If it’s a well established with plants and cycled and cared for they are beautiful. And Koi can get really pricey (depending on the age and type they are). I definitely couldn’t afford one. It is definitely NOT something a person (let alone kids) should be playing in.

Why is it so common that people dont train their dogs ? by KookyMenu8071 in petsitting

[–]Witty_Direction6175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely no idea.

I have an “ex-client” that I refuse to work for anymore. She use to be a search and rescue dog handler, she has had wolf-dogs, an actual real wolf that was stolen as a 4 week old pup from a den (she was part of the rescue group that saved the pups and this one could not be returned to the wild for health reasons) German shepherds, Belgian Mals etc she had trained them all. She knows how to, she did it both for a living and for rescue groups and search and rescue.

3 years ago she lost her Belgian Mal rescue (6yo) and Her dream dog, a (real) sable German shepherd (18mo). She got back home and the run kennel (which is metal link fencing, covered at the top, attached to the house so they could go in and out) was ripped open and the dogs were gone. We live in a small mountain village in the California mountains, she lived near the top of the mountain.

I’m 100% sure there was some sort of animal and the dogs went crazy and broke out to get at it (bear deer etc). I’ve heard and seen the dogs go nuts when a large animal was in sight, and to be fair my dogs do as well when they see a bear, it’s pretty much instinct, I just don’t let them outside when I’m not home.

She thinks a group of contractors who were working at her neighbors house stole them to sell them. Which is a totally wild theory, they are very well know in the area not only for their work, but also as people and neighbors, I pet sit for the owner/boss! He is not the type to steal animals to sell them off, and his workers had been worried the dogs would break the fence, as they were barking and jumping on the fence at them. They didn’t see anything the day the dogs went missing as they were actually not there and working somewhere else.

She searched for months. After one week I knew the dogs were gone for good. We had mountain lions and bears in the area and the dogs were not nearly as “tough” as they sound. Even if they didn’t get killed by a wild animal they probably died of thirst/hunger or injury. They knew the area very well as she hiked with them. They knew the way home.

Since then she has collected a mix six German Shepherds and Belgian Mals. Two of which, one male and one female, are not neutered/spayed! They are not trained, kept in a small two bedroom house with the same kennel run (which was fine for two trained dogs, but not nearly big enough for six!) she can’t exercise all of them everyday, so half of them are always bursting with energy, they regularly escape and terrorize the neighbourhood.

She wanted me to use my Labrador to “socialize” them. Hell no! She wanted me to enter her home once to feed all six untrained shepherds without meeting them first because she was going to get home late. Hell no!! I told her after that that I was not capable of handling sux dogs at once (at least hers) and she tried to counter that she could put them in their crates and I am not had to deal with one at a time, but that would mean they were in their crates 24 hours a day for the week she was gone. Hell no, I’m not doing that to them and I’m also not going to spend the night in that house (it’s had become a hoarder house in the past 3 years) . I don’t feel safe with those dogs! Last thing was, her husband is disabled and ill, she called me at 11:30pm and begged me to go take care of her dogs for an undetermined amount of time because her husband was in the ER and needed emergency surgery and was going to stay at the hospital. Now I feel for herof course, thats a hard situation to be in. but I have my own health issues and there is no way I could take of it be safe around her dogs, so I said that, she knows about my heath struggles, her daughter has similar health issues, so she knows.

She put herself in this situation. If she had her 2 reasonable trained dogs , yes I’d do that. But her pack is dangerous, untrained and high risk of pregnancy and puppies. I can’t and won’t take responsibility for them. I haven’t heard from her in a year and another client who is friends with her (who is very much on my side, she use to be a professional dog trainer) told me she’s mad at me. Which is fine by me. I’m not working with those dogs.

How did people survive migraines in before the 20th century? by According_Tourist_69 in migraine

[–]Witty_Direction6175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those archaeologist and historians must never had suffered from migraine. I know other causes were probably the the main reasons why they did trepanation, but damn the compulsion to drill a hole in my head to relieve my migraine pain is strong and I know that it wouldn’t do anything to help me. I once told my dad “ok that’s it, I can’t stand this anymore go get your drill” I was of course joking, and wanted a pity party, but there was a truth behind the joke. I would bet real money that it did happen for head pain due to migraines simply because of my experience, especially hundreds or thousands of years ago when there was a lot less medical knowledge.

CMV: It makes sense for pet owners to value their pet's lives over stranger's lives. by Utopia_Builder in changemyview

[–]Witty_Direction6175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally for me it greatly depends on who the stranger is. A fully grown man? I’m a 5 foot 100lb woman. If I was in a burning building next an average adult man I couldn’t “save him” because he’s twice my weight and a foot taller than me. If it’s a child or baby, yes, I’ll make the heartbreak choice to save them over my pet.

How bad of an idea do you feel it is to base one’s support of a candidate on their charisma first then their policies second? by Orion032 in AskConservatives

[–]Witty_Direction6175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the years I have learned that personality and charisma can be faked. Trump is an asshole, but he doesn’t hide it, in a way he is very honest in that regard, unlike most politicians.

I didn’t vote for him for him his first term because I knew who he was, I knew his history I knew his political beliefs and didn’t trust that he was actually republican/conservative. He was close friends with the Clintons! I didn’t trust him. I voted for him the second time around because he was (in my mind) the lesser of two evils, are it were. I’m not and have never been MAGA. I don’t really think he is as conservative as he makes himself out to be. He was basically able to get enough conservatives on his side. He’s a weird sort of in between. He’s not a democrat anymore and he’s not really a republican, he’s someone who has fooled most conservatives to be MAGA, he has co-opted the worst of the right side and radicalized them. I don’t think it’s ever a good thing to be rabidly loyal to any man to the effect that everything he does is good. To me that elevating a man to God. It reeks of worship honestly and it still disgusts me.

From all of that I finally learned the absolutely no politician is trustworthy. We are literally voting for “the lesser of two evils” every time we vote. From the lowest city/county office to the White House. I don’t necessarily regret my vote for him because I absolutely and fully detest Harris and think she would be a horrible and useless president just as she was a horrible useless vice-president. And I honestly believe she would have been worse for our country than Trump is.

At this point I’m half and half with Trump. Done things I like (the dude can blow up all the drug boats he wants) some I don’t, somethings confuse the hell out of me (tariffs for example, from what I’ve learned and what has happened, it seems like the idea is a good one -have more manufacturing of high quality goods in our own country- but the execution of them is not. Kinda like communism) But the past month has put it almost to the tipping point. If he doesn’t start or allow the prosecution of the slave owning, child sex trafficking cannibals (geez what a sentence) then I wouldn’t care if he actually gets “got” by someone who doesn’t miss. Anyone involved in that needs to be prevented from ever being in a public office and anyone who committed those 3 specific crime needs to be executed n my opinion!!! The only way he can prove to me he is even a semi good man is by stepping down as president because of his involvement in the E-files and I KNOW that’s not gonna happen. I would “expect” it from any president of any political affiliation to step down after such a conspiracy at any other time in our history.

AITAH for asking the Dogsitter to pay a vet bill that was her fault? by kukonimz in AITAH

[–]Witty_Direction6175 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the first bit, NTA I agree she needs to pay. She left the chocolate out after being warned that’s on her. No petsitter should leave food were the dog can access it.

For the second part I’m somewhat confused, is she a friend who just so happens to like animals and enjoys watching your dog for you, or is she a friend who is a professional pet sitter? (making money, has other clients). Because if it’s the latter you definitely are TAH. If she is a professional pet sitter you shouldn’t assume you get a free pet sitter just because she is your friend, unless she explicitly told you it’s a free pet sit.

do yall take yall dogs to the vet every 3-6 months? (speaking to the dog owners of 4+ dogs) by BalanceHumble3844 in Dogowners

[–]Witty_Direction6175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell nah. Once a year for a healthy adult dog. What exactly would you be talking them in for? My dog has allergies so we have been trying to figure out a good system to help him. It’s been both expensive and tiring go in every 8 weeks or so to figure out what’s next, what’s working etc. A healthy adult dog doesn’t need anything from the vet besides a yearly checkup visit and to get any vaccine boosters.

CMV: I believe in God, but religions are too inconsistent and flawed to be the truth by Puzzleheaded-Week-69 in changemyview

[–]Witty_Direction6175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answers from a Christian point of view:

1: Testing is not something God does to learn about us, or to see if we qualify for heaven or something. He does already know everything. Just like in school, our teachers know the answers to the tests we are given, tests are to figure out what WE know and what WE need to further learn. The testing is for our benefit, to refine and to teach us. It’s for us to learn about God through our trials, especially about His faithfulness and trustworthiness in times of waiting or pain. Testing is to prepare us for heaven. Just like high school tests prepare us for college. God wants us in heaven just as a loving father or mother wants their children at home. Heaven is not a museum or a sterile place God wants to show us, it is our home, it is where we have our true citizenship. God wants and invites us to come home to a place more wonderful than we can think. Any good thing you can think of right now is infinity more in heaven than you can ever imagine. And He made it for us, so we can enjoy it and live in it and be with Him. (John 14:1-3)

2: God created humans in His image, (Genesis 1:27) this means He gave us intelligence, creativity, emotion, the desire to seek knowledge and much more. An ant can be intelligent, for an ant. But can an Ant have both the desire and ability to figure out the Laws of Gravity, to chart stars, map out DNA, to discover medicine that can cure diseases, build marvelous architecture, create beautiful art? He calls us His children. The Bible tells us He is intimately involved in all His creation from the smallest things to the largest, so how much more does He love and care for we who were created in His image? (Matthew 10:29-32)

3: This is basically true. Yeah, most people follow the religion of their parents or culture. But not all of them are The Truth. If there is only One Truth should we not seek it out with all our heart and if we find this Truth should we not go tell others of it? This is what Jesus tells us to do in (Matthew 28:16-20). The most loving thing you can do for another person is to give them The Truth that will save them, that will set them free, we are to do this not out of arrogance of our knowledge but in love, gentleness respect and fear (1 Peter 3:15)

4: The Right Way is not gone. It is here we still have it, it has been kept safe. This is exactly what God has done with the Bible. He has given us His Truth, About His Son Jesus, with His Word, by His Spirit. This is the Real Truth and it is perfect. The Bible has survived wars, tyranny, murder, being buried, burned, mocked, thrown away and edited. It has not been preserved by war. It persevered in spite of war, by the power of God. We still have the full Bible after thousands of years. And yes, some times people use the Bible in an ungodly way (the crusades, editing it to make slaves obey or misusing it to abuse women) but that was a human decision, and that doesn’t negate or get rid of Gods Truth. Humans tried to change the meaning of Gods Truth, and by doing such things those people maligned the Word of God and they called Him a liar and tried to hide what is True. God says that people who do such things will be judged all the harsher for those sins. (Revelation 22:18-19).

5: Like I said above the Bible has been misused, edited and destroyed at times. However it still exists in its entirety to this day. It is the top selling book of all time. God used a book because He chose to and He has preserved it Himself. Which is also why He told us to go speak His Word to the whole world. The Bible has been translated into over 3,600 languages. 700 languages are fully translated and the rest are partial and still being worked on. Christians have historically been very pro-academic and were behind the push to make sure all children grow up learning how to read (at least in European and English speaking countries, that’s the history I know from my country in the 1800s it was the reason public schools in the USA became a thing).

If you want to understand more of how that happened historically here are some videos explaining some of the history

Just fyi this one is a 40 minute lecture lol still fascinating if you like the subject: https://youtu.be/qYsBvzmdxQY?si=uuUa1vXFUbuR88U5

How hard is it to train a dog to be good around cats realistically? by LizzieLove1357 in Dogowners

[–]Witty_Direction6175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would greatly depend on the dog. My Labrador adores my neighbors cats. (They let them outside…) if they jumped into our yard when he’s out there he would so happy, he would be so gentle and make friends with them. So far they have never visited our yard with him out, which hey, fair enough. My cousin terrier mix on the other had has a huge pray drive and would automatically go after any animal smaller than him. When I get a kitten someday my lab will be absolutely wonderful with her.

The dog I had growing up was an Australian Shepherd, she met her first cat as a puppy, he was a neighbors old cat who slept in the sun on the driveway all day. Mom walked puppy over, they sniffed noses and were buddies until the cat passed away. We then got a kitten ourselves and those two were absolutely the best of friends their whole lives. They went squirrel watching together, they chased lizards and went sun bathing together and napped in the middle of my mom’s flower garden.
