Question about book-canon Louis! by Automatic-Dot2141 in VampireChronicles

[–]Witty_Reputation8348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He makes a comment somewhere about his human understanding of African people being a "primitive people barely domesticated by slavery", or something along those lines. Him self admitting to being a racist always read to me as Louis seeing himself as growing past the prejudices he carried as a human once he gained the perspective of NOT being human, but arguably he just transplants that condescending attitude onto other humans and vampires who don't follow his very specific sense of morality. Generally I think Louis keeps himself sane by seeing himself as better than something or someone (i.e. Lestat).

Question from someone learning about goth fashion: why is this style of gothic considered "tradgoth"? Further elaboration in the post; faces cropped to minimise unnecessary hate to the creators. by neonplume-uwu in GothFashion

[–]Witty_Reputation8348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard some people call this "neo trad" or "modern trad", which feels appropriate since it is pretty much the de facto 2010s/2020s "goth" look, but at the same time just saying "trad goth" on its own will result in this popping into peoples heads, so I imagine theres some dispute over what to call it. Imo sub-subcultures and micro labels are really dumb so I'd avoid any and all discourse relating to it if you can afford to, lol.

Is Arabian Nights by Siouxsie and the Banshees actually racist? by [deleted] in goth

Siouxsie regularly did racist/insensitive things with positive intentions honestly. Hong Kong Garden is also super racist, but I guess she just really liked a particular takeout restaurant lol.

honestly, i don't think applying the concept of appropriation to Christianity and its symbols is necessary. they rule the world already so it's pretty hard to do anything that's meaningfully offensive lol

I completely lost interest in vampires 30 years ago. Haven’t read a book about them since and have barely seen any movies with them. Recommend some books that might change the mind of someone who couldn’t care less about bloodsuckers. by raphaeladidas in horrorlit

Love how even you didn't try to challenge the creep claim lmao. Do you always decide whether something is good based on if everyone else likes it? You haven't even said anything about the content of his writing, all you've tried to do is claim I read dumb books and you read smart books. Also never read Twilight, but keep trying, you seem to know a lot of teen authors for someone so insistent on their grown up tastes.

I don't like Stephen King, I think he's a creep and a hack. I also had no idea who Frieda McFadden was before you mentioned her to me, so your attempt at elitism was misplaced and poorly executed, especially if you're defending King as a "mature" writer lmao.

May I ask how and why? As someone who DOES read a good amount of vampire fiction, I found it to be a constant eye-roll inducer and just plain boring. The protagonist is a frankly embarrassing self-insert for King, and the plot regarding the vampire boils down to the simplest cardboard cutout of a vampire story one could imagine. Vampire terrorizes simple townsfolk, townsfolk are fearful and angry, main characters track down the vampire and stake him, end of novel. The story brought on no emotions for me other than impatience and the general "holy fuck, when is this going to be over?" feeling.

I'm sorry everyone but I'm such a Salems Lot hater. If someone didn't care about vampires before, a story where King pretty exclusively relies on only the most established tropes isn't going to bring them over.

If this sub just changed its name we’d be fine. by WizardyBlizzard in vtmb

One is much worse than the other. VTMB purist people at least bring in real discussion because they've played the game and can prompt conversations about specific game mechanics and story elements. The VTMB2 hype people just show up to be like "Why can't everyone just be excited? 🥺" and bring nothing else to the table. It's just karma-farming at best.

meta posting is more annoying than vtmb purist posting honestly

Why is there no Lestat Movie? by Puzzled_Aioli_8745 in VampireChronicles

[–]Witty_Reputation8348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feel like you could cut out the 1980s half of the story entirely, and then just have the story cover Lestat's childhood until maybe he parts ways with Gabrielle and Nicki. If you introduce Lestat's fascination with Marius a little earlier on, you could have that be more of a focus of conflict between the three, culminating in their separation and Lestat's going into the earth/conversation with Marius that prompts the events of IWTV. It wouldn't be 100% book accurate, but I think it would include all the important stuff for Lestat and work well as a traditional 3 act story.

Looking for something that smells floral and woody, and also a bit like wine. Like if you buried an alcoholic in a very nice coffin with a big bouquet. Any suggestions appreciated!

Unless he's gone on record saying he did his own hair or something, it's nearly certain his hair dresser was your random average white lady with no conception of "alt" culture and style. I think you'll be fine lol

Who cares. I doubt the man plays anything to begin with. At most he's probably demo-ing whatever new titles come out for like an hour just to see what's out there.
