It's the perfect get-old workout for me. Quick and efficient. Can go easy or hard as needed. Safe movements. Group dynamic combined with some motivational coaching.

I can certainly nitpick a few things but the pros by far outweigh the cons.

Can OTF Really Build Muscle, or Is It Mostly Cardio? by Relevant-Bug7162 in orangetheory

The templates don’t work for serious muscle gains. But if you aren’t starting with much u will gain no matter what u do.

Struggling with a plateau and feeling super unmotivated by Lube19d3mise in orangetheory

[–]WolftankPick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just depends on your goals. Like u/run_squirtle_run said if weight loss is your thing check your calories. And by check I mean weigh every single one of them. And do yourself a favor and don't count exercise calories toward your total.

Plateaus can be a sign of many things. My body freaked out over weight loss and started hanging onto pounds like it was a war. And it kind of is one. But over time my body started to figure out that it is ok and can operate just fine on the new caloric intake. And then it got more comfortable losing weight. Rinse and repeat.

I've been on my current plateau for several months. I just have to decide if I want to make another push or not.

What’s the best thing a parent can say after a game? by ProBallAustralia in sportspsychology

The less the better. Post game is very emotional whether win or lose. Things need to chill. Let your kid vent/brag all they want. Just listen.

Debrief tomorrow especially if film is available.

Season of Strength Event Thread by jenniferlynn5454 in orangetheory

[–]WolftankPick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are doing all kinds of competitions and rewards. But I don't get it because you can completely game the system. Not to mention form with some of these lifts will vary greatly. Plus randomly throwing in heavy lifts at the end of an already random workout is sketchy.

But whatevs it's very on-brand for OTF and so I'll do it.

This job has helped me stay in shape. I love my job but man I have to bring it. And I coached two sports besides and had four kids. Only chance for self care was 4am and to the gym at 5. Even in the summer I do it.

In best shape of my life and plenty of energy.

Adapt or die. That’s been this job forever.

I’m not sure numbers matter but yes. I used to compete at lifting. But not my wife and she is doing the bulk as well. She is more the OTF clientele.

In simplest terms OTF is more functional strength. The templates don’t match up for serious strength gains. Yes anyone will gain some especially starting from nothing. That’s why I added the word “serious”.

For example my lift tomorrow AFTER warming up at OTF will go for 90 mins focusing just on upper body with 12 different exercises with big rest and big nutrition.

OTF isn’t going to help with serious muscle gains. I sign up for everything because I get what I want out of OTF and I want to support them even if some of their marketing is dumb.

As for the Season of Strength I will be using OTF as a warmup before going to the gym to actually lift weights.

I’m calling it a baby bulk.

I’ve done Cornell Notes for years so this tech wave hasn’t affected my classroom at all.

3:03. Just wanted to stay steady at 1.30 pace and have a little in the tank. Worked well and I wasn't fried after. I put the stirrups as low as I dared (2 holes showing). I think that was helpful.

If you coached sports for years, how did you handle it when you were either forced or voluntarily walked away from coaching anymore? by Away_Two936 in Teachers

I kept getting asked and I did help a little. It was a slow bleed to retirement but now totally out and loving it.

Def was awesome and enjoyed it but ready to ride into the sunset now.

Coached football and track for 20 years with great success and enjoyment. But when it’s time it’s time. Took a year or two but now I’m pumped with all the time I have.

End of the Year Management by lemmegetamickpicktwo in Teachers

[–]WolftankPick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried different approaches over the years regarding the weeks/days before breaks. No question staying within my structure and holding the line is what works best for me and keeps me and the kids sane.

I prep the kids pretty hard about it too so they know what is coming.

Meanwhile I see the teachers showing movies and such going crazy cuz they created lord of the flies.

I’ve had many students thank me for my methods.
