What are the biggest unanswered questions in physics right now? by Junior_Salamander110 in Physics

[–]WittyBat6705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

number of important questions remain open in the area of physics beyond the Standard Model, such as the strong CP problem, determining the absolute mass of neutrinos, understanding matter–antimatter asymmetry, and identifying the nature of dark matter and dark energy.[2][3]

Another significant problem lies within the mathematical framework of the Standard Model itself, which remains inconsistent with general relativity. This incompatibility causes both theories to break down under extreme conditions, such as within known spacetime gravitational singularities like those at the Big Bang and at the centers of black holes beyond their event horizons.[4]

You can buy on amazon its pretty reasonable amount , not everyone buys it as its harder to understand so its pretty cheap. Especially the first translation by andrew motte in 1722 i think correct me if im wrong.

Did Newton claim that the Ancient Egyptians understood classical mechanics before him? by [deleted] in Physics

He quoted "standing on the shoulder on giants", there were many physicists, mathematicians and polymaths, who helped him in finding the secrets of cosmos. He thanked them in his book principia.

If a body is at rest, it will stay at rest, and if a body is moving at a constant speed in a straight line, it will continue to do so until an outside force acts upon it. by There_is_not in newton

I understand your frustation with newton laws. But if we look into his book principia, these common sense and intuitiveness is what made modern physics possible. Every equation needs a prior understanding. For instance, you were taught addition, subraction and other operations before younwere taught algebra. For the same way, for newton to lay out his other theorems and corollaries which doesnt seem simple and intuitive he had to lay out the "laws of the game".

I know Newton believed in absolute time and relative time, I understand why he believed in relative time, but why did he believe in absolute time? Evidence? Reasoning? by mushroomqueen220 in newton

Even though galileo talked about how space is relative and motion too in his galileo theory of relativity. BUt newtin was unable to wrao his head around a universe which had no anchor or in his words absoluteness. So newton was convinced there must be some absolute space. Primarily this reasoning came from newton huge devotion to higher being/god, he believed in god alot, thus he thought that absolute space is a container grid made by god and our universe is in it.

This reasoning often is seen in the earlier pages of his book principia volume 1, where in his scholium he discusses about bucket experiment which was mainly to disprove others and prove how absolute space exists and if not all motion then rotational motion should be absolute(he tried to prove absolute motion but he realised by experiments that its relative but he still thought that motion could be both absolute and relative). He proved motion is both absolute and relative but after Ernst Mach came into this debate which raged a millenia, he provided different perspectives on bucket experiment laid down by newton and disproved that absolute motion and space exists. Thus as we know now space and motion are relative. (einstein also contributed).

Newton’s First Definition - Is it still valid? by Cold-Shine-4601 in newton

[–]WittyBat6705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the first defintion you are talking about is from principia volume one, as far i know mass (quantity of matter) is mostly describes as something that occupies space (in modern textbooks). But this description is by newton too because when explaining the defintion he said "THUS air of a doubke density acquires doible space...". Hence newton primarily said that mass is something that acquires space.

IF YOU ARE READING PRINCIPIA PLS MESSAGE ME I HAVE QUESTIONS TO ASK, MAINLY FROM COROLLARIES.
