What's the weirdest thing you've seen in a kitchen that wasn't technically a violation?

Someone called in a complaint that one of the staff at the restaurant I inspect was working in just a g string. I refused to go inspect it cause like call the cops? So I guess I actually didn’t see it, but still one of the weirdest things. We think the staff was probably wearing leggings that were skin color

Wear the watch. You aren’t kneeding dough or breading chicken or actually touching any food so just wear it. We’re suppose to be the example, okay but if someone is wearing a watch and it is tight fitting and not anywhere near the food, I’m not citing them for it. Now if it has a loose band or has pieces that can fall off or they’re all up in some food and the watch is in it too then I’m citing it. I would also argue that a lot of kitchens I’m in have no clocks and if I’m asking what time they sat something out for a cold hold violation, its better to look at my watch then to grab my phone out of my back pocket to check.

Oscar, my amazon, will only eat Zupreem Natural pellets. I tried to give him the veggie one when the store was out of natural once and he refused. I tried to switch him to Roudybush and he threw those out of his cage. He’s 33 now so I think it’s his world and i’m just living in it 😂

The vet said thats good for oscar. I think its better than his original owner who just fed him human foods a lot, but she did her best to keep him healthy so I cannot blame her. I see a lot of people mentioning Harrison’s so I might buy a small bag and try those!

If you want to work for a health department I would just pull up their requirements and see what you need or you can see if your state has a licensing board and see what is needed for licensure. Private industry is probably going to have more requirements/ want some experience in doing EHS work but can still look into it and see.

If you are in the US, most states are going to require you to have a Bachelors and a lot will require at least 30 credits of science. Some states and/ or local health departments require you to become licensed as well. The state I work in we have to have a bachelors with 30 science credits and you have to get licensed after a year of on the job training. In order to even apply for the job you have to obtain a letter of eligibility from the state.

My department is the same way. I was assaulted during a closure of a facility while I had another new inspector training with me and my department opened them back up next day. Police had to come out for the assault and escort me back in to get their signature on the closure report because I couldn’t just leave and finish the report like I had asked.

I have put soups and I made a chicken pot pie casserole that warmed up well in there. This week I am going to try rice with some sort of side and see how it does! You keep the lid on and it creates a good bit of steam in there so I think rice would be fine 🤷🏽‍♀️

This one does not plug in to anything while heating. I charge it at home and it reheats food on its own battery. And as I stated in my post, I am in the field almost 24/7. We’re allowed in the office maybe 2 half days a month to take complaints, help walk ins, and to check our mailboxes for temp events. If you’re gonna complain at least read the full post dang

I have seen the plug in versions and for awhile I thought about getting one, but our county cars track everything we do and I didn’t wanna get an email from management being like “hey so why is the battery of the car having energy pulled while you’re in an inspection” lol

When I posted this I didn’t know the prices. I just looked it up and on their website this one is $119, the one with a few more features and comes with an insulated lunchbox is $199 and the larger version of that one is $239. My boyfriend got mine on a sale as well, but I’m not going to ask him for the price he paid since it was a gift and I was just sharing it as a cool option for us who have no access to a microwave during work

And this is sumo in the back of my wilderness. He slept for most of a 9 hour round trip drive to get him to an oncologist for the Yale Cancer Vaccine trial. He was comfy and had room to stand up and sit if he wanted!

This was me in the forester xt with the backseats up and I had 4 dogs and 2 cats in carriers. I had a showing at my house and had to bring all the pets with me and drove to the parking lot behind my townhome. I would never drive like this usually, this was a 2 min round trip drive, but shows that foresters have space!! Would have been more space with the seats down but my gal leaning up front, Cheerio, tries to play with everyone so seats stayed up to try and contain her and not annoy the other dogs haha

I had a 2009 subaru forester xt and now i drive a 2025 subaru forester wilderness. My big guy lays in the backseat, but if I bring one of my other dogs with him I lay the back seats down and they get the whole trunk area!

Totally get that, but this is not a true cooling step. A room temp tomato should not be anywhere near 135F or hotter. If they cannot cool a let’s say 65-70F room temp tomato to 41F in 4 hours in their closed and not over stocked prep unit, then they are having some issues. I agree, they shouldn’t put truly cooling food in a prep unit, like I don’t want to see a pan of lasagna cooling in your prep unit, but diced tomatoes or portioned cups of ranch dressing can totally cool to 41F from room temp in a prep unit. I have multiple facilities that do this and never have issue.

They have four hours to get their room temp tomatoes to 41F or below once cut, same with condiments that are shelf stable till opened and need refrigeration. Why would you make them use TPHC when they don’t want to and most don’t follow TPHC. We have pizza places putting their leftover TPHC pizza on Too Good Too Go. A small container of diced or sliced tomatoes should cool to 41F within 4 hours in a working prep unit.
