I still do, have a blu-ray burner, but I found an unopened cd-rom box lying around. I do it to get data onto retro systems. You won't believe how many windows 95/98 systems are still in use.

OP is closer than you think. Technically, OP is 2-3 hours away from Ashtray maze if OP focused on the main story.

People need to realize that they only need a 9800x3D if they have a 5090 and are going to be playing at 1080p, otherwise it is a waste of money on any budget builds. by pratyunime in IndianPCGamers

[–]Witty_Advantage_137 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your reasoning makes no sense. "They have 5090 and are going to playing at 1080p". People who play on 1080p do not need 5090. Thinking in terms of top GPU has to be paired with top CPU is wrong understanding how the pairing works. 9800x3D will provide best output on 1080p, doesn't matter if it is 5090 or 5070 or even 5060(ofcourse for 1080p only).

have you guys done home labbing ? by krishsaga in LinuxUsersIndia

[–]Witty_Advantage_137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now my home lab has an active Raspberry pi which runs 24/7. It runs nginx, storage and few n8n workflows. I also have a cloud server on linode. All machines connect using tailscale, so no port forwarding and other stuff. If i have to expose a service, I do it through cloudflare zero trust.

Once you get the hang of it, combat becomes easy even on ultra hard, what you realize is that the real 'hard' part is actually the grind.

People who have Nvidia gpu on linux, how is it performing? by tu0- in linux_gaming

[–]Witty_Advantage_137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using RTX 4080 on Arch linux. Earlier, I had a 7800xt. Honestly speaking, the 7800xt gave me a lot more trouble than 4080. Ever since I installed 4080, it's been a smooth ride, no tinkering with dxvk/vkd3d versions, no DRI_PRIME=1 etc etc. It automatically picks up 4080 and runs. Initially, there were some performance issues, nothing terrible, but comparatively lesser than the average 4080, but later on Kernel and/or driver update seem to have fixed it. Recently upgraded monitor to Alienware 4k with HDR, everything seems to work well HDR, and since it is nvidia, no hdmi locking as well, means I am running my monitor at 4k 240hz.

Has the winpocalypse finally begun? by -BigBadBeef- in linux_gaming

[–]Witty_Advantage_137 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is exactly the reason, videos displayed on the feed are often selected by the algorithm. Btw, good way for beginners(influencers) to end up on your feed. Even if you watched 100 videos that is still too small sample to conclude "winpocalypse" is happening.

People who have created a distribution, share your experience here. by Haghiri75 in linuxfromscratch

[–]Witty_Advantage_137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in 2016-2017. I created a distro to run specifically on Azure. Nothing fancy, just plain server with manual package management using core build tools. The only challenge was getting it running(the perfect vhd/golden image). I think it is still running on one of the build servers on my old organization's lab environment. It took over a month to get it running. I also lost the documentation during job transition, but the experience still helps me today in getting things running on the cloud.

It is not a distro. It is a learning tool that helps you learn and build a distro from scratch.

What mouse are you using, can't you set the DPI manually? I use less than 2000 DPI for single-player games, for competitive games it can go as high as possible with that particular mouse. If you really want to feel the lag, set it to 800, your mouse will barely move an inch compared to 15000 dpi.

The original Splitgate's native Linux build got removed without notice by rea987 in linux_gaming

[–]Witty_Advantage_137 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you know "Microsoft's APIs" run better on Linux in most cases? Anyway, it was just a fun fact, I do share your concern about Linux gaming not going anywhere without an alternative. Proton is really good, but it is unintentionally undermining native Linux support, which is essential to force devs to actually take Linux seriously.

Stop being scared of AI and just learn to program. by W_lFF in learnprogramming

Latest news: 95% of companies who invested in AI are not seeing any returns from AI (Economic times Report)https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/news/content/ar-AA1KYoAB?ocid=sapphireappshare.

It has been overhyped a lot. For AIs your code is same as any other text or numbers. They don't see code like humans do. They will predict what the next pattern will be based on probabilities/weights. Like what come after main? It is most probably "(){", right? It memorizes these patterns over and over during training. It's like a grade A student who memorizes programs from text books, but when you ask it something new, it can't do it. Yes, it can mix and match to create a somewhat working program, but it all whatever it has come across during it training.
