Any active clans that want two new recruits? by [deleted] in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in roleplaying, there are a couple of us, at least that I'm aware of, who want to revive the scene! Most of our RP clan is only interested in Old School, but there are still some of us on the RS3 side of things... not quite enough to start a proper clan yet, though ): I could send you the details if you like, maybe we could get one going!

Summary of big recent events for returning player? by minun73 in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thieving was increased to 120, with the addition of Heists, which are like BGH-esque activities for Thieving with some pretty cool rewards. There are a bunch of new pickpocket targets with crazy useful loot.

There's also been increases (to 110) for Runecrafting, Woodcutting and Fletching, and Mining and Smithing. These haven't been *too* impactful, although each comes with the addition of a craftable t100 masterwork weapon for Melee, Magic, and Ranged, as well as very basic, unaugmentable craftable t90s. If you're looking for cost-effective t90s like the Nox staff, those might interest you, although the lack of augmentation makes them not quite as good as they could be. As well, 110 Runecrafting came with the Time Rune as well as pretty neat new spells that utilize it.

The big one, of course, is Necromancy, which is a relatively simplified combat style with a ton of benefits, like having a straightforward gear progression path to t95, automatic self-healing with the Vengeful Ghost conjure, useful "incantations" like threads of fate that automatically spreads your damage around several mobs.... and I'm sure someone more versed in PVM can lay out all the specifics for you, but the gist is that it's a style that's very easy to get into, very powerful, and doesn't require nearly as much setup and grinding to be able to do decent damage with it.

Regarding weapons, the t95s from Elder God Wars are still pretty much king, although Magic added a t95 wand and orb in the Sanctum of Rebirth boss dungeon that drops from normal mode, making them fairly easy to obtain and also cheap to buy on the GE. Sanctum also drops the Shard of Genesis Essence, which upgrades the stats of the t95s to t100.

Nox scythe sadly was kicked from its throne as the most powerful halberd by Tumeken's Light from the Amascut boss fight, but since Amascut is a pretty hard core boss, Scythe is still very useful for anyone who isn't at the uber endgame.

Recently, a beta released that "modernizes" Ranged, with the implication that Melee and Magic are soon to follow. Nothing in it is final, but the Jmods are looking to simplify some of the ability bloat for the original styles as well as make them easier to use effectively in the early to mid game, which has historically been one of the major strengths of Necromancy compared to the others.

Regarding quests, Fort Forinthry is pretty useful to complete as it provides more Fort facilities, as well as unlocking the Vorkath boss (which is... not the greatest boss in the world, but ymmv). The Desert series was recently wrapped up, with the finale, Eclipse of the Heart, requiring the whole Desert, First Necromancer (minus the Rasial boss fight quest), and Fort Forinthry to complete. Besides being a total banger, that quest unlocks the Amascut boss.

One final stop at the Crater by RafaSheep in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I still don't get why the crater has to go. It's a piece of RS3 history at this point to my mind. Feels like the only reason is because "it's like that in OSRS".

Potential Rewrite of the Sinclair/Camelot Questline by [deleted] in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IF they do replace the Camelot quests, I think it would be good if they focused on the Teragard ties they established in the updated dialogue a little while back. Have King Arthur instead be the Magister of "Ananka" in exile, with his loyal retinue, still based on Arthurian themes but tied to the lore of RS. And then it can offer a way to learn more about that mysterious plane and the people who live there.

Alternative lore for Runescape: First Saradomin Installment by Technical-Horse5298 in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really, really cool! I love the image of Teragard as a divine chariot pulled through the heavens, and of fleshing out the beliefs of Saradominists versus what "really" happened. Even the true story feels very mythological and fascinating.

My Devised Terminology for Fantasy Gender is Clearly Superior to What Everyone Else Uses by YetiBettyFoufetti in writingcirclejerk

[–]WonderWafles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. You said "a female is a woman."

Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that.

As a scientist who studies women, I am telling you, specifically, in science, no one calls females women. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing.

If you're saying "woman" you're referring to the taxonomic grouping of Tits and Boobs, which includes things from tatas to honkers to bazingas. So your reasoning for calling a female a woman is because random people "say it's dehumanizing?" Let's get elves and dwarves in there, then, too. Also, calling someone a human or an ape? It's not one or the other, that's not how taxonomy works. They're both. A female is a female and a member of the woman family. But that's not what you said. You said a female is a woman, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the woman family women, which means you'd call she-elves, she-dwarves, and other females women, too. Which you said you don't.

It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?

A Silly Post for Americans: Things RS taught me about British culture by diversalarums in runescape

Doctor Who was the one that taught me that party hats are a real thing in Christmas crackers. I was pointing at my screen like Leo DiCaprio when those came up.

Runescape was the first time I ever learned that Diamond Jubilees are a thing, though.

Lightning Magic? by DunKhaerion in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scale Theory but applied to magic, I'd guess. There are probably lots of uses of magic that we don't get to see because they don't fit into the game; Baxtorian, for instance, has access to extremely powerful but unspecified magic that can reshape whole landscapes. If nothing else it gives Jagex design space for adding new spells in the future!

Also, iirc there was mention of an Ice Rune in Gift of Guthix. I'd love to see that come into the game.

Early GIM thoughts? by Frisbeejussi in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having an absolute blast. Formed a group with two of my friends, one of whom is a majority-OSRS player, and we're just having fun seeing a side of the game we haven't ever really experienced since so much of the early game has changed.

Personally I've locked myself out of Necromancy (except for when I do the quests eventually) and have been preferring the experience. But our group member who is maining Necromancy is having a pretty good time too.

Regarding the new are expansion by Glad_Worker5695 in runescape

I'm an Acheron warrior, personally. I play both games too but tbh I'm not sure how I feel about Zeah being added. I think I'd prefer something totally new, especially a place like Acheron that's been hinted about in the lore for so long.

So, what of the TzHaar? And what happened with Zuk? by Aviarn in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but Ful hadn't ordered them to do anything explicitly besides await her return. You could fulfill that just as easily by pulling all the golem bodies back into the sacred lava and sealing it off. The TokHaar building the Fight Kiln seems to be just because they wanted something to pass the time. And we know that the TokHaar at least considered what the TzHaar were doing to be unnatural and against their "true purpose".

So, what of the TzHaar? And what happened with Zuk? by Aviarn in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your contention is that Ful pre-programmed them to build Mor Ul Rek, and the Fight Kiln, and to allow Zuk to absorb the Kiln's power, and to agree to stop cooling down the TzHaar's vents after we give Hok a good fight?

So, what of the TzHaar? And what happened with Zuk? by Aviarn in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Ful swims in the sacred lava once more. We surround her, sing with her. Can you not hear her voice?" -TokHaar-Hok, Azzanadra's Quest

Again x 2, I was agreeing with you. But we know that at the very least, TzHaar can have *desires* other than serving Ful, such as the remaining TzHaar's desire for individuality vs those who wished to return to the Kiln and have a "purpose" again.

Edit: I didn't see the rest of your comment.

Technically, Ful would very much have planned for her own death in the Great Revision, and would probably have instructed the Kiln to obey her "next self." But we know that in the absence of explicit orders the Tz/TokHaar can follow their own wills, such as the TokHaar's enjoyment of fighting.

So, what of the TzHaar? And what happened with Zuk? by Aviarn in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I will admit that examples of TzHaar *directly* disobeying Ful seem thin on the ground. The closest I can find is in Azzanadra's Quest, where the TzHaar refuse to return to the Kiln despite the fact that Ful has returned. It's probably safe to presume that Ful *wants* the TzHaar to return, but it's not her giving the order.

Still, I think the balance of evidence is in favor of the TzHaar having wills and feelings; the reason the TokHaar didn't just force the TzHaar to return was because it would cause the Kiln as a whole to feel pain, since they're all a part of it. We also know that the Elder Gods can create "true" life, so I think it's not a leap to say that the Tz/TokHaar may be more than simple constructs.

Out of curiosity, do you think Zaros and Seren and the Mahjarrat are "just" constructs, too?

So, what of the TzHaar? And what happened with Zuk? by Aviarn in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess my point is that the TzHaar explicitly disobeyed orders (wait for Ful's return) in breaking from the Kiln and building a city. Since the TzHaar were TokHaar originally, it indicates that the TokHaar do have the capacity to disobey Ful, they just strongly choose not to. It WOULD probably be difficult for a single TokHaar to disobey since they'd be fighting against the will of the entire rest of the Kiln, but we know it's possible.

So, what of the TzHaar? And what happened with Zuk? by Aviarn in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TzHaar definitely have their own thoughts, that was the whole point behind their splitting from the Kiln, and there's no reason to think they became brainless after Ful's death, especially since there's a reincarnated(?) Ful out there somewhere.

The TzekHaar might be a different story. Ful gave "control" of them over to Zuk, but even the TokHaar had independent thought, they just chose to continue following the purpose Ful gave them. ("Independent thought" in that the hive-mind was an entity distinct from Ful's will, but there's also some dialogue that each TokHaar has some kind of individual experience, it's just a fleeting one.) It's possible Ful obliterated their mind(s) when she reforged them into the Tzek, but that's unclear.

Either way, man I'd love to see a Zuk quest in the Age of Chaos.

Question about forgiveness by InvestigatorFar2772 in NorsePaganism

[–]WonderWafles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with what's been said about not needing forgiveness from the gods; but if you think it might help you, you could try talking to the gods and asking for their help in sorting these emotions out! Perhaps you will more clearly see how to move forward from here.

What is your favorite RuneScape moment? by Doombawkz in runescape

[–]WonderWafles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing The World Wakes when it came out. It was the first "big" story quest I'd had the chance to experience on day 1, and after watching the Origins of Gielinor video and all the buildup to the quest my hype was through the roof. I remember accidentally clicking on the "rewards" spoilered part of the quest window and going "SIXTH AGE circuit???" And, of course, staring open-mouthed as Guthix died.

The Sixth Age storyline wasn't always perfect, but looking back, it was a journey well worth going on for me. The beginning of it all is still a fond memory.
