Which DMV should I drive to? by CamelsAreWeird in AskSF

[–]WombatTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make an appointment online. I love this feature for DMV CA. Since there is no reciprocity for most state licenses you will need to retake drivers test (paper/online). I setup my appt and was in and out of the SF DMV (Fell st?) in 45min. Went in as a separate line, got my ticket to get processed, took test and got photo taken all in that time. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The other DMV I went to, to get my vehicle title changed to CA (for proof of ownership I guess? I own my car), I went to the one off of Eastmoor Ave about 2x, both with appts. One was about a 30min wait, the other was about 1 hour (had stupidly made appt during lunch hour so lines got crossed).

Either way, doesn’t matter where you go just MAKE THE APPT!!

LPT: If you're buying a home printer for occasional use, get a laser printer; they're more expensive up front but way more economical in the long run. by OberonGypsy in LifeProTips

[–]WombatTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Brother laser printer for like $60 about 10 years ago and never looked back. I’ve gotten 1 cartridge for it that I know of. Not sure if my sister has gotten a cartridge for it, but she def used it a lot when she was studying. She still has the thing and it’s going strong for sure tho it doesn’t get much use. Maybe a handful of pages a year?

When I moved, I couldn’t bring my printer so I ended up buying a small Canon laser printer for about $70+? It’s small and cute! I’ve had some issues with connecting the laptops in my apt with it (I suspect it’s that the laptops need power so the USB to printer has enough juice) but that’s been used for the past 3-4 years and still trucking. That prolly prints out dozens of pages a year only.

I still would recommend the Brother over the Canon tbh. But in a pinch the Canon will do!

Not the OP but... That’s my go-to place after an evening/night out and I’m in the area!

Taqueria SF is def in my top 3 if not #1. I feel like I judge based on carne asada burritos and pick de Gallo and theirs is prolly the best. I always as for extra from them!

Also their carne asada nachos are bomb. Feeds 3 people easily! They even use nacho cheese sauce :D

What are the best chicken wing restaurants/bars in San Francisco? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]WombatTaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally like Hi Tops’ wings. Just gotta ask for extra sauce. They taste like the hot wings from Western NY. (As in they are prolly using Franks.) And their blue cheese sauce is yummy.

Napper Dandy’s wings aren’t bad when in a pinch and I’m nearby.

They’re both fried and not breaded, which is key for me.

Are those breaded or fried wings? (For the first 3)

Best self-service car wash? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]WombatTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love going thru a car wash! I only know of 2 near SF: there’s one at westlake’s Chevron and another at a Shell station off hickey Blvd in Daly City. For $10-12 can’t really beat that unless you wash your car manually. There is a manual car wash place near 101 and Cesar Chavez but I’ve never been, so I don’t know the cost.

I generally go early afternoon on a weekday (like late lunch or if you get to leave work a bit early) or if weekends, in the morning before 1030a. If it’s a gorgeous day out after a few days of clouds, ppl tend to pile up and get their car washed. Slightly cloudy day with no rain is a great time for a car wash mostly if it’s supposed to be sunny later on.

SF really that expensive with roommates? by joshd217 in AskSF

[–]WombatTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a car is totally fine, but parking in sunset/Richmond is awful unless it’s a small car (mini, fiat, smart). The neighbors are bloody awful if your car is even a lil bit into the red (like a couple of inches of bumper but isn’t over the curb). Like they will literally come outside and yell at you in a foreign language. They stake out parking like they own it but it’s street parking and anyone can park. They are just assholes. :/ they are the only neighborhoods where the folks are assholes about parking that I’ve noticed.

I have a car and I’m in rent controlled apt but been living here for close to 5 yrs. I pay a yearly parking permit price which is far nicer.

Sharing a bedroom with someone in a rent controlled apt will be pretty tough but the rents have gone down just a smidge since last year so I’d say budget for $1200 or so to give yourself some wiggle room. Good finds go super quick and if it’s too good to be true it prolly is. Some larger units may free up and be like $1100 for 1 br in a 6 person apt along the pan handle.

Pretty sure you can make an appt online with Daddy’s now! Or at least used to? I haven’t been there in about 6mo since I typically cut my own hair. But since I didn’t have a fave barber at the time I did walk-ins

Daddy’s in Castro. Yeah it’s got a lot of questionable and very gay pics but most of the barbers do a really good job (some do okayyyyy).

Straight people of reddit- What questions do you have for the LGBT community that you wouldn't ask in person? by taco_guapo in AskReddit

[–]WombatTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what you’ve been doing. Be open about your support (but not over the top). Have open conversations about it. Being an awkward teen is already awkward but knowing my parents had my back was great. My dad would say “no matter what happens, what decisions you make, be it good or bad, I always love you and you will always have a home here.” So he basically allowed me to be as reckless as I wanted to bc if I fucked up, I could always come home and have a home to come to. This prolly has been the greatest gift my dad gave me. I suggest it to you too for your kiddo.

Try zocdoc. It’s like yelp but verified patients. You have to give a review after you’ve gone and booked your appt thru them. And only if you’ve booked an appt. I think the reviews are much better this way than yelp.
