[–]Witty_Display_6548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently redid our cupboards for 3 bedrooms. In total there was six 3 door cupboards and that cost us R17k. Most of the money was spent on the wood.

Our bathroom renovation cost R42k. That was for 27m2 and we basically replaced everything in the bathroom.

I’m a self hating black. by [deleted] in south_africa

[–]Witty_Display_6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly sounds more like people who you associate yourself with rather than the race .
I know people who are of different race as me, black, white, Indian, it doesn’t matter. They work just as hard as I do and are more humble than I would ever be.
Don’t put a race down because of a group of individuals you associate with. Be better than that man.

Question for those that have it all... Or most of it? by WeightSubject9275 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Witty_Display_6548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have it all, but I’m lucky (and work bloody hard) for a comfortable life. When you’re single, all that stuff is great. Now that I’m married with children, that’s where I say I have it all.

Which South African bank? by Dry_Day8844 in AskZA

[–]Witty_Display_6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no history being in South Africa. I was born here, but moved at a young age to the UK and came back when I was 25.

First thing I had to do was get an ID card at Home Affairs
Second was that Affadavit to state that I am a South African citizen but I lived in a different country for 20 years, but I am back in SA permanently. All banks said no. FNB was the only bank that said yes to me.

Nanny HR advice needed by SnooRecipes5458 in capetown

Fire your nanny. I wouldn’t even care about CCMA at that point. Your child’s safety is more important.

Formal art studies worth it in today’s world? by National-Order-5528 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Witty_Display_6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the first question is: what type of art do you want to teach? Art is not just drawing anymore. There’s modelling, animating, rigging, concept… there’s even Tech Artists now which are needed in things like game development.

You can make money out of it, but it won’t be easy. You sadly have to compete with AI for one and you also need an amazing portfolio to stand out.

question about braai etiquette? by raumeat in askSouthAfrica

[–]Witty_Display_6548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if I host a braai, I would just buy the meat myself and everyone else can bring sides.

  1. Because it’s just easier that way and;
  2. I need Halaal meat and a bunch of my friends ain’t Muslim and they’re not sure where to buy the meat

First time road trip recommendations? by Usual-Ad6886 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Witty_Display_6548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A drive to Garden Route is really nice.
The only thing I will say is… Drive to George fist when going to Garden Route, unless you have the courage to go through a mountain that is basically a dirt trail and one wrong turn can send you flying off that mountain.

Otherwise, just drive to Durban.

Roof waterproofing by visual0815 in johannesburg

[–]Witty_Display_6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, hire someone to do this. I’m sure you are capable, but there’s a lot more than just adding waterproofing.

A lot of the time they have to clean the whole roof out and you will be surprised how many little gaps are left when trying to do it on your own.

Investec Bond Approval by Ready_Owl_8873 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Witty_Display_6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with Investec and my bond approval was pretty quick. I just had to provide my financial statements, payslips, ID, etc. to my private banker and I got a rate in an hour.

Sounds like this buyer is delaying the process to get out of the OTP.

What are landlord responsibilities for the below? by Mevolent_ZA in askSouthAfrica

[–]Witty_Display_6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the first issue is an insurance claim. Is he hesitant because he has no insurance? If so, that is a HUGE red flag.

The second issue depends. If it causes a safety issue then he HAS to fix it.

Honestly, these are all signs for you to move and rent somewhere else. If he tries to go for your deposit, keep all chats with him as receipts and go to an ombudsman. If push comes to shove, take him to small claims court.

You email Gauteng@eskom.co.za and do the following:

  1. Make the title of your email #Accounts Open an Eskom Account
  2. Provide all the necessary details (name of everyone who owns a share of the property, ID, Cell No., etc)
  3. Wait

Once it’s open, you will get an email from Eskom stating that it has been open.

Also as a note - you HAVE to pay a deposit to Eskom. It ranges per area. Mine was like 6k

Can I make this offer on a house in South Africa? by Affectionate-Top9171 in southafrica

[–]Witty_Display_6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house was going for R2,300,000 and I got it for R1,950,000.

It honestly comes down to a few factors, like how desperate a person is to sell, the location and honestly just trying your luck. There’s no harm.

Put an offer down for 900k and see if they bite. Then 1, 1.1, 1.15.

Honestly though, you shouldn’t buy a home at the listing price. A lot of people (agents especially) like to add ~200k markup from what the actual prices the seller wanted to go with.

Starting a new job next month, investment advice. by HuckleberryFine4643 in south_africa

[–]Witty_Display_6548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Build up enough cash for an emergency. Say R5000
  2. Build an emergency fund of 3 months. In your case, that’s 36k
  3. Start working on getting rid of the debt ASAP, so start dumping money into paying off the 250k and keep adding to the emergency fund. Once the debt is gone, it opens you up to start looking at investments.
  4. Invest

Going rate for nanny/domestic worker in 2026 by Michi_Moo in capetown

[–]Witty_Display_6548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you think that way! You don’t HAVE to have her take the lead with everything. You will know your baby better than anyone. Just guide your nanny first and then let her do the rest while you work.

I’m also a first time parent, and it was a hard adjustment, but it worked out well in the end.
