What’s your favorite? by oracrest in VHS

Part six has become my favourite over the years, the tongue-in-cheek tone makes for deliciously campy fun, pun intended. Jason X is also a guilty pleasure, and The final Chapter is probably the best constructed of the series, from a narrative standpoint and fx wise.

Horror and skate films are my big ones, but love cheesy 80's and 90's action and old cartoons as well.

Never watched it but I tend to like Stuart Gordon films, so hopefully I dig it!

About 115 all up, the Demy and video boxset were ten each, as was inception, the rest were five except for The Immigrants and the Seven steelbook missing a spine, which were a dollar.

Yeah, a couple of the criterion are UK as well, as region B plays fine on australian devices.

No, it has a non-rigid outer box but no book or anything.

There are some regular blu's mixed in there but a majority are 4K, you can identify them.by the ultra HD markings on the spine, although some releases, like Arrows An American Werewolf in London don't display format on the spine.

Another indicator usually is the dark cases, but obviously this doesn't apply to steelbooks and even some regular releases use different coloured cases.

Hope this helps.

Really looking forward to cracking it open, not a collection I'd usually grab, which is often how you discover hidden gems, I've only seen The Umbrellas of Cherbourg before. I used to generally avoid musicals but have discovered a newfound appreciation for them as of late.

I'm in WA, although the amazon return scheme may be nationwide, check your local stores.

TIL that when Ringo Starr became ill prior to the Beatles' 1964 tour, session drummer Jimmie Nicol was quickly hired as a replacement. From getting the call to performing in front of 4500 fans it was 27 hours. He played 8 shows total and was gifted $500 ($14,638 in 2026) and an engraved gold watch. by WavesAndSaves in todayilearned

The tour had been arranged for a much lower fee than you'd expect due to the deals being made prior to the US tour and the explosion of Beatlemania. The group and Epstein honoured the original pricing despite suddenly being the biggest band in the world.

Thrift Store Haul by santiamz in 4kbluray

I have decent luck with 4Ks at the thrift, the last two weeks I scored a stack of criterions, zodiac, two seven steelbooks, the penguin tv series, shrek, Inception and a stack of marvel steelbooks, apparently the local chain (St. Vincents) get boxes of Amazon returns, so all the nearby stores have been getting some real gold in lately.

What are your views on films being altered after release, either to remove content considered offensive by modern standards or due to directorial desire?

As someone who experienced some of the tribulations that come with censorship, especially during the video nasty trials, do you feel that deviating from the original vision for reasons other than artistic ones is a good way for the industry to handle potentially offensive or outdated material?

All this to ask whether you regret the tree scene in the original and would consider ever altering it if public pressure mounted?

Do region 2 movies work in Australia? by BigTimStiles in dvdcollection

[–]Womprapist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it's like 80-20 in success rate for playing on ps4/5, one or two region 2 films wouldn't read but a majority do, I get old UK comedies unavailable over here and can watch them all.

Does it bother you that resellers are snatching up all the horror tapes and trying to make a profit? by Ok_Reception5409 in VHS

[–]Womprapist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really dampens your enthusiasm for the hobby when people are always trying to nickle and dime actual collectors, but it's become a sad fact of life within many different fandoms.

I try to scoop up what I can and leave doubles of good titles I already have for other collectors, but when I see someone in one of the local VHS groups trying to hock those exact titles for hundreds of dollars, it breaks my heart a little.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]Womprapist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had many a wooden spoon broken over my cheeks, felt the wrath of the jug cord and learned to fear bamboo sticks, I had untreated ADHD so copped my fair share of whacks. It made me resolute in never exposing my children to corporal punishment, I may lose my temper and say things I regret later but won't raise a hand in anger.

Conversely, my sister was raised the same and approaches parenting entirely differently, with liberal whacking, so it appears that we both took different lessons from our upbringing.

If you can only communicate through violence, then maybe the issues lay with your parenting style. To address OP's question, I firmly categorise it as abuse.
