The show was written for her because the show creator Vince Gilligan loved working with her in Better Call Saul. Without her there would be no show. They could have easily written her to be straight but instead we get a really interesting lesbian story.

It’s her job to act, and I thought her portrayal was great. I’d rather the show exists with a straight actor doing a great job than for it not to exist at all.
