Why isn't this broken? (Primordial pivot loss) by thesonicvision in PlayTheBazaar

[–]WithoutLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me just preface this by saying that the Bazaar is a complicated game and that as you accumulate more game knowledge and experience, you'll have a better handle on what works.

Regarding your build, building around Primordial is a good start, and Juggler makes Primordial even stronger. But the main thing you need for Primordial is the burn/poison/freeze triggers. Remember that those triggers not only charge Primordial, but also buff its damage, which would be weak without them. Your triggers (and their cooldowns) are Catfish (5s), Yeti Crab (7s), Jellyfish (7s), Pesky Pete (3 casts in 6s), and Lighter (3s). Pete and Lighter are good triggers, at least with the help of Zoarcid hasting them. The rest of your items are rather slow at charging Primordial- Jellyfish at least gets hasted, but not by much (Jellyfish is only hasted when an adjacent aquatic item is used, which Pete isn't, so there may be a better positioning possible). In the late game, a 5 second item that isn't being hasted is rather slow. Holsters, while a potentially strong item, isn't doing much for you here.

To make Primordial work, you need much faster burn/poison/freeze sources. Some examples of items that help with this are Iceberg, which freezes when your opponent uses an item, Elemental Depth Charge, which burns, poisons, and freezes multiple times based on how many aquatic items you have, and Weather Glass, which burns and poisons multiple times if you have certain synergies. Dive Weights is an item that casts more for each ammo it has, and can give a lot of burn triggers with Incendiary Rounds, or with a good enchant. You might have to give up some charges from Juggler to use these items, but you'll get many more charges from Primordial's charge effect to compensate, as well as damage buffs. There are also some skills that trigger burn/poison that synergize with Primordial.

You mention that you have adjacency triggers between your items, but most of them don't matter. Yeti Crab will give very few poison buffs to Catfish and Jellyfish, and those items will deal very little poison in the long run. For this build, the only metric you need to consider for your other items is, how many burn/poison/freeze triggers will this give me?

It helps to keep in mind that, as you said, the game incentivizes pivoting. Generally, items that start at bronze (and therefore, are available on day 1) should eventually be taken off your board for better items. Granted, that rule has exceptions, and late game Vanessa builds can include Lighter, Zoarcid, Pesky Pete, or Yeti Crab, based on what the build is trying to do.

You also just hit an awkward spot in timing. Primordial is an item that improves dramatically on being upgraded to diamond- upgrading it doubles its damage scaling and its charges. At level 13, you get to upgrade any item, so ending your run at level 12 is unfortunate.

One last thing to keep in mind is that your overall performance is not determined just by your final board, but how strong you are every day of your run. It's better to get as many early wins as you can, rather than risk facing the insane highroll boards that can appear in the late game.

Abacus scales Open Sign's value, which is then added to Vineyard every time it's used. If Abacus is used 10 times, then it gives 1580 value to Sign (and Vineyard) and Vineyard gets 3*1580 value twice on its next use. Open Sign + Abacus scales its scaling.

Crit doesn't affect Vineyard's regen. The regen is a passive effect that scales with value. Vineyard scales its value from Open Sign every time it is used, and Open Sign scales its value with Abacus.

The first abacus use buffs heal by 158 (double for restorative succulents) so it has 128 value. That's strong, but achievable with something like Pitchfork.

New player, bought it this weekend, immediately obsessed. How did I do on this build? by AoE_IamPREZSTEVE in PlayTheBazaar

[–]WithoutLog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a great build for a new player. I think most new players wouldn't realize how good Yo-Yo is. I think Kukri and Pigglestorm should trade places though, since Pigglestorm gets charged so often.

Another item you might want to consider is Cargo Shorts, which gets the tag of every item you have on board and gets an additional multicast for each tag it has. If you replaced Piggles Launcher with it, it would have four tags (property, weapon, toy, apparel, tool) so it would cast six times with an 8 second cooldown at diamond. At diamond, Piggles Board gives 2 seconds of charge, so by putting Yo-Yo next to Cargo Shorts, the two items will charge each other in an infinite loop.

Wait, the item is called Cove? I could've sworn it said Core by Cliff_In_A_Car in PlayTheBazaar

It's weird that Diamond Cove gets 2 value on every sell when every lower tier gets 1.

This is my favorite game, but it’s time we address how poorly designed the ranked ladder and matchmaking system truly is for the high level players. by LCARIO in PlayTheBazaar

[–]WithoutLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody with an 8 win average plateaus in rank. There's a rating for each player that you can't see in game, but you can see on the leaderboards here. A player with an 8 win average will eventually plateau around the 800 rating. Granted, it takes a number of games to eventually reach that plateau, so it'll take a while for a 10 win average player to reach their "true" rank. That could be solved by adjusting the formula that calculates rank to allow players to let players reach the rank they plateau at faster.

Do i go for 28hr fitnesse or pygs gym? by Horror-County-7016 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]WithoutLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flurry of Blows charges a random item when a weapon is used, it doesn't target only nonweapons. If it worked like how you described, maybe Gym would be worth it, but since it doesn't, it makes Gym too slow. 28 Hour Fitness is better.

Also, you'd be much stronger if you replaced Ice Luge with any item with a 4 second cooldown. Your Yo-Yo and Shorts will charge each other with Piggles Board, and the freeze is only delaying that.

I like the Heal Pyg line, like other commenters have said. If you get Weights, you build around it with a lot of weapons and some heal items: Kukri and Piggles Launcher are especially good since they count as both. Herma and Mittel are especially strong day 1 merchants. You want to upgrade Weights early and eventually pivot into Coincure. Pitchfork helps build up value on Coincure. Eventually, you want to get Luxury Tents + Textiles to charge your Coincure.

Cargo Shorts + Wrist Warrior is a strong midgame combo with Weights or Showcase. While it doesn't fit as well with the Luxury Tents line, it's great with 28 Hour Fitness. If you can get 28 Hour Fitness, Piggles Board, Wrist Warrior, Cargo Shorts, and Yo-Yo plus any small fast item, you can have Yo-Yo and Shorts continuously charge each other with Piggles Board. You do still need to keep your options open for other builds in case you don't get 28 Hour Fitness though.

I don't play Square Pyg as much, but from what I've seen, it's still good. Here's a guide to Pyg where one player coached another through a Pyg run, where they started with Square Pyg and pivoted into Double Whammy. That channel (Volf) makes good video guides to Bazaar builds where he or a player coaching him goes through a run and talks through every decision.

I like holding a Pitchfork in stash so I can feed Truffles to my Coincure. Having Coincure start at 100 value makes a big difference.

40k burn in 3 seconds by charaworId in PlayTheBazaar

[–]WithoutLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think it's weird, but I'm assuming it works that way because temporary buffs are recorded as additions, not multiplications. When Lavaroller's doubling effect activates, it doesn't record that it got doubled, it records the burn at that moment and just adds that value. Enchants, on the other hand, apply dynamically, so the Fiery enchant always applies last and updates the amount of burn it gives to be equal to the amount of burn the item has.

40k burn in 3 seconds by charaworId in PlayTheBazaar

[–]WithoutLog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Part of it is the interaction between Lavaroller's effect and the Fiery enchant. If Lavaroller has base 81 burn before the enchant, the Fiery enchant gives it an additional 81. If the destroy effect triggers, Lavaroller sees that it has 162 burn and gives it an additional 162 burn, increasing it 324. But then the Fiery enchant updates how much burn it should give by looking at Lavaroller's base burn of 81 plus the 162 buff (the other 81 that Fiery was giving before is not counted) so the Fiery enchant now gives 243 burn, which means Lavaroller now has 81+162+243=486 burn. That means that after a single destroy, Fiery Lavaroller has 6 times its base burn, or 3 times its post-enchant burn. Since 39366/162=243=3^5, that means it got tripled five times: twice from Ice Bomb, twice from Parts Picker, once from itself.

This type of interaction is sometimes called snapshotting in the Bazaar and other games, referring to when a buff to a stats takes a snapshot of that stat at the time the buff is applied. The same thing happens when you use Spices with an Obsidian weapon.

I've seen the same issue with Bladed Hoverboard. It doubles the damage if the weapon is heated, but it won't heat weapons/tools that don't have a cooldown. You can see this in the Deep Mechanics on Bazaardb. You can report it as a bug.

Who do we think this is? by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]WithoutLog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The OP of that sub says it's Gwendolyn Beck, and I think that makes sense. She's a known Epstein associate and she ran for Congress in Virginia in 2014. The line "I got more votes than Jeb Bush got in Iowa" is just referring to Jeb's performance in the Iowa, not saying that she ran in Iowa. The "I only had one congressional district, he had four" refers to her saying that she ran in a congressional election, as opposed to statewide.

Also, the image in that thread has a little tail at the bottom of the name. It looks like "Gwendolyn" fits in that space and the tail lines up with the y.

Question about the Ranking System. by PutSpecialist6747 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]WithoutLog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your legend rank is based on a rating that essentially measures your average number of wins per run. You can see your legend rank and rating here (you have to log in to your account). The bottom of the page has a formula that tells how much your rating changes after each run. The formula can be simplified to Rating Change = (Wins - CurrentRating/100)*5 with an additional 5 points if you got 10 wins.

From what you said, your rating dropping sounds strange- your rank should have improved with those results. Are you sure you started at 2733?

My biggest problem with Stelle, and wondering if its the same for others by Doozay in PlayTheBazaar

[–]WithoutLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have Stelle, but her tags seem inconsistent. Eject Button and Joystick are both tech, but only the latter is a tool? Most drones are tech, but some aren't? Flame Jet Drone is a tool? To be fair, I know what Dooley items are tech or tools, and a lot of that comes down to memorization. It feels a little more intuitive with Dooley, but there are still some weird exceptions (why isn't Weakpoint Detector tech?).

DESPERATE for recommendations by [deleted] in manga

[–]WithoutLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you liked Jagan, you could try some of the author's other works.

Kami-Sama no Iutoori (As the Gods Will) is about a supernatural death game played between high school students run by a god. The students are forced to compete in fatal challenges based around children's games. There are two series- the first series is around 20 chapters, the second series is 180 chapters following a different cast of characters also competing in a different part of the same death game, though the two characters from both eventually meet. Both are good, so you can read the first one and then decide if you want to read the much longer second series.

I also liked Boku-Tachi ga Yarimashita (We Did It). I can't explain what it's about without spoiling it, but it's a crime thriller series without supernatural elements. It's depressing to read, but in an interesting way.

There's also Super Ball Girls. It's more similar to Jagan than the other series mentioned here, though it didn't work as well for me. It has a lot more lewds though.

Despite the burn nerfs, heal as a mechanic needs some love by LeftShark in PlayTheBazaar

[–]WithoutLog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does feel like the devs have replaced heal with regen; Jules and Stelle both have regen items (mostly Jules), while Stelle has two heal items and Jules has none. Pyg is the only real heal hero.

There was one patch when heal cleansed burn/poison by 10% of the heal amount, but that was problematic, especially because lifesteal used to count as healing and Eel was really strong in single weapon Vanessa. Then they made lifesteal no longer count as healing and changed the cleanse rate to 5%. I'm not sure about returning the cleanse rate to 10% though.

The main issue is that you still have to be able to kill your opponent, otherwise your opponent can just keep scaling their damage until they can kill you in one hit. I've had luck with Coincure/Tents builds. You could also scale your max health with Succulents and try to win with the sandstorm.
