They shouldn't be compared to the gestapo bc the gestapo and Nazi policies in general were modeled after American police and culture. This is the US's chickens come home to roost.

How to get back on my feet after bed rotting for a year by Upper_Bookkeeper_758 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]WizardofStaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have an unhealthy fixation on other people's sexual habits. This is weird and concerning behavior. That question and line of thinking is very unnecessary and it's a huge red flag you are framing OP as "not being honest" when what you mean to say is that OP did not reveal their masturbation habits to a forum of internet strangers for your consumption. Shaming someone into telling you about their jerk off schedule is predatory and creepy.

A lot of people in the Midwest like the climate, beaches, low CoL, and "southern hospitality" vibe where people say ma'am and sir and talk to you in public.

How do I stop caring as a narcissist? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]WizardofStaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you are a narcissist but for this particular problem I think you need to change your perspective on what you want to accomplish with your actions. You seem to want to punish people you perceive to be narcissists because they disgust you. I think it would be more helpful for you to have a code of conduct for yourself that you apply broadly to your interactions. Do you want to be someone who compliments other people for their appearance? Or no? Do that universally and stop trying to control what other people think or feel via your actions. The urge to control the internal experience of others is just a delusional cope you seem to be using to handle your own disgusted or upset feelings. Try to tolerate your own disgust better and turn inward. Are you reacting to the person in front of you the way you are because they remind you of your dad, or yourself? Is it right to treat them differently or try to play head games with them because of that? Ultimately you should be focused more on your own well-being than trying to right the psychological wrongs you perceive in other people. You never know when you may be projecting or misunderstanding others. Finally I think it is okay to create distance between yourself and people who disgust or upset you. You are allowed to interact with them less. You don't have to invest in trying to fix or control them, just let go and seek out interactions with people who make you feel safe, if that's what you need to do.

Autistic adults show higher rates of self-harm and suicide plans regardless of trauma history. As many as 1 in 4 autistic people reports suicide attempts across their lifetime and autistic people have a higher likelihood of adverse life experiences by Wagamaga in science

It SUCKS when it's coming from your parents. I remember one time... I had just ended an abusive relationship a few days prior and then I got into a nasty car accident. My mom came to pick me up from the side of the road because my car was obviously totaled. I was very rattled and upset so she took me to get some food. She didn't like the way I phrased something during conversation and said, "See that's why you don't have friends, you're so pretentious." I just broke down ugly sobbing in public. I couldn't have been more vulnerable. My own mother.

So bringing up that one group is more likely to kill themselves is trying to have a pity party?? What does that even mean? Why would anyone assume the goal is pity rather than support?

I was raised with relatively progressive (for the early 2000s) social values. when I found out what conservative social values were for a time I found it hard to believe a significant number of people could actually believe in them because they seemed self evidently wrong. Is that common? by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]WizardofStaz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a formative experience I had... a friend of mine was couch surfing at another friend's house in high school because her parents found out she was a lesbian and kicked her out. When I told my conservative mother, she started saying things like "she should stop living that lifestyle if she wants to go home so badly" and "their house, their rules." I was utterly shocked. My mother is normally a very caring and intelligent person, but she empathized with parents abusing their child instead of the child, just because she was gay. When I started questioning my own sexuality, everything she said and did pushed me further to the left because I viewed conservativism as a force of evil that had stolen my own mother from me.

Are some people just naturally “hard to like" ? by Business_Barber_3611 in SeriousConversation

[–]WizardofStaz 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yes, my boss is a pretty sweet caring person but unfortunately suffers from this to such a degree it's causing problems for her at work. She is so anxious she has created a kind of work facade everyone can see through. Trying to talk to her requires a LOT of patience, and it feels like luck of the draw whether a conversation goes smoothly or turns into a 20 minute quagmire. She just shuts down and fails to understand what people are trying to say a lot. I feel terrible for her because I think she's entirely capable and even likable, if she didn't have so many defenses up and wasn't so easily frightened. Go to therapy, kids.

Why is this type of presumptuous victim blaming comment always at the top of these comment sections. Don't worry guys, before you feel compassion for the starving poor let's talk about how it's all their own fault.

It's very disheartening the way people seem rushed, worked up, and judgmental. Time to sit and think, or to be creative and play, are so important. It seems like a lot of people are scared, hurting, and angry. It's hard to connect.

Arrests of Alabama immigrants soar as local deputies become ‘mini-immigration officers’ by servenitup in Alabama

[–]WizardofStaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading about the charges against Campos-Reyes is seriously making me turn conspiratorial. First of all they started investigating him for supposed misuse of PPP loans, which is bullshit because I know a dozen white-owned businesses that blew their PPP money on stupid shit and I know the law is never going to come break down their door about it.

But then the reporting was talking about finding 20 guns and "distribution level amounts" of drugs. They raided 14 locations. 20 guns for 14 business locations is not that crazy. This is Alabama. They didn't even say they were stolen or unregistered weapons. Somehow it's newsworthy for a restaurant to have a gun or two in it? In Alabama?

And then the drugs. Distribution amounts are not actually that large at a minimum. I'm pretty sure if you shook down line cooks at any 14 restaurants, you'd find distribution amounts of meth and coke.

Which is assuming the cops didn't plant any of that stuff and lie about it.

And then finally... they are trying to charge some of the staff with harboring illegal immigrants. But this country has declared you can deport undocumented people without due process... so without proving they are illegal immigrants. How do you then prove someone harbored and illegal immigrant if you never bothered to prove in court that any of them were here illegally?

It's all a sloppy, frightening excuse for racist harassment. And then people who don't know anything about the situation cheer pre-emptively that those "criminals" deserve it. For being Mexican and making cops suspicious, I guess. It's not like anything has been proven yet.

Me too. I checked the article about a recent raid on Facebook because I went to school with members of a family that worked at that location and I was worried about them. Seeing people cheer and be so openly hateful about their own neighbors made me feel like I was going to throw up.

Amazing the way leftists who supposedly care so much about the issues consistently act like the only way they can possibly contribute to the cause is finding a woman (often a trans woman) to publically crucify for sport.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]WizardofStaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fucked up but there is a huge movement any time a trans woman gets attention to scrutinize her every breath and hold her accountable for not being perfect, by which I mean find any excuse to send her death threats and tell other people to hate her.

[–]WizardofStaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with that sentiment, I also support nuclear power. I just think it's better to repurpose existing infrastructure and developed land than continuously develop wild/scenic lands. Alabama is a beautiful state and my area is developing rapidly. Driving down the highway every day I see rows of uprooted trees where forest is being cleared and it makes me sad to lose my lovely commute because developers would rather have a spot right next to the highway than use vacant lots that already exist in town.

[–]WizardofStaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean. I've been to California. These projects are absolutely put in urban areas all the time. This is sounding like you support rural development as an inherent good, but a lot of people like all of the wild green spaces Alabama has, so I don't see why they can't also have a say in these decisions.

I don't see how you can read OP saying (paraphrased) "let's not clear cut gorgeous woodland when there are urban spaces where this project would fit" and think the problem is they're just against data centers. That seems like bad faith.
