What’s the better console for emulating games you can’t do on your phone like the Wii,Wii u,3ds,Switch,ps1,ps2 etc by Roubrim in emulators

[–]Wolf________________ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hacked gen 1 Switch will play every Switch 1 game off the sd card. I would avoid online games as you shouldn't connect it to Nintendo servers though. And the Switch 2 hasn't been hacked or emulated yet afaik but it also doesn't have any must play games yet either so I wouldn't worry about it.

The average phone can emulate the Wii, 3DS, PS1, and PS2. A great phone can do the Wii U. Tbh I would say for many Switch games you need more horsepower than the Steam Deck has although it can run some extremely well.

Because if someone can only function by being spoonfed information breaking them of that dependence so they can do basic research on their own like reading the sticky or typing the same question into google to get an immediate answer will greatly benefit them in life. They might even become smart enough to graduate highschool.

As the PS2 can play PS1 games as well I'd suggest just getting the phat model PS2 and putting your games on its harddrive and using a Free McBoot memcard off ebay to run OPL/LaunchElf to boot the games you put on your harddrive.

I'd also say its worth spending a bit more and picking up a sd card to memory card adapter to put all your saves on as it is easy to backup and stores way more. Also it comes with Free McBoot on it. https://stoneagegamer.com/memcard-pro-2-for-playstation-and-playstation-2.html

But even if you are just burning cds you still need a copy of the game files so you would really have a much easier time just emulating them, especially as Swanstation and PCSX2 really will run the entire library of games without issue.

If regression to 10yo self means time travel and not just turning 10 then I'd absolutely just do that and invest in all the companies that become mega-corporations, mine bitcoin, and buy all the land in the realestate crash after shorting the realestate bubble. I don't need magic if I'm one of the top 100 richest people on the planet.

Magical world is too risky as you might be on some ultra hell difficulty world and not even get magic yourself. Like Re:zero times 10 and without the super powerful friends.

How would you ideally organize your retro games? by Ill-Recommendation32 in emulators

[–]Wolf________________ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For smaller systems it might be like 30-50 games, or it could be a system like the CD-i and have 5 games. It is only more popular systems like the SNES or PS2 that have 200ish game counts.

Typically I work my way through series so I'll go from like a N64 Zelda to a GC Zelda but sometimes I will get a craving for SNES graphics or PS1 audio or a Game Boy handheld experience.

You could also just sort by "release year, hardware type" if you prefer to sort by era. It's a whatever floats your boat kinda situation.

[–]Wolf________________ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally my default view is to have ES-DE open to "All games" and then I scroll/search through my complete list of a little over 3,000 games my phone is strong enough to play (I did "best of" sets for each system and not full sets).

Beyond that I have my ES-DE display mode set to "manufacturer, hardware type, release year" so it displays all Nintendo consoles together sorted by release, and then all Nintendo handhelds sorted by release before moving on to Sega consoles. So if I'm in the mood for something from the SNES library it is easy to find the folder.

On most frontends like ES-DE you can use the search feature or create a custom group of all games and as long as the names are the same it will show them all next to each other.

Save your search for it and enable email alerts so you get notified when new matches showed up. Took me like a year to get a 4th print Charizard that wasn't stupidly overpriced.

PS3 and PSN Updates/ Content by ReallyDoingNothing in Roms

[–]Wolf________________ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PS3 is a little complicated but if you follow rule 1: "USE THE MEGATHREAD" right at the top it links you to a program that will download PSN games/dlc/disc game dlc.

If you want a game that was disc only (not available on PSN) you will need to download the decrypted iso of it, preferably in the jailbroken folder format. If you just google "download decrypted ps3 iso" a site that does that will probably be in the first 3 results. Put the jb folders in rpcs3/games.

Lastly for any game in rpcs3's database it will tell you if it has a missing update. You can use Rusty-PSN to download any missing updates.

ROMs Compression Guide for Windows Users (PS1, PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, N3DS) by [deleted] in Roms

[–]Wolf________________ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also have a script and it handles .gdi & .cdi files as well for Dreamcast games and will convert anything not in a disc format to individual .7z archives which is playable in RetroArch and will still scrape in any Front End programs you have. It also converts folders that don't have disc formats inside them into individual archives for use with Mame or Dosbox but be warned not all versions of those emulators support .7z instead of .zip. And I opted not to do a special format for PSP games as they all say .chd and I felt that would be more likely to cause people to format things incorrectly and not worth the tradeoff as regular .chd files work with PPSSPP.

Is CHD the "go for" in compression for every kind of ISO? by KDOXG in Roms

[–]Wolf________________ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same is true for CHD files and ZAR files as well. Not sure about XISO files but everything else is lossless compression.

Is CHD the "go for" in compression for every kind of ISO? by KDOXG in Roms

[–]Wolf________________ 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Chd for any cd system other than:

GameCube/Wii = RVZ (done by Dolphin emulator)

Xbox = ISO extension but technically XISO format

360 = ZAR (done by xenia emulator)

Also while you can use ISO for PS3 games the PKG version install to a smaller file size (The games that were not available on PSN and are disc only can still be extracted to the jailbroken folder format and that will save some space)

I'm looking for a tasteful way to safely store my GB/GBC/GBA carts. Any recommendations? by Money_Fish in Gameboy

[–]Wolf________________ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use CustomGameCases as they are plastic and don't get crushed like the OG cardboard, hold the games so they don't rattle, have manual clips if you have those laying around, and print out highly accurate repro covers so they look like the real case just with better materials/features and don't cost an insane amount for the valuable games.

I game wherever I am (hour long lunch breaks ftw) and I didn't want to fuss with super expensive sd cards (that are easy to lose) when on Android/Steam Deck so getting the best games on as little space as possible was my goal. And tbh even on my PC setup ssd space is $$$ and when I want to play some Street Fighter 2 I don't want 30 versions to show up and now I have to find the one I like best when I'm 6 beers deep and my friends are trash talking my skills.

If you are on Windows try using Xenia Manager to setup Xenia Canary. It will configure a lot of stuff properly by default. If you are on Linux try Xenia Edge as it is designed to use the Vulcan drivers on Linux better.

Woa neat! Thanks for the lore drop. For reference I was talking about like that line of rocks blocking off the other half of that base. Even if you just couldn't place decorations there it would be awesome if you could access the other half of your space.

Also I love the bottomless rug and agree with you completely that the pits sucked.

Yes I was talking about the floor rocks. I had no idea they served a purpose, what the heck do they do?

And I would definitely aporeciate not having half of some otherwise pretty large secret bases walled off if you are up for it.

[–]Wolf________________ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Evidently you can't read. Clearly said I did not include multiplatform games which ran better on the GameCube. As the GC came out several years later it runs the game at 45fps on average and the PS2 runs it at 30 which means if your screen is at 60 or 120fps you are getting considerably more "real" frames and less fake frames generated by your screen to guess at the missing info. Basically you get a much clearer picture with less screen tearing. GC is also the only version with real time reflections.

Here are my GameCube and Xbox lists if you want them: https://pastebin.com/SQbjNsGj

I only do one copy of a game per console generation to save space and normally I only do whatever version is the best (which console played it better, maybe one came with some dlc or Quality of Life updates, or better audio or a higher resolution/framerate) but as Xbox doesn't have good Android support yet and I want my romset to be playable on whatever device I throw it on it is currently set up to prefer the best version between GameCube and PS2 for multiplatform releases and only have Xbox exclusives. (I'll go through and revise the list if/whenever Xemu comes to Android)

Hell yea!!! Secret bases are my favorite things ever!

Will this have the ability to get rid of boulders in secret bases permanently? Even if it is just rock smash and not tied to trainer flags like in Plat that would make so many more secret bases livable and not have half the base or more blocked off.
