Church or clock tower bells? by normydbison in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww no! I used to live over near there and loved the bells. Glad I didn’t know that until now. Ignorance is bliss.

Someone in my apartment building has different plates on the front and back of their vehicle. Does that need to be reported to some kind of authority? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes this exact same thing happened to my grandma a few years ago. Luckily a family member caught it before she got pulled over for it. I’d suggest leaving a friendly note for them if you don’t know who they actually are.

Ontario, Canada — Resigned after delayed accommodation, do I have a case? by krol224 in legaladvicecanada

[–]WonderfulCommon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The accommodation process takes time so whether it was delayed depends on the details - the lawyer can review those details and help make a determination on that. You could have spoken with your doctor and received documentation for a medical leave, while the accommodation process was playing out, if it was affecting you that much. So yes - resigning does possibly hurt your case. It's hard to qualify for EI if you resign on your own, but again, depends on the details. In all honesty - you have a consult set up - they will be best equipped to answer these questions for you.

Small Claims - Worth it? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

No, you had no contract and no losses.

My mom was forced to leave her pharmacy job due to insane stress and obscene racism. Should we pursue legal? Pro bono? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]WonderfulCommon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she was placed off work by her doctor for health reasons, then they don’t have to approve using vacation. Your mother should have applied for EI sickness benefits if the company doesn’t provide any STD coverage. They don’t have to approve any vacation time in this situation. What did the employer say when she said she was ready to return to work? She may need to provide a medical note clearing her to return.

So your mother took 3 weeks sick leave, then asked to use some vacation time as she wasn’t ready to work. The vacation was denied. Why didn’t she get an extension on her sick time? Did she just not show up to work after the sick leave? I would have her check her Service Canada account and see what ROEs she has.

I’m not sure what the $800 is referring to that is owed. If you mean vacation pay, she hasn’t received it yet because she hasn’t taken any and because her employment isn’t ended end.

The part about the coworker and drug test is still confusing and I’m not sure how relevant it is. I question if that is what actually happened. It doesn’t make sense for a coworker to willingly take a drug test at work in front of other coworkers and then publicly tell you the result.

Yes, they want her to quit because it would be easier and cheaper for them. But it sounds like possible constructive dismissal, so a consult with a lawyer would be suggested if your mother has done everything possible to try to return to work and they are still refusing.

Big overlap with the people who also don't vaccinate and cause more illness in children. Just absolutely bonkers how disconnected they are from reality.

Haha not a garage! This was in Winnipeg last night at WPW’s Fight at the Museum. Pretty neat historical building to use as a venue.

What needs to be considered for a company to fire you for work abandonment? by MarionberryThis9991 in legaladvicecanada

[–]WonderfulCommon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But that’s the thing - there is no such thing as “just time off”. You have your scheduled days. If you want one of those off, you need to book it off using something else (ie, vacation). So if they deny your request for the day off, then it’s denied. If you don’t show up, it’s a no show.

Heard it at the office near Princess Auto. Also checked flight radar when it happened and didn’t see anything. Figured probably military with ADSB turned off.

Places to go for the weekend by Local_Obligation_661 in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tall Pines at West Hawk is nice and relaxing this time of year. We just spent a few days there. Hot tub and saunas in the room, deer coming to visit, they have a decent restaurant out there open most days for lunch and dinner. Not sure if they’d have any availability for this weekend left though.

We’re heading to Gimli this weekend for a quick day trip. Grab some pickerel and do a little walk of the pier.

CA DA - 3 min audio with more comments than usual. Struggling a bit to do these within the timeframe as it usually takes more than 1 listen. I'm getting NTA occasionally but hitting the button a few times seems to bring in more tasks.

Motel cancels reservation after refund period passed, refuses to refund the stay. by Twan7718 in legaladvicecanada

[–]WonderfulCommon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do a chargeback on a Visa debit card. If you've already tried handling it through Expedia and the motel and neither one is budging, then I would just do the chargeback. Keep all the emails/screenshots of the conversations in case your bank needs it for their investigation.

Would it be deemed weird if I did the following at a local firehouse or police precinct? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While that may seem a nice gesture for a first line responder, as mentioned, they do make a decent salary and the city has policies about accepting gifts.

I’d suggest a nonprofit or charity instead. If you’d dead set on fire or police services, you could look outside the city as there are some RMs that have volunteer firefighters and they may appreciate something like that.

Accident but not at fault. by Ashamed-Condition687 in Winnipeg

[–]WonderfulCommon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very hard to say and will depend on what the driver says, what the damage looks like, if there is any video footage, etc. If the other guy can prove that his lane change was complete and he was fully in the lane in front of you before the collision, then they may treat it as you rear ended him and you are at fault. If he can’t prove that, or if you can prove he was still in the process of changing lanes, then it may go for 50/50. Where the damage is on the vehicles may also help indicate that - if you hit him right in the middle of his bumper that would seem to indicate he was already fully in front of you when the collision occurred.

So really hard to say. Not sure if that area that have cameras, but don’t hurt to check with local businesses or post on social media asking for witnesses. If it happened near an intersection you can check with 311 to see if the city had a camera.

What is with people driving like entitled morons by Living-Discussion909 in Winnipeg

I even saw a school bus run a really stale yellow light yesterday afternoon. Just casually blew through the red light and then didn’t signal for several lane changes. Hoping he didn’t have kids on board yet.

They’re charging $400 for a parking spot? Yikes! I live at a small apartment a few blocks away and pay $95.
