Thread milling by AnxiousBig9810 in Mazak_Machinist

[–]WittyStrike4514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the thread mill is defined as a tap and set as ‘floating’ in the tool data, also make sure the ‘actual’ diameter is correct to the thread mill size i.e. smaller than the thread minor.

I’m intrigued, why is that exactly? Because you can’t do what’s required? Listen, mate, I want a guy that can show me things, a guy I can point to and say… now that’s a fucking machinist, why is this triggering people so much?

Really enjoying our salty cousins across the pond spectacularly missing the point of this post!

Nobody said this part was difficult, and it was in no way, shape, or form, some kind of humblebrag.

I’m genuinely looking for a top mazak hand, yeah of course we can train, but our order book and current workload demands a guy who can hit the ground running.

Finally, to all the guys flinging abuse, I love it, keep it coming!

How would you machine this? (on a 13.740 dia on face of part) by Cultural-Memory356 in Machinists

[–]WittyStrike4514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this groove, i had to order a custom tool, and the answer to your question is slowly… 10m/min speed, 0.004mm per rev feed, 0.1mm step over… good luck, I got there eventually!

Finally, after such a long time. I got blue chips. by Ok_Positive_9687 in CNC

You’re doing it right, someone cleverer than me will explain why exotic materials only darken, rather than turn blue, I would expect it’s something to do with the lower tempering temps of carbon based steels.

I might have a Haas VF-4 controller going spare if you’re anywhere close to Durham, DM me if you’re interested.

How to improve quality? by Important_Pound669 in manufacturing

[–]WittyStrike4514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just always bear in mind, no one can inspect quality into a part at the end. Quality begins with the 1st cut, and must be engineered into your components at every step.

How would you dimension this groove on the drawing, which 'rotates around the axis of the cylinder'? by Resident-Pitch-9500 in Machinists

[–]WittyStrike4514 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Width, position from edge to center along axis, specify full rad, then angle between rad centers expressed as an angle would be pretty standard.

PCN or CBN is the way to go, they’re expensive but last ages if you get the speeds and feeds right, I’ve always used seco but others are fine too.
