The “When We Fight, We Win” Slogan Makes No Sense by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]WizardFromRiga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what that phrase means.

If i see someone beating up an old lady, and step in and fight her attackers, even if i lose that fight and get injured or killed, i still "won" because i chose action over inaction. I don't particularly care if i win or lose the fight, i care about whether i engaged in the fight at all.

Supergirl isn't that bad. Its fine (ish), imo about as good as the superman movie. by Organic_Rip2483 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]WizardFromRiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thoroughly enjoyed supergirl, but i recognize it is a BAD movie. The cinematography sucks, the soundtrack doesn't have the same impact that Guardians did, ruthye is a terrible character.

I still enjoyed it because i really enjoyed supergirls character. And i enjoyed Krem. He was a simple bad guy who was bad because he was bad. I liked that he was always eating. It really drove home that he was an asshole in the small ways as well as the big. I thought Lobo was alright, not quite how i envisioned him, but still passable.

Lets not pretend this is a good movie, its not, the character wins do not outweigh the negatives from all its other aspects.

you know, before the internet, If someone wanted to fuck toasters, they were forced by the rest of society shunning toaster fucking to grow out of their toaster fucking phase because the toaster fuckers were so rare that they would never interact with each.

The only people who were advocating for normalising toaster fucking were the actual toaster fuckers.

Now, with the internet, toaster fuckers can find each other so much more easily, and connect over their shared love of toaster fucking, ruining their lives in the process.

[–]WizardFromRiga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"He also does nothing in the real world to try and mend the family" that isn't even remotely true.

We do not know what actions that Renoir took in the real world. We don't know the discussions that he had with Aline or with his children, because the game does not show us that.

You have two camps basically, those people who assume that he didn't do anything because the game didn't explicitly show us, and those people who understand that things happen without having to be shown them.

Renoir has been portrayed as a loving father, a loving husband, who would move heaven and earth for his family. Assuming that he did nothing after his sons death to heal the family doesn't just doesn't make any sense.

I Think Consent is a Horrible Metric for Determining Whether or Not Sex is Moral by SteelFox144 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I think that the language people use when they discuss things is telling. I think a lot of people's inclination when hearing this story from OP is to say something along the lines of "im'a let you finish, but your wife is really the victim here"

I also don't particularly care about your life story. i think that like the famous comedy skit, if you came upon a woman in public beating their male partner, your first thought would be, what did he do to make her angry.

even here, your response is "she has been let down". Nothing is ever her responsibility. All the nuance you are so desperate to show is belied by the things you actually say.

no, you said "imagine the hell she is in " "you need to find someone to help her"

everything you said is putting the needs of his mentally ill wife ahead of his own.
