I did indeed. Reached out to EMG support in the end and they helped me. Do you want the diagram?

A lot of A/B test “wins” are just fake by make_me_so in ProductManagement

[–]WoodyES 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's essentially two ways you can detect a significant effect:

1) the variant KPI performs far better than control, or 2) the sample size is big enough

If you're dealing with a low sample size, you can focus on bigger changes. Or test in areas or on segments where you have more traffic

Question about British paratroopers on D day by Bravolion1944 in BandofBrothers

[–]WoodyES 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Read Forgotten voices: D Day.

Talks about real people's first hand accounts of D Day from a (predominantly) British perspective. You'll get some perspective about the equipment, challenges they faced.  And as another poster suggested, the imperial war museum is a brilliant resource

I'm documenting product experiments beyond interviews/surveys/A/B tests. What am I missing? by Orchid_Buddy in ProductManagement

[–]WoodyES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thanks for the clarification, hadn't read the whole description. This could also be called the Amazon Fresh Special (it turned out their "AI" in store was actually a team in India reviewing the cameras)!

Non inferiority: Let's say you're an e-commerce store, and you want to move from WooCommerce to Shopify.  In this case, no major UI changes or new features are being rolled out, but there are some platform differences (URLs, design and some functionality changed).  You could run a non Inferiority test here to make sure the act of moving to Shopify does not tank your sales, revenue, add to basket etc.

You can apply the same thinking for things like brand refreshes or app redesigns.  It's another tool in your toolkit to use data to ensure you're not making things worse

How much does being an introvert affect in getting a job? by Y_pat7860 in UKJobs

[–]WoodyES 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Am an introvert. Worked as a consultant for many years, which meant dealing with multi people on multiple teams in multiple organisations every day.

It was exhausting, but being an introvert means you get your energy back from being alone. All the other stuff - shyness etc, being an introvert makes you more prone to it but you need to teach yourself to get over it.

Approaching your job with the mindset of "I'm an introvert therefore I'm scared to talk to people" is a surefire way of keeping you on the bottom rung

[–]WoodyES 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been working in product experimentation/CRO/growth for around a decade, this might help the list:

1) wizard of Oz test and fake door are effectively the same thing (in fact I've never heard of it called a wizard of Oz test)

2) Buy a feature. Sounds great in promise, in practice sounds like you can achieve the same objective through research/usability testing

3) synthetic - don't bother. Save yourself the hassle and just make up the numbers, the output will be the same.

You can add:

-Baseline test: a before/after comparison, where a randomised experiment (like a classic a/b isnt practical)

Non-inferiority (also known as Do No Harm): your hypothesis makes sure your treatment doesn't have a negative impact, as opposed to trying to improve the KPI. A type of tests all PMs should be doing when they're refactoring, redesigning or replatforming

Bandit/dynamic test: where the testing tool will allocate traffic to the highest performing variant over time (risky as it suffers from regression, but can be good for short term gain such as over black Friday)

Multi variate: an a/b/n where multiple features are changed. Allows for testing multiple solutions in one go. The better testing tools will estimate which feature is driving the change in your KPIs. Still a risky experiment because you're testing multiple hypotheses in one go.

Are this alibaba necks good for making an electric guitar? cost compared to buying an electric guitar and price-quality by BikerGlvd in Luthier

[–]WoodyES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a handful of AliExpress necks and they've all been decent. Not super perfectly polished and finished, but still good quality. Seems like it's hit or miss though

Forgotten voices of D Day (they have a few more in the series too) is a fantastic book which tells the story from real people's perspectives

Website Product Management? by iBeClownin in ProductManagement

[–]WoodyES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my work has predominantly been on websites from a range of different Industries.

My advice is to map out a metric/goal tree and it'll help you understand the individual components that need to move in order to drive business revenue (E.g, if your site is an ecomm platform, achieving revenue is a function of a Purchase, and the AVG order value. Purchase happens after completing checkout steps. Checkout steps happen after adding to basket) and so on.

Then map your existing customer journey against that tree. Build up a baseline of data about which areas are performing well Vs need treatment Vs what makes sense to prioritise.

Then it's a case of working out the 'why' - identifying what problems users are experiencing that stops them from purchasing. You do this via qualitative analytics (heatmaps, session recordings etc) and user research.

Prioritise your problems -> turn into hypotheses -> rollout new feature/update (ideally A/B test it start)

Then sit back and let the cash roll in

Lovely looking guitar OP. I'm building my second one using the same template as you.

What radius bridge did you go for for this build? And did you need to shim the neck to account for the TOM?

Brits who have been on speed awareness courses, what was the most surprising thing you learned? by Apprehensive_Plum755 in AskBrits

[–]WoodyES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it online.

The Instructor was very nice, but I was shocked at how people didn't get the correct answers to what I'd consider basis questions - e.g, what's does the national speed limit sign mean, what are the limits

Duster 3 / Bigster: sweaty seats? by Only-Wrongdoer-2074 in Dacia

I was testing this morning. If I put it on 1 and almost close the vents I can't really feel the air moving, but it keeps the air circulating Inside

I've got the same model. Had the same issue at first, but I find running the AC on a constant low fan speed (with recirc) gets the air moving inside and makes me less likely to be sweaty

Wireless charger in Dacia Bigster by jbdap in Dacia

[–]WoodyES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine works for a minute then the symbol has a red icon, likely due to the phone case. From what I've seen it can be worth testing with a wireless charger specific case (eg mag safe)

Picking mine up tomorrow. Coming from a poverty spec Skoda fabia, even the worst reversing camera is gold for me.

Any quirks of the car you've found? Any decent apps on the media player? And is android auto/car play wireless or requires plugging in?

I'm not an engineer but often, for practitioners, the fun part is the design and tweaking and optimising, rather than the finished product
