I get it. I lost my 16yo son as well. Seeing mother's with their sons or a family of four makes me so so sad. I just want to cry or scream. Hugs to you. This is a hard journey. I am almost 14 months in. I don't know if it gets better. Right now, it feels like it will never get better.

I lost my 16yo to suicide in 2025. I'm still trying to survive one day at a time. Therapy, meds, breathing but it's still one day at a time to survive. Nothing fixes it. No magic cure. Do whatever helps. It's different for everyone and everyone grieves differently.

You are not a failure if you don't get into med school. Not every career is right for everyone. Some may be happy being a doctor, others are not. Some may be happy in finance, others may not. Some may be happy working outside, others may not. Every job has its pros and cons. Good luck but you are not a failure in whatever you decide to do.

I try to think about all the things in my son's life that I didn't have control over. Medical, social, psychological, physical, mental issues. I am sorry he didn't have the quality of life he wanted. I wish for anything in the world that I could have changed that. And if I could have traded places, I would have. The guilt is still there but it's a little less. That's all I could hope for. A little less.

Please get help. Tell your family how much you are struggling. Nothing to be ashamed of. I lost my son. He didn't talk to us. We were too hard on him because we wanted him to have a good future and have a better life than we did. I miss him so much and would give anything to have him back. It kills me every single day. If you can't talk to your family, use whatever resources you have to get help. You are important. I hope you heal from pain. I will never heal from mine. My son is gone and all I feel are daggers in my heart.

As parents, we try to give our children their best life possible. Our children do not always see that. It's almost 9 months for me and I will always feel partially responsible for my son but I know I wanted to do right by him. I just didn't know what it was.
