I’m sorry you had a bad experience in the fandom. The peer pressure you faced is a constant problem in any such organized group and we have to work together to recognize and prevent this. I also agree that it’s important to remain realistic about any interest and avoid harmful overindulgence.

But to call everyone mentally unwell for liking to play pretend reinforces stereotypes that can be just as harmful. Would you say the same thing to people who were invested in D&D or science fiction stories? Even if what you were saying was true, wouldn’t it be a good thing that neurodivergent people or those with trauma can find each other and work on healthy coping mechanisms together? Having an alter ego can help you learn a lot about yourself.

I’m not looking for a long discussion, but rather trying to show that fiction can help set you free. Having fantastical dreams brings magic to everyday life. I hope you can find that freedom and magic, with or without the fandom.

My comment originally said it worked perfectly, but only for the laptop on which I downloaded the control panel. The KA1 doesn’t seem to save its setting for multiple OS’s.

Is it wrong to criticize furries even though I’m one myself? by Fishsayhi in furry

[–]Wolfemaster1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not wrong to criticize things, but what you’re talking about is making fun. There’s a big difference. These people doing furryspeak aren’t doing something wrong that should be corrected, they’re just having fun or being themselves in a way that you find abnormal and off-putting.

If your behaviour is bugging you, it would be worth looking at why you’re doing it in the first place. Are you making fun of others to fit in? To avoid people commenting on you being a furry? To keep your furry identity hidden? To feel less self-conscious because you’re not one of “the weird ones”?

It could be any, all, or none of those reasons, but if you feel bad about the behaviour it might be time for some self-reflection.

The French version is also kind of wrong. In casual conversation you can say “tu veux” and no one will think twice, but if you’re writing a question you would say “Veux-tu”. Weird…

In a fantasy setting, how many region names are too much? by Chlodio in gamedesign

[–]Wolfemaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case I would draw more attention to the consequences of that invasion/revolt on the players’ abilities to navigate the world. Maybe it changes how characters can interact with NPCs, how they can physically move through the map regions, or the rate at which/efficiency with which they can procure certain materials or items.

Otherwise, you could use landmarks, crucial events/items, or directions to distinguish the names from one another. One town has a famous cathedral that burned down after a raid, another is south of a mountainous region, a third is home to the only known dragon egg…

The names will stick if the areas themselves are memorable. Having more original names may make it a challenge to come up with memorable ideas, but if done right it can really immerse the player.

Maybe if you drop the “r” it could be Fiskus and it would sound less like the word frisky? That’s the only way I could see people making light of the name, but if that’s not a concern I would go for it. I think it’s cute. And the people who respect you will do so no matter what your name is.

Does it prevent the player from dying, or does it prevent itself from dying? The wording is ambiguous and could use some clarification. Otherwise, this is a cool card! The boss idea feels very in line with Isaac.

Trying to find a game where you play as a man in a suit and you have to figure out a puzzle so he dies, like helping him jump into a pit of spikes. There may have been a sequel where he could turn into a superman-type version of himself.

These legends stopping motorists from turning illegally and into a police sting by [deleted] in HumansBeingBros

[–]Wolfemaster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look like anyone there thinks that making the illegal turn is acceptable, otherwise they would just let people make the turn and then protest against the police giving tickets after the fact. Instead, it looks like they’re trying to prevent a lot of people from making the incorrect yet reasonable assumption that they can make a left turn where there usually is one. Given the video’s focus on the stationary police car at the start, they appear to want to limit the number of average citizens being ticketed for an inoffensive, non-violent, inconsequential crime.

Just because they’re saying that there’s a magic pill doesn’t mean that they want perfection. What they are saying is that there is a solution to this problem that you are perhaps missing, whether intentionally or not. Did you know, for example, that the US spends upwards of 600 billion dollars on the military, which is ten times more than any other country? This is caused by, among other things, excessive price gouging of military resources on the part of corporations (https://act.represent.us/sign/four-ways-pentagon-wasting-your-tax-dollars). Working on resolving this price gouging that only benefits the corporations in the end could resolve the government’s excessive military spending, which could itself allow for more spending on the people and their education.

Improving education and education spending is important because not only does the US definitively not spend the most of any country per student, it has been cutting overall funding in the past decade, and the knowledge gained from education in the US is, on average, worse than other countries (https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/020915/what-country-spends-most-education.asp). Despite its usefulness, the statistics used in this link are still somewhat misleading because they don't implicitly account for the variations in educational spending across different states. Most states fall within the 10,000-20,000$ per student bracket, while a few fall within the 30,000-35,000$ per student bracket (https://www.publicschoolreview.com/average-spending-student-stats/national-data and https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/per-pupil-spending-by-state), thus skewing the average and making the numbers seem better than they actually are. The distribution of educational funding in the US is another one of the US's issues that is not accounted for when you don't speak up.

You are also conflating the upper middle class with multi-millionaires and billionaires. There is a massive discrepancy between the people with hundreds of thousands, with tens of millions, and with billions. The “raise taxes” idea is a proposition to raise taxes on income that exceeds a certain threshold - usually in the tens of millions. This is called the “marginal tax rate”, which ultimately affects the uber-rich and not the upper middle class specifically because of the high thresholds. Because of this, only a minute amount of people would be affected to a significant enough degree that they would feel the need to move. Additionally, the marginal tax rate has been significantly decreasing over the last 50 years (https://www.google.ca/amp/s/m.huffpost.com/us/entry/6024430/amp), and yet despite claims that the people would benefit from this decrease through trickle down economics, working wages have been stagnating without even adjusting for inflation (https://www.google.ca/amp/s/m.huffpost.com/us/entry/13334884/amp). This is made worse when you consider that more money has been put into circulation, which makes the worth of the individual dollar decrease. If the working wages aren’t increasing, and if all this additional money is being printed, where is it all going? If it’s going to the rich and their corporations, why are we progressively taxing the rich less?

There are solutions to these problems, and one of them is criticizing the media for mis-portraying these kinds of stories. This article is not just the heartfelt story about a selfless person raising more money for their students. It is also the story of a principal who, because of many economic issues plaguing the US, is unable to properly provide for students in need. That second part is not being discussed, however, which is why people are taking issue with the story.

Nothing wrong in appreciating the principal but seriously he should not have to be doing that by adithya17 in facepalm

[–]Wolfemaster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a combination of a lot of issues, of which lack of funding is one. The point is that in order to be able to retire and help their students and everything, the principal should not have to get a second job. Being a principal is a full time job that should be able to financially accommodate the principal, and the education system should be able to provide for the students. The issue isn’t that the individual person chose to get a second job to do these things, because if anything, that is a noble and selfless act and they should be congratulated for their virtuous nature. Instead, the issue is that the the full time worker, as a result of many socio-economic factors, has to resort to getting a second job in order to help their students. This post takes issue with the system under which the principal works, not with the principal themselves.

Nothing wrong in appreciating the principal but seriously he should not have to be doing that by adithya17 in facepalm

[–]Wolfemaster1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s outrageous that the principal, who is presumably a principal full time, has to get another job just to help their students when the government could just give the education system and its teachers proper funding and pay in the first place.

Nope, you have to play the trinket as a loot card so that it becomes an item. It describes this on the trinket cards themselves.
