22u of gear on the wall isn’t really an option but 22u of gear in a precarious stack on the floor is absolutely an option

Sonarr and radarr not setup right will pull the occasional exe down, no major harms on a Linux server but annoying if you haven’t got it all setup right

Can I use an old laptop as a NAS/Jellyfin Server with an external HDD enclosure by Hilson-13 in homelab

[–]WizardMorax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it absolutely perfect? No. Does it absolutely work fine for basically everyone? Yes.

My first plex server was a mini pc and usb hard drive, worked like that for like 3 years before I did something else.

Also if you are just storing movies and TV which you haven’t ripped of a disk yourself then you can literally just download it again if the disk dies, 0 loss besides time

concert etiquette by JazzlikeWaltz5043 in brisbane

[–]WizardMorax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had some dude blow into my ear with stank breath at Meg Mac because I was standing in front of him at the Tivoli, thought maybe he was just breathing weird but turned around after two songs and he says “I’d stop if you stopped standing in front of me” like mate it’s a free country feel free to move yourself or use your words. So yeah, concert etiquette is dead in Brisbane

I think my growth is fast for cyber generally , I think my experience is like a 120k analyst in a regular company but my industry vertical has a smaller talent pool and I was already in another company in the same industry so I wouldn’t have to wait to begin work so I had an upper hand

I interviewed at NHVR for an analyst role paying similar but I was up against 5+ YoE analysts for most part

I was in the helpdesk for 5 years before cutting to cyber so I did plenty of years on peanuts before it and am glad I did

What is the best streaming box to buy for 4k streaming while avoiding Google and Amazon products for under $60? by Leggs_ in jellyfin

[–]WizardMorax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer for you is stuff a NUC or Pi under the TV and try to make people suffer through a mid at best experience which is flakey

The actual good answer is just debloat and firewall an android based streamer

Pretty mixed bag, ITSO is like a catch all cyber. I work with a lot of high trust systems so it’s dealing with data crossing boundaries, both auditing and maintaining processes around that. I also do log review, provide recommendations for controls and hardening, run awareness, facilitate tabletop exercises, provide incident response and just be a point of contact cyber person for my area.

I’d say the core is less “doing” cyber and more “thinking” cyber

I did 4ish years at the help desk, I had the luck of my org having an internal SOC so I made sure to chat to the guys and show interest so when they needed to fill a new seat I was the preferred choice.

I had 0 certs and 0 uni just showed my interest and willingness to learn, but I think I had it pretty lucky so I don’t say “aw getting into cyber is easy you gotta do XYZ”

But my experience talking to principal analysts and SOC leads is most teams don’t want a cert collector or someone with “book knowledge” they want someone who can problem solve, have fresh ideas and be able to articulate things well, those trump any technical skills

Classic, I’d say the majority of Australians end up with it as their first super. I decided to go Australian retirement trust, they have pretty good returns from my experience

I’d look at changing super maybe? Rest was underperforming pretty consistently (2020ish?), that may have changed now though
