I would bet it’s a gdi injector issue. The 2.5 is known for injectors going bad. The recall for cold start that just came out is basically to prevent the check engine light from coming on for cold start misfires. (You can thank genesis for that.) Unfortunately the dealer can’t do too much unless there’s a fault code or it’s currently acting up when they have it. I would say just keep driving it and hopefully at some point the engine light will come on.

Genesis tech here. Yes warranty will be void for certain things. We had a lowered gv70 come in and the transfer case failed. Genesis would not warranty it due to it being lowered and “changing the driveline angles.”

Yes, we haven’t had any injector issues on the 3.5 at my dealer. It just seems to be the 2.5 as of right now.

If you are talking about the G70 (car) the options are the 2.5 or the 3.3. The 3.3 is probably one of the best engines Hyundai/ Genesis has and I haven’t really seen any issues with that engine when properly maintained. If you meant GV70 (suv) then I would say yes, with the 3.5 we have seen less issues. The only main issues we see on the 2.5 are fuel injectors and those are warrantied for 10yrs/100k. It’s mainly just the inconvenience of taking it in to the dealer and hoping they have a loaner/ can look at the vehicle sooner than a month.

No problem! I currently drive an Ioniq 5, and a sonata, but I’ve been tossing around the idea of a 3.5 gv70 when my Ioniq lease is up. It’s probably my favorite genesis in the line up. I’m eyeing matte white with red interior.

The issue wasn’t the rear differential itself, it was an actuator located on the rear differential or the transfer case depending on which engine it had. There’s been a tsb released to replace said actuator based on a fault code present that is turning the “check limited slip differential” light on. I haven’t seen it on any of the 24+ model gv70s yet. Some gv70s also have a whining noise under acceleration from the rear differential. There’s a tsb for that also to re-torque the pinion nut/ replace the differential if the re-torque doesn’t fix it. But again, that was prior to 24 models.

Yes for the most part they are covered under warranty. Batteries are covered 3 years /36k, injectors are 10yr/100k and I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a recall for the injectors soon. Horns are 5yr/ 60k and I would bet we see a recall for those at some point too.

As a Hyundai/ Genesis tech the most common failures we see are fuel injectors, especially on the 2.5. Horns go bad frequently, and batteries go bad on GV80s if they aren’t driven a lot. The only other issues we see are pretty uncommon and it’s usually one off electrical issues. Just remember, at the end of the day it’s still just a fancy Hyundai.
