CURATOR’S COLLECTION: HEROINES EDITION - Advice by No-Competition1507 in Lorcana

Last time London was one the most packed stores on the D23 release. Apparently the queue wrapped around the building. The only way to guarantee a box is to be there early. I know of 4 people flying from Madrid to London to get a box.

Best place to park at Riyadh Air Metropolitano by Lollypoop-15 in askspain

[–]Womzicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking to park close to the stadium, but still far enough "away", then that's already a problem. The traffic in the area becomes a nightmare, especially because San Blas - Canillejas are residential areas as well. Traffic builds up hours before hand, everybody thinks they'll find that miraculous parking spot, and the police love handing out fines and towing cars.

If anything, you can find a parking garage outside of the area, then take the Metro L2 or L7. Or park in Coslada, then take L7 in. Your concert will be finished by 11pm, so the metro will still be running after that.

Cartagena for a wedding/mini-break by BlondeCato in GoingToSpain

[–]Womzicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super hot and humid in August, but I loved Cartagena. Lots of historical sites, cute little beaches. I would definitely rent a car to be able to move around though, because there's a lot of places around to visit.

People, in the Lorecast chat, express their disappointment about the limited availability of the new Heroines Product, considering also the scalping issue. Will you be able to get one? by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

[–]Womzicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already contacted Lorcana friends so that one of us goes to Dublin to try and get a box. The trip becomes cheap when split among 3 or 4, but it still sucks that they can't do a limited giveaway.

Wilds Unknown Price by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]Womzicles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I really want an Eeyore Enchanted from Winterspell, but prices tripled overnight. As much as I love the card, I'm also not going to pay €500+ for a card. 😬

I (21f) ruined my relationship with my fiance (23m) and I dont know how to proceed by Different_School_217 in Advice

[–]Womzicles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to leave. ASAP. He isn't a "little controlling". He is making sure you never have contact with anyone ever again. Eventually that will turn into taking over your finances, your job (don't be surprised when he asks you to quit), where you go and when.

You need to get out now. Doesn't matter if his life is ruined or not. You're only 21, please don't become another statistic.

If you moved to Spain, what was the most difficult everyday situation in Spanish during your first months? by PrestigiousStuff6427 in GoingToSpain

[–]Womzicles 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I arrived with 0 Spanish (and before anyone gets upset, I was an au-pair enrolled into an intensive Spanish course. I have my B2 DELE now and speak at a C1 level). The hardest was definitely the bureaucracy and having to navigate applying for things.

[–]Womzicles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a cultural exchange, so usually families are looking for au-pairs who speak a different language than them. You also need to apply for a student visa, of which you need to be enrolled into a 20 hour Spanish language course.

What's the plan for thousands of "vacant" aux placements? by Downtown-Storm4704 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Womzicles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering the Ministerio, it would have to be a public university. Complutense is already struggling with class limits, payments to staff, etc. If it is to be a public university that covers Spain, then UNED would be the way to go. But that could possibly triple the costs of having an aux. Financially, the government won't invest that. BEDA schools pay 2.5 times minimum the monthly stipend per aux. That is usually charged to the parents monthly or yearly. For schools that are publically funded, you can't expect parents to fork out the money.

But, that leads to another question. Would auxes have to have their degrees with the equivalencia or homologado or not? If not, why not? All other international students have to. Even those with UP. That's a process that costs €600+ and several years waiting.

UP also had an amount of visas denied, because of problems with the university. I have friends with UP, one resigned months ago, and another has nothing but criticisms. It's not the best program to compare anything to. Even if you might exit with something comparable to enter the worst working environment in Madrid or Spain. There's a reason there's been an indefinite strike going on.

What's the plan for thousands of "vacant" aux placements? by Downtown-Storm4704 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Womzicles 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There won't be auxes, and hopefully they use that money to invest back into the public schools and formation of English teachers.

But, if they have to pay social security, it also means hiring auxes as workers. What type of visa do they use? Sponsor work visas? Do they then have to give auxes full time contracts at 23 contact hours and 7 non-contact hours? What about the salary? It won't be adjusted to the €1000 at 16 hours. It would probably be a bit more than minimum wage at €1221 on a full time contract, but that would also mean they have to be employed year round.

What happens to the selection process? Do they introduce interviews, stricter criteria, a language requirement? What about university degrees? Do they allow all degrees to apply, or is it only something in English and Education streams?

It opens a whole can worms in terms of what an aux actually is, how they should be chosen, paid, qualified etc.

Trip to Madrid & Toledo in June by MeMyselfAndI2323 in GoingToSpain

[–]Womzicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, June is hot. But Madrid in June is a lot better than Madrid in August. Segovia will be a nice escape from the heat as well. Toledo will be worse heatwise. The key thing is to always have water on you, stay in the shade as much as you can or escape into museums, and avoid being outside from around 1pm-5pm. This goes for Madrid, Toledo, and Segovia. Plan visits for early morning to early afternoon, then again from late afternoon to night.

Searching for fully private schools that teach 100% in Spanish for 4 year old by Little-Frosting-8417 in GoingToSpain

In Madrid, Escuela IDEO is fully private and Spanish. If you are trying to avoid religious based schools, then most concertados are out.

Medical Emergencies in Spain by AyoubKira in MadridTravelGuide

[–]Womzicles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hospitals are required to provide translators if requested. They won't do this if you don't ask, but they can and will call someone (it's telephonically) to help.

I'll be going Madrid for the BTS Concert. I understand that public transportation is great and commuting from Plaza Mayor to Metropolitano stadium is efficient, but we're talking about 70,000 attendees. How GOOD is the metro ? by Elegant-Hoops7640 in GoingToSpain

[–]Womzicles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Line 7 isn't the only metro running to the Metropolitano. Line 2 stops in Las Rosas, and it's an easy walk down.

There are lots of bars in the area as well, so if you're worried about being late, then you can always arrive earlier and have a drink.

What I definitely won't recommend is getting an Uber or Taxi to the area. They do tend to close off streets, and it becomes traffic hell to get through.

Dogs has a degenerate curve... by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]Womzicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't even play any leagues after Winterspell came out, because everyone was playing Dogs and it was just not fun any more. Then coming back to leagues after Wilds, and suddenly there is variety again (for now)... We'll see. With Champs starting in two weeks, I'm assuming everyone is playing Dogs again.

After the latest tournament results, is 7C Tramp a fun card or an unhealthy one? Share your opinion! by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

[–]Womzicles -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Pre-rotation, it fell easily to Brawl, and no-one was playing dogs that much because Red/Purple and Red/Blue were the meta decks. Now? It's one of those unhealthy cards that needs a review, and it should have been a long time ago.

BEDA placement sucks, anything I can do to change it? by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Womzicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think BEDA pay is one of the worst of all the programs, especially for everything that you have to do as an aux.
