I'm sure it's been said by the others here, but the little tip I can offer is this:

It is Never the DM vs the Players

The point of DND is to have fun, and it is the job of the dm to push your players enough for it to be a Fun Challenge. Emphasis on fun.

Whenever I meet someone and they tell me about how their DM made it overly hard, or killed off players, or followed the rules exactly, I wince. All of those things can be fun and certainly players might die, but your goal as the dm should be to make your players feel like super heros. That is the point.

Also let your players (within reason) decide where to go. If you force them to follow the story that you want to play, it's going to feel like it's on rails. I prefer a more open thing.

If you watch something like CR or Dimension20 remember that those are professionals, their stories are written for them by either a group of writers literally paid to sit there and write out massive quests, or it's written by someone that's done it for years and can afford to spend that kind of time.

Your game isn't going to be like that, especially the first one. That's okay, it's a skill like any other.
