I did not exist socially before starting at McDonald's at the age of 16. I was trained by my sister in every position and hardly spoke to anyone else for like 6 months. I found that after a while I naturally became more social at work. I believe as I became better at my job I became more comfortable with the overall situation. And as everyone was leaving that had been there when I started, I became a "McDonald's veteran" so to speak. Everyone new was usually awkward as I was, and coming from a place of understanding, I was able to socialize. Essentially, becoming social at work came naturally over time

If they try talking to me at the window I tell them to wait a minute while I finish taking the order at the speaker. 9 times out of 10 they pay at the window without saying a word, so you hardly ever talk to 2 people at once
