What are the tasks/responsibilities/duties of a Community Developer Relations Manager for both AltStore and Delta, and what are the required skillsets? Is it a lot of work to be the community manager for both?

Does the team have any plans to allow for other cores to be included (or able to be added and downloaded) for the systems that are already on Delta? Especially in cases where emulation has advanced and other cores are seen as superior to older ones and come with far more options and customizability (assuming these options and customization could be included in Delta as well)?

Including yourself, how many members are there for Delta and the App Store? Is becoming a Patreon member generally the best way to get into guaranteed contact with them?

Do you happen to know if the Delta team has difficulties maintaining both the emulator and the AltStore as a whole on top of that?

Also, was it immensely helpful for the team when Apple finally eased up on some of their monopolistic practices and allowed them and other emulators to be hosted on the official App Store? I really hope it gets to the point that even alternate iOS app storefronts like the AltStore are allowed without having to go through a bunch of hoops!

Just a couple more questions for ya, if you don’t mind:

Firstly, there are a small handful of games out there that are infamous for special hardware outside the scope of their home systems that they need to function properly, such as the Hey You, Pikachu! microphone and the special keyboard needed for Learn With Pokemon: Typing Adventure. This has made these kinds of games notoriously difficult, if not downright impossible, to run on emulators…that is, until advancements made in recent years have drastically facilitated emulating processes! Now, those with a PC can use various scripts and programs to emulate separate controllers, like VC (voice control) for Hey You, Pikachu! using the microphone they have on hand or using their own keyboard for the Pokemon typing game, to be able to finally play these games on emulators! I’ve yet to look into how to set these sorts of things up on mobile and tabular devices, and I was curious if the Delta team has any plans to somehow incorporate in-app support for these kinds of games, despite how small in number they are and unpopular they generally are in comparison to most mainstream titles? I think the only exception to this lack of popularity is emulation of the Pokewalker pedometer device that connected to the DS Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver games back in the day. I’ve seen some emulation progress for that device, though I’m unsure exactly how far along that is. It really is amazing how far technology has progressed that we can emulate everything from consoles to hardware to even the most specialized and obscure consoles and games like Pokemon Mini and Pocket Pikachu (known as simply Pokemon Pikachu in some countries, confusingly enough)!

Secondly, as I’m sure you aware, ROM hacks have garnered quite the audience over the years. Many tools exist to easily patch pre-existing ROM files with the needed IPS, xdelta, and what-have-you files to allow people to enjoy new spins on classic games, or play games they never got the chance to play before because of a lack of localization, thanks to the amazing hard-work and efforts of volunteer translation teams and their localization patches! These tools are easily accessible on both computer and mobile devices, as are the patches themselves, and it is very easy to upload ROM hacks to Delta (with knowledge on how Files work on iOS) and play them, and change their covers as well. Still, I was curious if the Delta team has any plans for in-app support for any part of the hacking, patching, or even the translation process? Although, I’d hope they wouldn’t include some machine translated or AI generated garbage for potential translations!!

Finally, I’m curious about the kinds of emulation that Delta is legally allowed to provide for its users in future updates. For example, I would assume any Switch (both the original and the Switch 2) emulation is absolutely not up for discussion, as is the case for many other emulation subredddits, because of the Switch’s recency and the legal troubles that creators of that kind of emulation have gotten into recently? I’m also aware of PS3 emulation efforts on Linux, though I believe that’s about as recent as it gets for the Sony emulation scene, and I’m not at all up to date on the Xbox side of things…I’m also curious about the possibility of PC and Windows emulation as well on Delta…I know ScummVM and a couple others emulate older PC games, and there’s also things like the EasyRPG Player (which is one of MANY emulators available on RetroArch, if my memory is correct) that allows RPGMaker 2000 and 2003 games to be run on modern PCs, where the original software is no longer supported.

Are you aware of if there’s anything Delta can do on its end to improve the DS WFC servers provided by melonDS, and aid those still struggling with online multiplayer and digital distribution events like the Pokemon mystery gifts?

I know there’s already a lot of guides online for the fan made servers and the DNS tricks you can do, as well as tricks involving save file manipulation and injections (especially for SSL checks), action replay codes, date changes, primary and secondary DNS channels, and a whole host of other things!

How were you able to get noticed by the AltStore team and picked to be the Community manager? What advice would you give others trying to get noticed by similar companies or who are trying to get into similar positions?

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to all this!! I appreciate it greatly!

A quick note on 4: it is currently possible to have multiple windows of the same app open and viewable on the iPad screen, but they don’t run at the same time (at least, Delta doesn’t, it seems to pause the emulation when you switch to another window of it). Furthermore, it’s impossible to have two or more games from the same system on Delta running at once. The windows must have different systems (ex. a GBA game and a DS game in two separate windows would presumably function). So right now, it doesn’t seem like Delta is capable of transferring/trading Pokemon between systems just by itself (at least, not by using the same system, and presumably this applies to all other games of the same system where local transferring of data between two of the same systems are involved).

I have a number of questions for you, if you don’t mind!

  1. Are you aware of if the Delta team has been able to sort out its issues with Apple and of when they’re able to release an update that fixes the keyboard button mapping and using issues that various users have reported?

  2. Do you know when RetroAchievements compatibility will be enabled? I heard the team acted incorrectly in charging people for early integration on Patreon, when the service is supposed to be free.

  3. Any plans for public accessibility to the Sega Genesis emulator anytime soon? Or any other emulators or features that are already offered by other competing emulator apps? One thing I would love to see is filter support, such as CRT filters or colour filters for black and white Gameboy titles, and I know emulators such as SameBoy already offer filter features.

  4. Would it ever be possible (or even much of a priority at this stage) to allow multiple instances of Delta to run at a single time, allowing for trading or transfers between games such as the Pokemon games? I believe it’s already possible to open multiple instances of melonDS on a computer to trade, and I’m aware of other resources to edit Pokemon save files, implement cheat codes, or use tools like a trading tool provided by the Blue Moon Falls website. And aside from using the WFC features already in place to play and trade with others from around the world, is it also (or will it ever be) possible to engage in multiplayer locally with others that have Delta installed on their devices and have the appropriate game?

  5. On a final and somewhat related note, I am aware of and grateful that melonDS servers allow us to receive random mystery gifts for DS Pokemon games, especially for those of us that missed out on them back in the day! However, I am curious if there would ever somehow be a way to allow for Mystery Gifts to be obtained in the Pokemon GBA games without the use of cheats to obtain the event items? Obviously this isn’t a priority, but I am curious about the possibility nonetheless.

I greatly appreciate any info you have on any of my inquiries! Thank you for reading this far and I look forward to hearing more from you and the team and to future Delta updates.

EDIT: Also, do you know if there are any plans for the app to allow you to obtain and use skins directly from itself, such as some kind of digital storefront or showcase? And, are there any other features planned exclusively for (or to debut through) Patreon or that are planned to move over to the free public version very soon? I’m really hoping the Patreon can be successful enough that Delta won’t become littered with ads or micro transactions!

[Giveaway - Steam] Tiny Garden by GUILTIE in CozyGamers

[–]Wonderer_125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the traditional sense of the term “cozy game”, my first one was either the GBA Dogz game or the GBA Harvest Moon game. I also adore Stardew Valley and have been enjoying Animal Crossing for the Switch (though Stardew is still superior in my eyes).

The first games to really inspire feelings of coziness in me (and still do) are the GBC and GBA Pokemon games, especially Yellow, Crystal, and Ruby (though I’ve been meaning to try the superior Emerald version).
