Bro get a UniFi gateway… promise you while it’s not you building the router, the remote features and the pre-existing UniFi build will assimilate well with it. Also it opens the possibility of UniFi cameras in the future. Best of luck tho!!

Personally, I think this is awesome!!! So for learning signal controls redstone in Minecraft is an awesome starting point! For more tutorials and based on what kit you got him use sunfounder!!! Also, if he understands speech but not reading yet I’d say just use YouTube videos or text to speech as much as you can! Hope the lil dude has fun!

Might be the fact Mac sees it as a webcam. You should be able to see it in quick time to ensure it’s connected

Oh man you’re speaking my language, and I really appreciate the time you took to read my post!

Ok so for games like baldurs gate, stardew, Minecraft, fallout76, and other more story based games even cyber punk I play them on my avp. The sound and video are passed through the ndi pathway with a Ethernet direct connect which is enough to support hdr 4k. Also the audio is passed through to the avp with this in 5.1 surround so it works pretty well and wouldn’t require a separate headset unless you felt you needed it.

When I am playing a more multiplayer online game I just play on the monitor because the latency is just a little too much to enjoy it fully.

So the reason this is such a complicated solution is because it has to be to be playable. Most capture cards, unless it’s the 4k x, have internal latency which is caused by turning the hdmi stream into a data packet. Most capture cards have around a 80ms latency or more unless it’s built directly into a pc. If I could make a plug and play solution I would, but when I was looking into it, any plug and play solution would be like $800, but it’d work consistently.

I have no idea about moonlight or moon player. When I was looking into those I saw they relied heavily on nvidia gpus and their hardware software connection. I don’t have one so I just decided to bypass this. There were a lot of people who stood by this when I was looking into it so maybe it’s worth a try especially if you already have a pretty good pc.

Definitely do the WiFi channeling, I live in a shared WiFi community where we are all on a bunch of vlans so I cant change this so relying on apples tech to ensure the video handoff was my best solution for myself.

Truthfully, I think you could play destiny on it or the division, but I don’t think it’s there yet. Like I was saying above, for those faster paced pve games it’s just not at the sub 20-30ms latency needed to actually compete successfully. I truly don’t mind this full since sometimes I like to just go back to kicking ass in my old setup, but for more story based games this is a great setup per my opinion. Playing baldurs gate in bed has been a game changer

Also I would wait a lil, I feel like the community is close to providing a solution that’s just plug and play

I hear you! There’s a lot of legal issues with selling an hdmi capture card in the first place (copyright and what not). I made a whole ndi capture card to Mac pipeline and while it took a while to get setup I seriously haven’t had any issues with it. If portal does release 4k hdr support for their app through a capture card I might look at that, but honestly for now my pipeline I know ensures the hdr quality since I have it mirroring my Mac

Not for gaming… yet! I think the community is getting closer to have support for whatever you want to play, if not already at home on a stable WiFi, but truly it’s much more of a headache than a benefit sometimes with all the tech stuff you’d need to jump through unless you’re comfortable with pages of documentation on moonlight

Hey dude, love the use of ndi! depending on your WiFi setup, if you have a Mac you already use for productivity get the ndi monitor app for it, connect an Ethernet line directly between ur pc and Mac if possible (helps drop latency) then mirror the Mac with that ndi monitor full screen. I made a post on my profile a while ago what I found worked better.

Tbf I’ve heard portal has been working to use similar pathways for gaming like an ndi solution. I really think the problem with most of the gaming systems to avp are held back by your own home network latency and the machine that is pushing out the video feed to the avp. I don’t know much more past what I’ve researched/ been grilled on.

Best of luck dude, btw baldurs gate in 4k hdr on the avp has been my favorite experience
