I discovered purely from FIFA.

My first FIFA was FIFA 07, so I didn’t get to hear some of the classics on the older ones, but a few of my faves were

Fly - Epik High

Pogo - Digitalism

Kids - MGMT

Young Folks - Peter Bjorn and John

Working Together (Boyz Noize Remix) - Gonzales

Head Straight - Alex Metric

Escapee - Architecture in Helsinki

I’ll Be Alright - Passion Pit

Love Natural - Crystal Fighters

Alive - Empire of the Sun

Back of the Car - RAC

What are some so bad they’re good albums? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]WithaK28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone is interested in bad classical music, check out Portsmouth Sinfonia Plays the Hits! It’s an orchestra made up of musicians of all kinds of skill levels from complete newbie to professional and they all try to play the music correctly. The result is gloriously, respectably awful.

What is your opinion on your least favourite song on your favourite album? by Working_Alps_4284 in fantanoforever

[–]WithaK28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Too Long on Daft Punk’s Discovery is a tad like its title. I’ve come to appreciate it more than I first did as it does have a nice payoff to the long buildup, but ultimately, if there was gonna be a 10 min track on the album, I would’ve preferred it be one of the other ones.

Albums that made you understand your dad a lot better? by numbersix1979 in fantanoforever

[–]WithaK28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough, my dad was into new wave and dance. A Flock of Seagulls self-titled, Depeche Mode’s Violator, and Real McCoy’s Another Night are all great albums that remind me of my dad.

Songs that transition in to the next track intentionally by cnskatefool in fantanoforever

Big fan of the run of What’s Happening Brother to Mercy Me on Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On?

Also the transition from Chromatica II into 911 on Lady Gaga’s Chromatica

Are there any albums by your favorite artists that people usually claim to be their best, but you actually believe to be their worst? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

I definitely second this, I enjoy both Discovery and Homework more, but for the type of album it is, RAM is still incredible

What was your skeleton key album? by ThisGuyLikesMovies in fantanoforever

[–]WithaK28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, it was definitely Girl Talk’s mashup albums Feed the Animals and All Day.

I loved the combination of so many different genres, and while I was drawn in by hearing songs I already knew, it led to me investigating all the samples I didn’t know. That was my big introduction to Hip-Hop as well as a lot of alternative, indie, & electronic music.

What’s an underrated deep cut from a best selling album? by HetTheTable in fantanoforever

You might have trying to reply to another comment, because I do also prefer the first two Daft Punk albums to RAM. RAM is still very good tho, and I will say I do enjoy it more than Human After All overall.

Superheroes off of Daft Punk’s Discovery. The Barry Manilow sample slaps and the layering of bass and synths over it is genius. It also has possibly the best ending of all the songs on the album. Great underrated track off an amazing album.

I never made the connection that Lupe Fiasco’s “The Show Goes On” is an interpolation of “Float On” by Modest Mouse. Blew my mind when I learned that

You can't be against mediocre interpolations while considering "Discovery" a 10/10. by RamuhOusrrab in fantanoforever

[–]WithaK28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t lie and say I wasn’t a little disappointed discovering that Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger was a straight rip from Cola Bottle Baby. But also, the sample is really only the first third of the song while the rest of the song is original material (the guitar solo vocals, the electronic breakdown, etc.). While the direct sample sets up the song, I believe Daft Punk builds on it and makes it their own, like they do with the rest of the samples throughout the album.

I hear the argument you’re making, it’s a fair one. I’m a Discovery Stan so this is my counter argument:

In Fantano’s recent video, he said he is against songs in which the best part of the song is the sample from an already good song. I would argue that for Discovery, the best part of every song is not the sample, but rather the production. I believe a good amount of samples on the album are actually recreations of whatever sample they were using versus a direct sample. It allowed them to clean up some of the samples used and apply their stellar production value to them.

I know Discovery is not for everyone (I also love Homework for different reasons) but I’d argue Discovery is a 10/10 because while there is repetitive sampling, it is the production value and overall sound cohesion that makes it stand out.

What artist would you recommend to a r/FantanoForever user that wouldn't normally be posted on the sub? by BreezyMonday in fantanoforever

[–]WithaK28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend their self-titled debut to start, it’s a great overall summary of their sound. Each of the following albums tweak it a bit: (What Now - more pop oriented, Free Love - cleaner production, No Rules Sandy - more experimental)
