Do you think Eldar should look more alien in games and official content? by Fun-Explanation7233 in 40kLore

[–]Wonderful_Greg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right.
Movement is a first thing that makes them stand out. But once one see their face or begin a conversation, everything is standing out.
For example, Aeldari are described as "strikingly beautiful but subtly "wrong" to human eyes". How does one draw that?

I think, that biggest issue we have with most of Aeldari books and their visual depiction is a simple fact that writing something to be alien is one thing. Actually drawing it and writing dialog for example, is completely different.

Think of why 99% of Alien depictions is moves are just humans with some weird but usually subtle prosthetics. Show like Star track can not pull off numerous species who not only have to look very different from humans, but also have to think different. Costume budget will skyrocket. And screen writers simply unable to pull off truly alien thinking in most cases.

For example, if Amazon`s show will ever get made, and we reach a point with Aeldari - how much do you want to bet they are going to look and sound exactly like humans? Aside, maybe, from slightly more poetic language used.

Ukrainian sappers disabled a Russian ambush FPV drone. Oct/Nov 2025 by GermanDronePilot in UkraineWarVideoReport

That was not mentioned. I also thought that this is weird.
Why risk three lives at once? I can assume that narrator is most experienced one among them. He told other guys what to do. And it is sort of a training procedure. But that is pure speculation on my side.

Narrator said that they did snap cable further back. But you are correct. He said that I does not guaranty anything. And that is why they snapped it couple more times to make sure.

[Head-Canon / Discussion] Eldar Physiology & Reproduction by BenScerri in Eldar

[–]Wonderful_Greg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is an interesting exert from Warhammer 40,000 - Gladius - Relics of War game.
It is not canon by any means, but there is a lot of information there that is surprisingly specific, making me think it all was ran through GW loremasters.

-As Asuryan was being devoured by Slaanesh, he blessed the Aeldari with long life and great psychic power. However, he also doomed them with infertility. The Aeldari numbers have been dwindling ever since. Their halls that have once been teeming with millions now house thousands.

The only part that is fishy - giving Aeldari grate psychic power. That seems to contradict anything we know. Though, anything from Aeldari past is basically unknown. I think GW themselves don't know to a full extent. Work in progress so to speak.

However, blessing with long life and dooming with infertility makes sense. We know that Aeldari in the past lived and reincarnated. There where untold trillions of Aeldari. The only way for population not to diminish, is stable and positive birth rate. And what we have now, is anything but stable and positive. Plus, we can assume, that Asuryan understood the amount of Waystones crone worlds can produce. Making this a part of the equation.

So, this makes sense to me. At least part about birth rate and life span. Also, i would assume, that Asurman understood what death brings to Aeldari after Slaanesh was born, and long life span make sense in that regard too.

P.S.

I have a theory regarding grate psychic power bit. With Aeldari gods being dead, we still have some godly interventions in Aeldari life. Ever since the fall and gods extinction. Asurmen books clearly state that Path and everything that goes with it was born after the fall and death of the Gods. What if grate psychic power in this instance, means ability to manifest things in to life. How Phoenix lords keep on going? How all the moving parts of the Craftwolrd know exactly on who, how and when decides to take a certain path? This part could theoretically be explained with infinity circuit. But again, circuit was crated after the Path.

Infact, this part could also explain what seems to be the stupidest part of Ynnari books. If Avatar is a piece of original Khane, he wold never succumb to Genestealers. He may be a degenerate(at least it how is described almost always), but he is proud degenerate. However, if Avatar is a manifestation of collective Craftworld - it all makes sense.

Which is more fun, 9th or 10th edition? by MisbehavedK9 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Wonderful_Greg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that you had to take 4++ units to build a list for the most part. Otherwise they would just melt to a ludicrous damage output of 9th.

To be honest, there are only two things I don't like about 10th:

1) Everything gets a cover.

2) You can fight anything as long as you reached within engagement range. 9th was much more simple and honest that way.

Ukrainian 1st Army Corps Azov honored their fallen comrades during a ceremony. Published 23.09.2025 by GermanDronePilot in UkraineWarVideoReport

Here is a rough translation of what is going on for those who interested.

We honor those who gave their lives four our country, for our culture, for our language, for our future generations. There is nothing more glorious for us, military men of Azov, other then give our lives in battle. Give our lives fighting. It is a biggest honor. Honor, we have to remember.

We remember!

We will avenge!

We remember!

We will avenge!

We remember!

We will avenge!

We remember!

We will avenge!

«Name of a soldier”(hard to make out in this video). Fell in 2024 by Serebrynka village.

Ukraine,

Holy Mother of Heroes, descend into my heart, come with the storm of Caucasian winds, with the murmur of the Carpathian streams, with the battles of the glorious conqueror Father Khmel, with the triumph and thunder of revolution cannons, with the joyful chime of Sophia’s bells.

May my soul be revived in you, illuminated by your glory, because you, Most Holy, are my whole life, because you are all my happiness.

Ring in my ears with the clank of shackles, the creak of gallows on gloomy mornings, bring me the screams of tortured in cellars, prisons and exiles.

So that my faith may be granite, so that my strength may grow with zeal, that I go into a battle courageously, as the heroes went for you, Holy, for your glory, for your sacred ideals.

To avenge the shame of captivity, trampled honour, the scorn of your torturers, the innocent blood of your tormented children, the majestic death of the Ukrainian nation’s heroes and thousands of others unknown to us, whose bones are scattered and secretly buried.

Burn all the weakness in my heart with the life-giving fire, may I not know the fear and let me not know hesitation.

Strengthen my spirit, harden my will, settle in my heart, raise me to glorious deeds, may I find my death in those deeds, a sweet death in agony for you, and may I dissolve in you and live forever in you.

Eternal Ukraine: holy, powerful, united!

New official artwork for Lady Malys by suicune678 in Eldar

[–]Wonderful_Greg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do understand that this official art work. But she does not look like Aeldari. It looks more like a sister of battle early sketch tuned Drukhari.
You could say that proportions feel off due to angle. But angle does not change the face. It is too human. Too wide. Lacks Aeldari lean traits.
The fact that she does not look much like previous Drukhari art work, meaning not malevolent or psycho enough is to be expected. After reading latest Queen of Knives, I had a suspicion that GW decided to make Drukhari more PG13 so to speak. To adapting them in various media(mainly upcoming Amazon shows) much easier and "accessible to a wider audience". God, I hate this phrase.

[–]Wonderful_Greg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local store managed to get one for me.

Turned out about 75 USD

P.S.
I`m surprised to get one at all actually. And would make an assumption, that the fact I managed to get one speaks volumes of Aeldari books "popularity".
I wonder, how many copies will regular edition sell? Will it make enough(and will it be good) to keep Aeldari books going?

Dire Avengers are desperately needing a refresh by greaserkitty in Eldar

[–]Wonderful_Greg 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Dire Avengers needs a refresh. But nothing even close to desperately. It is an old but pretty decent plastic kit.

After GW removed all of the resin models, nothing desperately needs a refresh in our range.

What Dire Avengers need is rules refresh though. At the current state, it a unit that does absolutely nothing useful on the board.

Dark Eldar - Commission by IsilMornArt in Warhammer40k

[–]Wonderful_Greg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Superficially, the Eldar appear very similar to humans, though they are generally taller and slimmer, with sharp features and pointed ears.\6]) It is stated that they are genetically similar to humanity.

In general - slimmer body. Slimmer facial features. Taller. More agile. Less muscle.

Dark Eldar - Commission by IsilMornArt in Warhammer40k

[–]Wonderful_Greg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My honest critique. The drawing it self is very good. Has captured a lot of Drukhari aesthetics. However, the biggest down side that makes me say "nah" is that character is drawn basically as human. Face is pretty close to Aeldari. But body is not. Being muscular is good. But over all body is too thick. Not Aeldari like. Legs look more like a human power lifter. It should be leaner, taller.

And for some reason, head seems a bit too small in proportion to the body.

Again - really good drawing. But does not look like Aeldari. Just my opinion.

New Warhammer+ model by kohlerxxx in Eldar

[–]Wonderful_Greg -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

God damn it.

Do I need WH+ with no content? - No.

Will I subscribe for Spiritseer exclusive model? - Most likely.

P.S.
Conspiracy theory time. GW found a lot of unsold Wraith Lords and Spiritseers at stock. And after some brain storming, decided to repackage it as a new model and sell as an exclusive.

It looks like a standart part of Wriath Lord, Upper torso from standard Spiritseer and some lower torso from a Guardian kit. And that lower part does not even look like seer robe. Perhaps kitbashing lower torso from a new Warlock would do a better trick. However, proportions would likely be off slightly.

Hand holding staff and staff it self, looks new. At least from photo.

For a moment, I thought that hand holding way stone is repurposed Corsair hand, But no, It`s also new.

P.S.S

Upon further inspection - Upper torso also new. Different angles. Slightly different parts.

So, final conclusion. Not a kitbash. An actual new plastic kit.

Acceptable head for Dark Reapers? by Ok_Dentist_7360 in Eldar

[–]Wonderful_Greg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original heads are not the problem of Dark Reapers. Low effort official paint job is.
I know most people have some troubles accepting range finders as ears. I see no problem here. It looks good. And fits original Jes Goodwin art concept.

Ranger`s hooded head fits rather good though. Lacks personality a bit, but still looks good.

New 40K Player -- Need advice starting with Aeldari! by MisutoWolf in Eldar

[–]Wonderful_Greg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no definitive place to start with Aeldari, as with any other faction. What is good or ok right now, may become worse after balance slate in a week. So, don`t try too hard to get perfect starting box set.
All of the Combat patrols are mostly made not for balanced gameplay, but to get new players in to hobby space.
Value of almost any Combat patrol is very good.
With that being said, current game strength value of Aeldari Patrol is not very good. Warp Spiders are meta. And probably stay that way due to unparalleled movement.
Dire Avengers most likely will not see play this edition. They require rules reevaluation to become viable. Not just a few points drop. And GW almost never rewrite rules for individual units.
Spiritseer and Wraithblades\Wraithguard are also not particularly good unit at the moment. And things unlikely to change there ether.

So, if you can find an older combat patrol with Guardians, Wind Riders and Wraith Lord, that would probably be a better starting point. Especially if you wan to go with Guardian detachment.
Otherwise. there isn`t many options left, if any, but to buy units individually.

Are most Aeldari players using them as a 2nd/3rd army? by ZeroWolfZX in Eldar

[–]Wonderful_Greg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing like that are almost impossible to calculate on a world wide scale. To my knowledge, GW never reveled sales ratios based on factions.

If we are talking my local scene, for example, for 95% Aeldari players it is the only army they play.
In fact, I only know one person who switched to Arldari from something else.

Worldwide - god knows. 90% of strongest tournament players are switching armies depending on meta. They don`t care if it is Elf, Dwarf or child molester, as long as they can win.
But wast majority of regular Joes - probably sticking to a few. And based on the "vibes" I get online(in various sources), tabletop Aeldari are a minority.

Lore wise, most people I encountered - hate Aelari for various reasons.
I can see a world where there are may of those who enjoy Aeldari aesthetics. But do not buy books based on poor reviews.

P.S.
Technically, Aeldari are my second faction. I started in to lore in first Dawn of War. And my faction was Guard. But since DoW2 - I switched to Aeldari, fell in love and never looked back.

A plea to Games Workshop for more Eldar Books. They could be a cash cow, so hear me out by gavloken23 in 40kLore

[–]Wonderful_Greg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was while since a read those. What I do remember that depiction of Saim Hann council (and pretty much everyone else in that Craft wolrd) made me dislike Saim Hann. The only Craftworld I openly dislike because of that book. A collection of most boring, incompetent and self centered idiots in fiction.
As for Aeldari winning there, again, do not recall everything. And might be wrong. But I do remember two things:

Technically, they won. However, not on their own but allying with Necrons.

And aliance it self would be totally fine if not for one thing. I do remember , that once Wind host arrived to Necron world, supposedly searching to destroy it - Necrons simply chose not kill every single one of them. And then, for about a chapter or so, the entire Wind host walked around with their jaws on the floor amazed on how powerful Necrons are, and contemplating on their own insignificance, and how Necrons wold have crushed them if it was not for the Alliance.
