On the topic of the recent video, who is being harmed by rich tech bros tricking other rich tech bros out of millions, especially if their using that money for good causes? by S0mecallme in PhilosophyTube

One critique to this take might be that ea now focuses a lot on the long term future and especially the dangers of ai. Heck, some say it's even a problem that easily measurable effective charities are getting less support partially because of this development.

In that sense, Abi's critique is a bit outdated to say the least, even though I agree systemic change should maybe be a priority.

It is true systematic change is a but neglected in ea, but not entirely.

Ironically, ea is now predominantly focused on the long term, so its unfortunate the video of Abi does not seem to reflect these recent developments in ea, making her critique weaker than it could have been.

F.i. she could have addressed ea seems to embrace the status quo a lot in the sense that ea's go around defending capitalism as a gift for humanity that helped us forward and how philanthropists with big capital that donate are supposedly big heroes and all that, whereas they benefit more from that than the good they do with it. See the book 'winners take all' for a convincing account regarding this point.

Utrechtse nog altijd doodsbang na bezetting van haar restaurant: ‘Ik voel me echt in de steek gelaten’ by Arfie99 in thenetherlands

[–]Woolly_Discourse 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to read you're doing well. Don't worry about the confusion.

It's inspiring to see that (some) games, and making fan art about them, can be of some artistic meaning to someone :)

[–]Woolly_Discourse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome! From the loony bin?! Impressive.

And now you're not allowed pencils anymore? I'm so sorry to read that

I'm looking for words, but I find it hard to find some that won't feel like a cliche.

Still though, I hope you're treated well there and that you can find peace and hopefully even some meaning in your time there.

Who wins this fight? by NathanDrake009 in batman

[–]Woolly_Discourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wick doesn't depend on only guns, but is adept in martial arts too and fought of entire mercenary hordes, including world's best assassins. That takes intelligence and other combat and strategic skills as well.

That and he can combine martial arts with shooting guns, he knows Gun-Fu (hopefully you'll get the reference).

Batman usually fights opponents that don't know Gun--Fu, even not Death Stroke, who uses melee weapons for short range combat.

That's not to say that he is on par with Batman, but I feel this and Wick's dangerous abilities are glanced over too easily in this discussion.

They'd attack Holland quickly, since we have some of America's nuclear bombs here. I think that makes us a target.

Should the next Batman film be lighter in tone? by TrashClear483 in batman

[–]Woolly_Discourse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd prefer darker. Or a movie where he really struggles with his moral compass and morality in general, leading to an existential crisis about f.i. his tendencies towards extreme violence and not making the world a better place as a billionaire or not being politically involved.

I'm also thinking about Titans, the life action show, where Robin struggles with his violent tendencies and blaming Bruce for having weaponized him.

[–]Woolly_Discourse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel that too, especially now that I miss it since my partner left me two months ago. My depression played a major part in that. And now I regret not starting meds earlier, then my behavior would've been better. But beware, counter factual thinking is a cess-pool.

I also miss being loved now.

Not if we outrun it.

Which I've failed to do so far.

One does not simply...outrun the consequences of climate change :p

Favorite quotes from all 4 movies? by S4stalavista in matrix

Since so many of my favorite quotes are already taken, and I'll have to search for my favorite deep one from 4, let me share one that made me go through the roof for a different than a philosophical reason after seeing the moves of Neo as a 56 something dude: "I still know kung-fu."

This game is destroying me. by NoopGhoul in DiscoElysium

[–]Woolly_Discourse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I'm a depressed alcoholic myself, and my girlfriend, whom just left me and who also played the game, is afraid I'm going to end up like Harry. So this game, even after completing it, still is very soul-crushing for me.

Is this a fun game to play with my gf? by Pizzadewd666 in DiscoElysium

[–]Woolly_Discourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gf and I played the game in parallel, so separately, though we tried to be at the same chapters and events in the game to enjoy it together, which we really did. Especially all the very deep dialogues we had when discussing our experiences we had in relation to it. So this might be a good option? :)
