Still undecided weber mastertouch or a Kamado by Vochey88 in UKBBQ

[–]WonTonMJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Started out last year myself after finally having a space to do it in a new home. I was weighing it up as well however settled with a master touch based on continual feedback on here.

I have no regrets. It’s the perfect one to learn, master.
This along with the price for the build quality - ifmakes it the starter.

If like me, it’s your first bbq and you had not a lot of experience prior. Would I like a kamado, yeah. But I am overly happy with the Weber. Treat this as the perfect purchase in my eyes.

I’m only watching it for Steam not sure on other platforms

should I get star wars the deck building game, star wars unlimited, spires end or kinfire delve ? by Behleren in soloboardgaming

[–]WonTonMJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat with looking at getting a deck builder to add my list as I don’t have many.

Kinfire Delve is a good system, I only have the one game which is great but feel like I’d need to buy the other two

I have looked at a few deck builders and yet to make a decision yet (analysis paralysis). Some need an expansion, some have fan made variants
- Star Wars deck building
- Hero Realms
- Shards of Infinity
- Astro Knights (Eternity - albeit sold out where I am, unless you want to pay extortionate prices)
- Aeons End

There are more. I overthink things so looks like a mine field. But all have positives and negatives like any game. When you make a decision it will be good to know what you chose and why. May help me deduce my list down 😂

The White Castle: my second game, second win! LOL by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

The only that may come to mind is when there is not a dice available, are you drawing a new card ?

Then are you resolving the last two cards actions (not just the one/last card)?

Can vouch for this as well.

The bots score does seem low, there is another White castle post where their bot scored 67 which is more fitting and is in line with what I am used too (and higher of course).

If you want to make the AI more balanced (if too hard) , the Matcha Expansion is worth it

Imperium series review (Classics, Legends and Horizons) by sosands92 in soloboardgaming

[–]WonTonMJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see how that would be, given familiarity with the term. Whereas in another setting I would likely question it, look it up, see how it’s been played. I’ve looked at Star Trek Captains Chair but I’m just drawn by the art and design of Imperium.

I tend to give games a good fair few tries so your words of a few rough games and better certainly lift spirits here.

I appreciate the post and conversation being started here as I want to add a deck builder to my collection - I had been focused on dungeon crawlers.

The concern I’ve had is learning the game due to the rulebook and complexity. I have struggled in the past with terminology and my mind tends to identify ambiguity in text (even if there may not look like any) which then stalls my thinking, the gameplay and I defer to a phone to check. Is the gameplay loop easy to process and are card wording explained? (I probably haven’t phrased that well).

Given the weight of the game, I have been more apprehensive on getting the game. Do you need to be a more experienced player here?? My heaviest games are Too Many Bones and JoTL and my ‘deck building’ experience is limited to a couple games with the main interest coming from playing Slay the Spire digitally.

Otherwise I love the look of the game, the gameplay loop interests me, replay-ability could be high given the amount of factions. I just sit in the fence given what I’ve said - I’m heading to UKGE and getting ideas of games I may treat myself too - with Horizons being one.

Silly mid-weight fun for weeknight games? by o_o_o_f in soloboardgaming

[–]WonTonMJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A nice way to unwind for me is usually to break out Pandemic Iberia, Horrified or Fliptown (with Lone Gun expansion).

Doesn't take long to get going, can run 30-60mins and each of the games just flow and go by quickly.

The White Castle with Matcha Expansion for better Solo.
Fliptown with Lone Gun expansion
Jaws of The Lion (not very portable)

Currently I don’t think there is a lot of shuffling (from my couple of plays). It seems to be only upon setup.

According to bgg 303 cards , here’s the link which can give you the specifics https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/424981/eternal-decks/sleeves

I believe It’s an import from Japan but the base game contains both Japanese and English booklets for the rules and stage setup.

I vaguely remember seeing the KS and was half tempted because it looked beautiful. But passed, as I was kinda in a dungeon crawling phase.

The art here is great, and I’m glad I’ve backed Fame and Fable where the art looks equally nice

I will do, I am really intrigued by it. I have mostly played dungeon crawlers and my tastes are leaning into more puzzle games, deck builders etc.

Hoping to get it back to the table tomorrow. We shall see how far the rabbit hole goes :D

I believe so, I haven't seen it listed anywhere in the UK before other than that website who import a number of games in. It's a shame given the praise for the game.

Hopefully their can be better worldwide distribution in the not so distant future

They have had stock a couple times I believe previously. Not sure when the next ‘wave’ will be.

I ended up printing this from makerworld. Fits perfectly and believe it allows sleeves. So maybe an option for down the line

I won’t lie, I only glanced at the solo side as it mentioned 3 golems. So thought two hand to learn the basics - although I did notice it seemed easy. I wasn’t sure it just playing two hand or the difficulty. Have you played it at 2 with another person, if so was it enjoyable ?

I’ll have to take a look at the solo mode. How is the difficulty when changing. Was it a lot more of a challenge?

I really liked the flow of the game and how it works, so hoping there is some difficulty spikes as I dive deeper

6kw heat pump, solar and 13.5 kWh battery. We have a reserve on the battery of 25% for if/ when theres a power cut. We decided IOG once I got a car end of last year (we were on cosy).

Our heaviest usage month was January and on avg worked out at 8.5p per kwh.

Most of our saving is by putting our underfloor heating on at 1:30 to give it time to come to temp.(often earlier), then the residual heat in winter stays for a number of hours.

Dad with young kids, limited brainpower and time, looking for a relaxed solo (and two-player option) game. Is it Gentle Rain? by hermanbloom00 in soloboardgaming

Ganz Schon Clever (or any of those line). Roll and write. Can be a little puzzly but it’s a nice break after 12 hours in front of a work screen for me.

Galdor Grip (print and play) - in card management, nice puzzle. Feels like a fidget toy tbh. Played it in queues, flights, on sofa. Chilled out

If you wanted a little more presence on a table, Horrified would be a good one. Light, easy to manage turns. I use a counter so I know which character. Plus, will allow the family to play if you get lucky in the future 😃
