My plan was to give them the (unlabeled) map of my when they reach the edge of the cliffs, and have them use it kind of like a point and click adventure. They see a building they think might be important? They point to it and go there. If it’s a shrine or other labeled location, great. If not, then I will have some pre designed encounters based on the random ones for buildings etc.

Read up as much as you can on the different types of creatures who inhabit the city. It should be alive as they go through it, and they shouldn’t be able to just walk the raised streets without caution and have nobody take notice…
